  1. The ringlight that they had at the Tiffen get together a few weeks ago was pretty cool. I can't remember the name of it right now, but someone here is bound to know. It had dimmable LED's and was very bright at full power. Hopefully someone will chime in with the name and where you can rent one. I'm sure Kyle Young will know, so you could just give Tiffen a call to find out for sure.
  2. That is quite an odd statement. If you didn't have the "luxury of spare time" to do something that you were being paid for, then why did you accept the money to begin with? And better yet, why didn't you give the money back when you decided not to do the job? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is ass-backwards thinking. It's amazing that you actually tried to use that as an excuse.
  3. Can't you tell when I'm trying to make your truck look even more badass?! Fine, it was only head high after I fell down from all the drinking. Are you happy now?
  4. Ron, What was the web address that Allen was gonna put the webcam up on? I'd like to check it out.
  5. If there were sound on that picture you'd hear me saying, "Uh, I think we're stuck Ron", right before Ron gives it a little gas and keeps on moving right up the other side. That picture doesn't do that trench justice. I got out of the truck and stood at the bottom and it was head high! I couldn't believe Ron had the balls to even attempt to drive over that. What a badass truck! Bye the way, the only reason I was drinking so much was to try to take some weight out of the truck. I was just being helpful!
  6. I don't understand your question. If you want one email me or find me at cinegear or Dalts <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll chat with you later today.
  7. Eric, Is this something you are making on your own or are you working with a company to develop these?
  8. Me too. The only problem is the voices in my head start to slur their words and I can't understand them.
  9. Hmm, I think the Tiffen meeting is at Tiffen tonight, not Dalt's. I'd hate to have to see you drink alone Ron.
  10. Here's a couple of pics of me and the GII from a movie last year. What a beast. The panaflasher and Z series lenses didn't help either!
  11. Sounds like fun. I've been wanting to tag along with you guys for a while. Unfortunately, my truck is only two wheel drive. Do you have an extra seat for me Ron? Are you guys planning on spending the night?
  12. Well, I thought I'd made it pretty clear in my previous post that you weren't going to get very good results your first time out. It'll probably be worse than your handheld work. By the way, hauling 500lbs of camera gear is different than flying a steadicam. It takes different muscles than you're used to using. It doesn't matter how strong you are....that's a myth. If you decide to go ahead and use a steadicam be aware that your client may be very unhappy with the results if you are unprepared. You're better off doing a workshop first then you would be just winging it.
  13. You'll most likely be unhappy with your results in this situation. Your horizon will probably be way out of wack and your stamina is probably not where it needs to be to wear the rig for long periods of time. Even the lightest rigs will wear you out quickly if you're not used to them. My advice would be to try to hire an operator for the job or don't use steadicam. Buying a rig for one job certainly is a waste of money.
  14. Just call the manufacturers. I'm sure they'll tell you.
  15. Jon and I were talking about trying to bring a watermelon to the range. I don't know if he ever found out whether that would be allowed or not, but I think it would be a little more explosive than a bowling pin. I'm sure he'd have no problem blasting a bowling pin though. I'll post if we end up shooting the watermelon.
  16. Thanks Jim. Although it looks like I'm not going now.
  17. I've been talking to people about the steadicam party at NAB and some people are saying that the party is on Mon. the 18th, but the invitation I recieved says Tues. the 19th. I'm looking for some confirmation of when the party actually is so that we're all clear and no one misses the party due to bad info. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. I'm looking for a complete Preston system. If you have one to sell or an almost complete system please call or email me. Thanks, Brad Grimmett 310-562-5652 bradgrimmett@sbcglobal.net
  19. Well, in my experience the US is not 10 and 10. Maybe 10 hours turnaround (except on those tortuous jobs), but never a 10 hour workday. I just finished a feature and we did an average of 14 hours a day, 6 days a week for 7 weeks straight (not counting travel time), so 10 hours would have been a dream. We did have at least 10 hours turnaround, which is OK, although 12 would be much better. France has recently been considering a longer work week (their current standard is 35 hours per week), they want to make 40 hours the standard and it's caused an uproar among workers. If we could only get it down to about 50 I'd be happy. 80 hours a week is just no fun.
  20. Thanks for the pic. It seems that it's basically a Jimmy Jib with a different name.
  21. I've never heard of, or seen, the scanner crane. Do you guys know of a link on the net with pictures of it? What kind of crane is it? Thanks.
  22. new handle Has anyone used one of these handles yet? It looks like a good option for low mode for those non-Panavision/Clairmont 900's. This company also makes similar handles for the Varicam and other video cameras. All of the handles sell for $1100-$1200. I'm interested in hearing any feedback from anyone who's used one. Also, does anyone know if any rental houses in LA have these? Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the info guys. Very helpful. And thanks to David Grove for the email he sent regarding his Archos.
