  1. Kurtis, Definitely get either the AB or IDX version of the Pilot. I've used the IDX model for a couple of years, and the batteries are powerful enough to run a bunch of accessories for quite a long time. The batteries and chargers are expensive, but I think everyone would agree worth the cost of avoiding the constant aggravation of changing/charging AA batteries.
  2. I'd like to add my positive comments to those above about Frederic's fine work on the Zephyr accessories. I purchased both the monitor yoke and the gimbal grip, and they're great additions to the rig. The yoke is particularly helpful for speeding up the process of going from normal mode to low mode. Indeed he's a fine person to communicate and do business with. Thanks again Frederic!
  3. Nice work, Nat. A fun movie, and a bold decision to do it in four shots. I like it that you and the director decided to make that work. As for the operating, what can I say but practice practice practice. I'm a newb too, and try to practice as often as possible. Kent
  4. Indeed, slippage during a shot would be a disaster!
  5. Thanks very much Chris. I was thinking some lube might do the job. If all else fails, we can always use an Allen key to tighten and loosen the cap head screw.
  6. Greetings all - I recently picked up a barely used Zephyr that the original owner purchased in 2012. The clamp at the bottom of the gimbal handle is so tight that I'm unable to open it by hand. Even when there is no tension from the hex screw that it screws into, it still will not open easily. The post clamp below this functions easily, without a problem. I'm wondering if the gimbal clamp should be this tight. Any thoughts? Many thanks for any input. Kent Wiley
  7. Thanks Steve. I'm going on a scout tomorrow, so perhaps I should make some discreet inquiries.
  8. Hi all, I've got an upcoming job in a large university hospital. Has anyone heard of issues or restrictions with wireless transmitters for follow focus units (Redrock) or video feeds (Paralinx) in hospitals? TIA Kent Wiley
  9. Hi all, Sounds like other models may have an occasional vibration similar to my Pilot. I've pretty much narrowed down the source to be a slight amount of backlash in the bushings that the cheeseplate/quick release plate attach to, inside the tubes at the sides of the stage. There are four connection points, and I think there is a slight amount of play there. When I clamp my hand around the plate and the tube, the vibration is much reduced. Anybody else seen this and dealt with it simply? Is this something I should contact Tiffen about? TIA
