  1. Regular members are allowed to edit posts for up to 15 minutes after originally posting. Sustainling Members can go back and edit for up to 24 hours.
  2. I just made the previously optional registration field "Stabilizer Owner" a required entry. Let's see if the bots make it past that.
  3. If you're interested in advertising on the Steadicam Forum or you think you may want to become the exclusive site sponsor, please contact Tim for more information. Timothy Tyler Administrator tim@cinematography.com Cinematography.com PO Box 7395 Olympia, WA USA 1 360-888-2007
  4. I think you can specifiy sites when buying ads from Google. Let me know if you can't and I'll look into it further.
  5. There's no popup advertising on this forum.
  6. Eventually I believe this forum will be a 'Real Names' forum where members will be required to use their real names. Please edit your Display Name now so that it shows your real name at http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...ODE=dname_start Changing your display name does NOT affect your login. Thanks.
  7. I think adding sub-forums is a good idea as long as the need exists. No point in a sub-forum that has a dozen posts after a year though, so I suggest we create sub-forums that already have existing topics that can be moved there (with some exceptions, of course). I also don't want to create sub-forums that are the same as areas of the cinematography.com forum. I think creating an area where manufacturers and reps can talk about their wares without ANY fear of being silenced would be good. A place where a 'my company's gimbal is better than your company's gimbal' is actually acceptable as long as it's professional. I'll wait for an emailed list of new sub-forums from Erwin and then add them ASAP.
  8. > locking this thread and banning this joker. Itsi is not a joker. I worked for him on several feature and episodic projects back in my NYC Location Dept days in the 80's. I am pleasantly surprised to see him here on the this forum. After reading this thread a few times I don't see any justification for banning Itsi. He's a new user and therefor a bit unfamiliar with this community. I don't think three sentences is 'excessive quoting'. I don't think his initial post was too commercial as he was looking to hire an operator and this is a community full of operators. One of the reasons I created the cinematography.com forum way back was because a certain cinematography related mailing list would not tolerate or make room for non-professional camera people. Threatening to ban a new member for slipping up is no way to foster a community.
  9. Guests can only post in the Support Forum. That is allowed so new users can ask for help if they cannot log in. There is no sure way to lock out a problematic user who wants to cause trouble. I can block IP's, IP range's, domains, and some other stuff, but that's really not an absolute way to keep certain people out. Moderator approved registrations is one way. Charging people is another. Both of those methods will dissuade legit people from joining the forum though. I think it may be best to keep an eye out for the troublemakers and deal with the problems when they appear.
  10. I've just given moderator privileges to: Alec Jarnagin, Efletcher, and Erwin Landau. You won't see "Moderator" attached to your accounts anywhere, but feel free to add it to your signatures so people know. As Moderators, you'll see a 'Moderations Options' menu at the bottom of all threads. I don't think a 'Moderator's Guide' is available, but I'll see what I can find. Moderators can edit topic titles; edit and delete posts; view IP addresses; open, close, pin and move topics; and can warn users. One note about 'Language: Watch yours and write in English... Yes it's an international Forum...' IMO, English should not be required in this forum. I've even thought about creating regional sub-forums here and on the Cinematography.com forum so that users from other parts fo the world can communicate amongst themselves. Obviously writing in a non-English language that most forum members will not understand may limit your ability to get a response, but I don't see a need to make that illegal.
  11. I don't spend as much time as I should managing this forum's content, so I was thinking it would make sense to see if any of you regular users might be interested in moderating. A moderator would be able to edit, move, and remove posts forum-wide. A moderator should be an impartial user who typically visits the forum daily. Please nominate yourself or someone else by replying in this thread. If you object to anyone nominated, please email or PM me with your concerns. All communications will be kept private.
  12. I have recieved personal messages from both sides of the Phil vs. The Union arguments embedded in this thread. Please, let's stop the bickering. The points of view of both parties are mostly clear I think, and dragging this out can't possibly achieve much besides a chance at the final word.
  13. Please email or PM me in advance when meetings like those mentioned above are scheduled and I can add them to the forum Calendars here and at Cinematography.com. Include the meeting name, date, time, location, and description. Thx.
  14. > the threads/posts stay unread unless you read them, quite annoying What? Why would an unread post be marked otherwise? Anybody else having the link problem?
  15. You must be a Sustaining Member to post in the Classifieds area. http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...subs&CODE=index
  16. Not yet, but expect it in the future. :)

  18. You'll need to be a Sustaining Member in order to post in that category. You can upgrade here: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...tion&CODE=index
  19. You can become a Sustaining Member by clicking here. Thank you!
  20. This should be fixed now. It was a cookie issue. Everyone will need to login one more time, and then it should stick. Please post any problems or issues in the Support forum and I'll be notified.
  21. You can still use the old skin using the skin selector at the bottom of the forum, but you loose the new tabs if you do. I'm trying to put my finger on the 'logging out' issue.
  22. If you're a Sustaining Member (thank you!) then you're welcome to create a blog right here on the forum. Just follow the 'My Controls' link at the top, and then the 'Blog' menu on the left in the control panel. The blog feature is still sort of in beta testing mode, but you shouldn't need to worry too much about that. The help file for the blogs is at http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...&CODE=01&HID=17 Feel free to be as 'commercial' as you like in your own blog too. You can post problems and questions in the Support Forum. Good luck!
  23. Hey, folks. I just created a new Sustaining Member level for those of you who can afford to spend a few bucks. The membership does not expire, so once you upgrade, that's it. You'll need to upgrade to a Sustaining Member in order to post in the 'For Sale' category from now on, and there are some other perks too, like more personal message space and more file upload space. On 1/1/2005 I'm planning on adding a new BLOG feature to this forum, and you'll need to be a Sustaining Member to have a blog. Any member level or guest will be able to read the blogs though. Until the end of 2004 the cost to upgrade is $30. Beginning in 2005 it will be $50. Payment can be made via PayPal from the Control Panel (If for some reason PayPal is not an option for you, check payment is available - email me for info.) I'm happy to be able to provide this forum, and the $$ support from Sustaining Member upgrades will make it a little easier. Thanks! Looking forward to 2005,
