I've used Transvideo for 9 years. Given the level of reliability and ruggedness, I wouldn't consider any other monitor. The image is fantastic too. Look at the blacks—they're black. You don't see that too often in super-bright monitors.

Tiffen makes two sizes of bar clamps for the weights, and also an adjustable return-monitor mount that will carry them. Most important to know is rod spacing, as the clamps, I believe, are universal. I suggest you get in touch directly with Tiffen for better info.

I’ve been wanting to play with a GPI Pro Titan arm for ages, so a big thanks to Grant Culwell for lending me his. I can immediately see why people love this arm. It’s robust and beautifully made—though the G70x is lighter and has a couple of inches more boom range. The main differences seem to be that the Pro arm works right of of the box, whereas the G70x is tuneable for ride control. Here is a series of comparison tests of the two arms with the G70x arm tuned to 3/4 iso. I’m curious to know what you think.

I think Steadicam might be a great way to film earthquakes—if you just happened to be in the rig at the time, which is ridiculously unlikely. The Steadicam system would isolate the camera to a great extent from the quake, so you'd see the ground moving relative to the camera. However, if you did chance to be wearing the rig, you'd have the risk of falling down and hurting yourself. Attachment to a wall is tricky, especially if the wall falls down. If you are thinking of wall mounting, as Keith suggests, look at Flowcine's Black Arm instead. Steadicam needs hands-on attention.

I've done low-mode like this, working on the principle that at least three turns of even a single 3/8:16 will hold a body, and I always get two 3/8s in.

The rear washer trick is just for stability—I offer no personal guarantees on that one, but you know where I live, and you can come burn my house down.
