  1. Hi everyone, I have left the steadicam forum few years ago when the mod was sold out so sorry for not replying some of you who are interested in this mod. I have left 4 set worth of parts as spare for myself. But now I'm not operating Steadicam anymore. So I decided to sell them at USD200 each set in case anyone still interested in it. And good news is that after few years of usage, this mod still working perfectly and reliably. Please send me a message if you are interested in buying. Thanks. 1.)For complete set with Monitor Yoke+ Simple Monitor Mount= USD200 Include shipping. 2. Posted 04 October 2015 - 08:11 PM Hi, About one year ago I planned to design a custom mount which my Steadicam Scout works better. I need to thanks for the people who were interested in my project. And need to say sorry because I didn't take the time to complete it until recently. For your reference, here is the link to my post about my upgrade idea: http://www.steadicam...605#entry106804 Finally I took the time to completed the upgrade mod. I tested it on my Steadicam Scout and used it for around 7-8 times and it worked flawlessly. The Steadicam Scout become the ultimate bang of the buck Steadicam Rig now with this upgrade mod especially when bhphotovideo are selling it for USD3999 new recently. I fly my Sony F5 with this rig without any problem. USD3999 for a true Steadicam Rig which flies 18lbs cameras are really a good deal. http://www.bhphotovi...st_hd_mntr.html I've been asked whether it is possible to mount monitors without screw threads on the both sides of monitor(e.g.SmallHD monitors). I've solved the problem by designing new parts but you cannot use the monitor yokes anymore. I've also been asked whether it is possible to use the upgrade mount for the Steadicam Flyer or the Steadicam Pilot. Technically it is possible because Flyer and Pilot probably shared the same parts for the Carbon Fiber pole. But I don't have them on my hand so you need to confirm that the lower part of the pole are EXACTLY 23.9mm in diameter. Here is the list of what I have achieved in my upgrade mod: 1.)A new monitor bracket allows for a more flexible monitor positioning and independent of the battery position like the Zephyr. Not only that you can adjust the height of the monitor too. Also it is now possible to adjust the moment of inertia of the rig. It is now easier to achieve dynamic balance. 2.)Beside the monitor yoke. I've designed a new part, which is a simple monitor mount, for those who are using monitor with only screw thread at the bottom of the monitor. 3.)I've also made modification for the Scout/Flyer vest. I removed the plastic fastex buckle and replaced it with the higher end Steadicam Ratcheting buckle for the chest. Now you can easily adjust the tension and tighten it like the higher end vests. I've tested the upgrade mods myself for some times and it worked flawlessly. I made 10 sets of these modifications and like what I have said. I'm not looking to earn money out of it. It is much cheaper to produce 10 sets and share the cost together than produce 1 set only . I'm just looking for people to share the cost for machining these parts. So basically you are only paying for the material and machining cost only. It is now completed, tested and ready to ship. 1.)For complete set with Monitor Yoke+ Simple Monitor Mount= USD250 Include shipping. This set includes: -15mm rods to Steadicam pole 23.9mm clamp -Adjustable monitor yoke assembly -Customized 1/4-20 Screw thread adapter for Marshall/Steadicam 7" monitor x 2 -Simple Monitor Mount -1 pair of Carbon Fiber rods 15mm x 200mm -1 x Carbon Fiber rod for monitor yoke assembly -15mm x 50mm Aluminium rods for simple monitor mount -Racheting lock lever x 5 -All other screws necessary. 2.)For Monitor Yoke only set=USD230 Include shipping. This set includes: -15mm rods to Steadicam pole 23.9mm clamp -Adjustable monitor yoke assembly -Customized 1/4-20 Screw thread adapter for Marshall/Steadicam 7" monitor x 2 -1 pair of Carbon Fiber rods 15mm x 200mm -1 x Carbon Fiber rod for monitor yoke assembly -Racheting lock lever x 5 -All other screws necessary. 3.)For Simple monitor mount only set=USD200 Include shipping. This set includes: -15mm rods to Steadicam pole 23.9mm clamp -1 pair of Carbon Fiber rods 15mm x 200mm -Simple Monitor Mount -15mm x 50mm Aluminium rods for simple monitor mount -Racheting lock lever x 5 -All other screws necessary. 4.)For Steadicam Scout/Flyer vest Ratcheting buckle modification=USD120 Include shipping. This set includes: -Original Steadicam Ratcheting buckle x 2 -Customized buckle receptor housing x 2 -Buckle to vest adapter plate x 2 -Nylon velcro strap(Pre-assembled with housing and receptor) x 2 *This modification require the removal of original fastex plastic buckle(Easy task) and cut off the original strap(It sucks anyway) which is not reversible.* Payment will be made through Paypal. 4. The scout post was flatted on the sides too and it clamped firmly without problem. :) Just that the diameter of the post have to be the same. If you have a caliper. You can measure it. My post is exactly 23.9mm( The round part not the flat part).
