  1. My compliments to your 1st. Focus was nice throughout and looked challenging. > David is a mentor of mine. Operated over > 12 movies for Michael Ballhaus. I loved most of Michael Ballhaus' work from the 80's. He almost always kept the camera moving in really interesting ways. Dropping the camera from a window down to Griffin Dunne in 'After Hours' comes to mind. I did locations on a film Ballhaus shot called "House on Carrol Street" and we were shooting in the rafters high above the giant main 'hall' in Grand Central. I recall being impressed with a dual dolly rig he setup where one dolly was used on one sloped side of the ceiling to counter-balance the camera dolly on the opposing sloped side. > one shot in Prospect park Brooklyn, where the > camera cruises over the high top limbs of some trees, That was effective. Cool shot. I'm curious who's call the extra-dutch and shakey-cam shots were that occured just before Julianne Moore's character runs away from home. I was also suprised they didn't have a POV version of one of the abductions
  2. Anybody seen 'The Forgotten'? Besides liking the 'X-Files' factor, I really like the unusual moving camera shots. That long tracking shot down the narrow alley up high and behind Julianne Moore was cool. I was also wondering how often Garrett's FlyCam was used.
  3. The default per-user limit on this new forum was preset at 75kb. I just upped it to 2MB. There is a 200k limit per post too. You should be good-to-go now.
  4. Actually, the Steadicm Forums are worse off since two-plus weeks of messages got trashed here. The cinematography forums only lost 1-1/2 days.

  6. Here's a relatively hi-res shot of the V35 from NAB. http://steadicamforum.com/v35.jpg David Stevens told me that the unit he's holding had just been completed days earlier, and had to be over-nighted to NAB.
  7. Here's my two cents: http://www.cinematography.com/articles/nab2004/
  8. The following recent new users all signed up from the exact same IP address: SunTzu KingCam Steadi_D Tony_S DigitalHouse Steadi3D and a couple more from another single IP CameraMart HollywoodProductions All used hotmail.com or netzero.com email addresses.
  9. That's the way it works now. It has several advantages. If a writer decides to edit the post, you'll always see the most recent version. Because posts can be formatted and include pictures, it's not possible to deliver the content properly in an email. Viewing the messages in the forum is more efficient for this forum and for many users. Since this forum recognizes users (no need to manually log in) the link in your email will take you directly to the message, and in the contet of the whole thread too. That would be nearly impossible in an email.
  10. I count just four ;) Hey, TJ. -- Why don't you just buy a cheap ad banner here in the forum?
  11. What do you want it changed to?
  12. There is a " View New Posts" option avaialble on most pages (after you log in) that works really well for most users. The daily email digests were a nice feature, but since the new forum supports formatting with HTML and the inclusion of images, emailed messages or digests would not work for everybody. A quick daily visit to the site to check for new messages does a better job. Of course, members can still subscribe to the different forums (and even specific threads) and get notified by email when new posts are made.
  13. Please consider upgrading your SteadicamForum.com account to a Premium Membership level. Your support helps! As a Premium Member you'll receive: Create posts in the Marketplace 100MB of upload storage Unlimited Personal Messaging Edit your posts for up to 24 hours Extended Post Signature (up to 5 lines & 2 links) Cover photo on your Profile page Post highlighting Create Polls Warm fuzzy feeling & forum cred! The cost is a one-time $50 PayPal payment. Once PayPal alerts me to your payment I'll upgrade your account ASAP. Thank you!
  14. I've added some new forums, and re-ordered the bunch. I removed the "Non CP" forum and moved the threads that were there into other forums. Everything look OK?
  15. Please explain the steps you took so I can attempt to duplicate the problem here. Also, what do you mean by "crashed"? Was there an error message? There are about 8 million ways a given piece of software might crash, so it really helps to expain as many details as possible.
  16. You had to re-register because this is a new forum system. It is not technically compatable with the pre-2004 forum system/software. SteadicamForum.com is not a service of the SOA. This forum is free, and a paid membership anywhere is not required.
  17. Consider putting posts like this in the "Calendar". -TT
  18. I was in the location dept on "Bonfire" and I remember watching the beginning of the first couple of takes that Larry shot starting in the parking garage in the Winter Garden building at the WFC. Brian De Palma was in wardrobe as a security guard and riding on the back of the golf cart in the shot watching the shot on a small monitor. I recall hearing later in the day that Larry got tripped up by a crew person mid-shot on a later take and got hurt pretty bad. It's truly a fantastic shot, with credit due to both the camera and production departments. It may have been a record breaking shot too for it's length.
  19. What "subscribing thing"? If you check the "Remember me?" button when you log in, the the forum will remember you on subsequent visits and you'll never need to login again from that computer. You don't even need to "log in" to read posts, only to reply. As far as emailing message content goes, well then this wouldn't be a forum as much as it would be a mailing list. And this is a forum. A community. Also please be aware that this web site is sustained with the little revenue that the site generates from advertisements. If web traffic goes down, the site gets more expensive to maintain. I'm thinking about ways to offer premium services on this forum on a subscription basis to those who don't mind spending a few bucks. Email notifications with message content formatted for easy reading and custom formatted for portable devices is on the list.
  20. Registered members can now add events to the calendar. You should see a button at the bottom-left of the calendar display to do that.
  21. Have you tried the "View New Posts" link at the top of most pages?
  22. You can also subscribe to an entire category. The link "Subscribe to this forum" is at the bottom of each category's page.
  23. I just added this feature yesterday. It can be used for images.
