  1. Couple of things:

There are not many arms where you don't see your steps at all. The bad news is that the Provid ain't one of them.
Do the toe test: Let go off the sled - go on your tippy toes. If your sled and camera rises with you

    - well - you know what's up.
However that does not mean you can't train with it - it just won't be perfect.
Very few people (without a trust fund) buy a $15-20k Tiffen or Pro arm as their first rig.

Generally arms work best when they are almost maxed out on their capacity. If your camera is very light for your arm and

the springs are quite 'stiff' just add a weight plate. Technically heavy objects have more inertia and should therefore have less 'wiggle and bounce' to them.

Hope this helps and happy flying :-)

  2. So did you solve your issue ?

Every single stabilized 'gimbal on a stick' - wave, trinity you name it - has a bit of that 'side-to-side' weaving.

Basically the roll axis stabilization keeps your horizon straight. but the camera still moves a bit side-to-side

as the sled goes off balance.

  3. For working in live TV, I have a 7 inch and 10 inch IPS monitor that I can put on the camera just above the lens.Your prompter op will probably come with only the equipment to send you a CVBS signal with the prompter lines OR send an SD-SDI signal.

I did a job with Kristen Bell a few months ago, and was told about wearing a prompter in advance, and would be a long walk and talk. I used a wireless HD transmitter/receiver (IDX CW-3) and wore the RX while handing the TX to the prompter op. On my rig, I also wore a Decimator 2 to convert the SD-SDI signal to CVBS, and sent that signal into my prompter. Boom, wireless teleprompter. I had to do a similar thing a few years ago for a special show for FOX.

Prompter ops generally don't have the equipment to send HD-SDI signals, just SD-SDI and CVBS. The prompter folks I had on the FOX gig were very nice, but not very technically knowledgeable about the signal coming from their system, and insisted they were sending an HD signal. After a couple frustrations, we got it working, but I basically had to get it running without their assistance, and you'll probably be in the same position.

If you're trying to make it wireless, you'll either need a standard def transmitter for CVBS signals (CanaTrans, Modulus, Boxx Meridian) or a digital transmitter that handles HD or SD over SDI (Teradek, IDX Camwaves, Boxx Meridian, etc). If you don't have a wireless system to rent to your production, they can grab one from the rental house specifically for prompter signal.

thanks. I'll make sure to throw a Decimator into my case.

  4. Buy a std. Def. TX/RX from a drone company. I use them with excellent results. You will have to put power connector on the cable.

    Ranger Video $185

thanks. however I am not going to plan on buying anything. my vision would be to have a prompter guy who rolls in with everything he/she needs.

    (a man can always dream)

  5. I am supposed to do a 15-20 second 'walk and talk' with a prompter.

    location is some hallways.

I haven't done much prompter on the steadicam. production just told me their prompter guy

wants me to be tethered in. which I despise. I feel in the year 2017 there should be no more cables to my sled.

Anybody got some recommendation for Teleprompter operators in the NY / CT area that have experience with steadicam and could jump on that ?

Leads / contacts would be much appreciated.

  6. This thing pretty much works like a Cinetape. You put it onto your camera - it tells you the distance.

Certainly not as feature-rich as a Cinetape but it does the job. And it does have an LCD readout on both sides.

Had it for a while. Was always accurate. Never let me down.
Some minor wear on the barrel. Perfect working condition.
Comes with a D-tap power cable.

Selling because I just bought a $7k Cfinder III that ties into my WCU-4.

    PRICE: $475

  8. For built-in level I think Transvideo is pretty much the only choice right now (aka a level that does something for you.

the 'level' on the DP7 is a cruel joke...)

For outside visibility try the Boland. It has a matte screen surface vs. the shiny glass that everybody

else is using. I like that because it reduces glare a lot.

  9. 5” OLED Monitor / Recorder with Touch Screen and Arri Bus interface

  10. I used to own an Ultra2 vest and got an Exovest instead. It fits me like a glove has improved my operating and

my fatigue and recovering times have improved.

I LOVE how easy it is to take on and off.

Having said that: Some very capable operators I know did not fall in love with the Exovest as I do. A lot of it seems to boil down to personal preference and body type.