  5. Hi, I received the quote from the Machine Shop. The total cost for each set will be USD200 include shipping. The modification works on Steadicam Pilot and Scout. Possibly Flyer LE. And Zephyr(Althought there's no point to use it on Zephyr) This upgrade allow the Pilot and Scout to: -Independent adjustment of monitor position and battery position. -Adjustment of panning inertia. -Easier to achieve dynamic balance. -Adjusting monitor angle will have minimal effects on rig balance. -Easier to set up monitor angle for Low Mode operation. Each set includes: 1.)Aluminium alloy CNC Post clamp bracket. 2.)Adjustable Monitor yoke(Aluminium Alloy) with 15mm x 200mm Carbon Fiber Rod. (1/4-20 threads on the side of the monitor REQUIRED. e.g. Steadicam 7" HD Monitor, Marshall 7" HD Monitor, TVLogic monitors, SmallHD DP6/DP7) 3.)A pair of 15mm x 300mm Carbon fiber Rods. 4.)2 x Thread mount adapter for Marshall/Steadicam 7" HD Monitor. Please send me a PM if you are interested. If enough people show interested I will contact the machine shop. Once they are ready I will test it and post pictures and results again. Then payment can be made through paypal and I will ship them out. The cost for building 10 sets of them costs around USD $2000. So I'm basically just looking for people to share the cost price together. Consider it a crowd funding project. I've always want to try to make my own professional accessories. For your reference, The steadicam monitor cable costs USD$300 each hahaha. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/875135-REG/steadicam_807_7510_02_monitor_cable_for_7.html
  6. Here comes a "prototype" of the adjustable monitor yoke. It is possible to adjust the yoke to accommodate different monitors as long as there are 1/4-20 threads on the sides like the Marshall and TVLogic. Randy I believe the smallhd ac7 doesn't have mounting threads on the sides of the monitor. So I believe the most simple way is to mount it using some 15mm bracket and a strong ball head like in my previous picture. I'm not sure about the post size of the Flyer LE. But my Scout HD lower section post is 23.9mm diameter. You can try to measure your post to see if it is the same. After I finish the CAD drawing I will send it to the CNC Machine guy for a quote. Then if enough people show interested I will start building them.
  7. Herman: I was thinking to design the yoke only for Marshall monitor because the Pilot HD and Scout HD all use Marshall HD Monitor. But I just came up an idea for adjustable yoke. I will try to draw it in CAD software to illustrate the design. Andrew: The diameter of the post(lower section) of my Scout HD is 23.9mm and I believe they are using the same carbon fiber post for Pilot, Scout and Zephyr. Do you have a caliper to measure the post to see if all posts are the same?
  8. Hi, I recently just made a custom mount for my Steadicam Scout rig to make it looks more like a professional rig. I designed a simple bracket and I found a CNC machine shop to mill the parts for me. But they usually build parts in a reasonable quantity. So I built 10 of them. The bracket for to clamp a pair of 15mm rods on the Steadicam pole is finished and worked flawlessly. I'm planning to design a monitor yoke too. But it is not quite economical to build 10 sets of them while I only need one. The benefit of this modifcation is that the monitor position are now more flexible and independent of the battery position like the Zephyr. Not only that you can adjust the height of the monitor too. Also it is now possible to adjust the moment of inertia of the rig. So I'm looking for people with a Pilot rig or Scout rig to see if anyone would be interested in this modification. I'm not looking to earn any money I just want some people to share the production cost :D Each set should include: 1.)15mm bracket pole clamp 2.)Adjustable monitor yoke for Marshall/Steadicam 7" HD Monitor. 3.)A pair of 15mm rods And I believe the cost for each set + Shipping should be under USD$150. Please tell me if any of the Pilot and Scout owners are interested in this. If enough people are interested then I will design the monitor yoke and build it. There will be around 8 sets available because I will be building 10 sets and I will keep one set for spare. The picture above showing the modification. I don't have a monitor yoke yet so I used some 15mm bracket and a ball head to mount the monitor. I didn't want to take the picture in the toilet. But it is the only place here with a bright background lol.
  9. Yes. A "click" is a more appropriate description. I believe it is coming from the bearing of the gimbal arm. But I cannot confirm it. If I hold the whole sled and tilt up 90 degree and tilt down 90 degree. There's no click. Suggesting there's no loose part on the sled. When I put the rig on the dock balancing "stud" and tilt up 90 degree and drop. There's a "click" when it drop pass verticle position. But all the bearing are silky smooth and there are absolution no friction. So I don't know where the click come from and I can't solve the problem. Although I believe the minor "click" didn't affect the image at all. I try to tilt the rig and shoot at 200fps slow motion. Still can't see any effects on the image from that "click" But still I feel bad and want to solve it because obviously there supposed to be no click at all.
  10. Hi everyone, I bought a used Scout last month and start practicing the steadicam. However I noticed that when I'm doing drop time test. Like tilting it up to 90 degree and drop it down. When the sled go pass 0 degree(complete verticle) I can fee lt "vibrate". I'm not sure where does this come from. It feels like it is from the gimbal grip rather than the sled post or stage. I checked everything is tight and no loose part. I'm not sure if it will affect the image. Have anyone experience similar problem? Should I return it to the seller? Thanks, Ming.
  11. Hi everyone. I'm planning to buy a Steadicam system for use with my Sony F5 camera. I was considering the Scout. Since it has decent payload of around 8KG and BH is selling the HD version for USD$5500. The 7" HD SDI is really nice bonus. But it seems not very popular on this forum. People usually go for Pilot and then Zephyr. Zephyr seems like a really nice system. The 11KG payload is nice and the vest looks much better. And the tool-less gimbal adjustment is really convenient. But it is almost double the price of Scout. BH is selling it for USD9xxx. I just weighted the F5. The body+lens+baseplate+mattebox+focus motor+receiver should be around 6-7KG. And I don't think I will be flying with Arri Alexa or any other camera much heavier than the F5 or Epic. Do you think the Zephyr worth USD4000 more than the scout? Or I will be happy with the Scout? Thanks, Ming.
