  1. Marty here, Loosen the two button head socket screws located on the stage top. I believe it is a 1/8 hex, loosen these screws and re-torque them gradually while checking the cross shaft to see if it gets tight. If this does'nt do it there is two set screws located in the dovetail which these button head are screwed in to. Carefully back these of 1/16 of a turn and tighten button heads making sure there is no play in the dovetail plate. If you need more help just call us. Marty Joseph Tiffen Co 818 843-4600 Ex 20
  2. Here at Tiffen I try and use 90w hypoid. Even though the gimble might act like its rotating under water, just think of the really bad odor it will put out. Just kidding people. Ever since I use to work on racing motorcycles way back when there has always been a debate over which oil is the best and provides the least friction while providing proper lubricity. I know one thing that you should never run a bearing dry. Oil provides a protective film and keeps contaminants in suspension so they don't inbed themselves in the race which causes premature wear. I have found a viscosity anything 10w or below works well. Teflon or silicon have a wide temperature operating range which is good. Mitchell or Arri camera oil work really good also. I agree you should use it sparingly. Too much oil creates a dirt magnet. So to each his own. Marty Joseph Tiffen Co.
  3. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Ed even though I had a feeling about it. As I am sitting here watching the Lakers play for for a championship I can't help thinking about him, as he was a big LA sports fan and if he was coming to work on Monday we would be hashing out what happened in the game played today. Jim and James were right he was a mentor to all of us and the way he treated people who moved on from CP was always unbelievable. He would always try and help them out no matter what the circumstances they left CP. He was very loyal to everybody who came in contact with him. He taught me so much I can't even tell you. He always backed me up, no matter what the situation. Just ask Bob Auguste, Max Penner, Lyn Taylor, John Jurgens, or GB, how loyal this guy could be. I just want to tell you one story that he told me that always made me laugh. Back in his days living in Brooklyn, his mother was giving him shit about the way he was dressing and acting, she looks out the window and asks him why he didn'nt act and dress more like the young man that was walking by his house dressed to the hilt and working his ass off. Ed goes over to the window and looks who she was talking about and guess who it was? It was Mafia boss Carlo Gambino's son. That always makes me laugh when I think about it. He was one of a kind and I will always think about what he did for me in many ways. I have many instances and memories of him and I thank him. Marty Joseph Cinema Products Corporation 1979-2000
