  1. The time has come to sell my beloved Steadicam setup. Only selling due to lack of work and generally my work going in a different direction.

I am selling a full Steadicam starter kit, sled, arm, vest plus accessories, perfect for anyone wanting to get into the profession. It is all obviously used but in good condition, with one or two areas which will need assessing and fixing. I ideally want to sell this all as a package rather then individually, but will see how the sale goes. I am based in the UK but happy to ship internationally at the buyers expense.

    Steadicam EFP Carbon Fibre Sled

    • EFP 2 stage carbon fibre sled
    • HD and SD wiring, but HD signal has recently stopped working, will need attention.
    • EFP Gimbal
    • Upgraded battery mount system, easy dynamic balance
    • 3 x Battery Plate (Only 1 powered)
    • Cam-Jam Quattro II Monitor Arm with Yoke
    • 7 inch Marshal HDSDI monitor (SD Capable also)
    • 2 x Jerry Hill docking collars (for High and Low Mode)
    • Jerry Hill Gorelock docking bracket
    • EFP top stage with original EFP plates
    • Cam-Tec geared EFP base plate
    • Various BNC and Power cables
    • Flight case with customised foam

    Master Series Vest

    • Vest much used, but still comfortable to operate in.
    • Waist band has Brocken apart, see photo attached. It had already been attempted to be fixed prior to me buying it. So will need a new waist band. Believe Tiffen supply these.

    EFP Blue Spring Arm

    • Steadicam blue spring arm, also in good operating condition.
    • Slight scratches to the casing as you might expect
    • Weight range of blue spring arm is 24 to 46 LBs, Have easily flown every setup up to a stripped down Alexa.
    • Could also do with a service as all these older arms do. But still works fine.
    • Low mode bracket
    • Customised foam flight case
    • Allen key set to alter tension etc.

    Miscellaneous

    • 3 x 160Wh gold mounted batteries
    • Swit twin charger
    • 4pin XLR power cables
    • Monitor Hood
    • Various spare screws and bolts
    • Various 15mm bar extensions
    • All come in flight case

    Stand is not included

For the whole package I am looking for £10,000 + VAT

Believe this is everything, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me, my email is georgesimpsonwork@gmail.com.

  3. Hey Everyone,

First of all i want to just introduce myself. My name is George Simpson and I study Broadcast Operations at Ravensbourne University in London. Some operators may of heard of it. I am in my last year and graduate in June. I have a keen interest in camera stabilised systems and especially steadicams and i am hoping to find a job in that field when i graduate.

This is the main reason i joined the forum, to gain experience and ask a question regarding training.

At the end of each academic year we do a degree show, showcasing the talents of all the graduates, whether its broadcasting or fashion. This year, as i was graduating, i wanted to showcase my skills, and i thought the best way to do this was to operate a steadicam for the show. I went to BVE and spoke to Tiffen about possibly hiring us a steadicam and they are all up for loaning us one for the show. However, quiet rightly, they won't let me use one without any training. I have had a lot of use on the merlin, but nothing larger than that. We are hopefully looking into using the Zephyr for the show.

I am just wondering if anyone can help me with this situation. There aren't any Tiffen workshops from now till the show (June) and, as a student, have very little money to offer anyone for personal training. Would there be anyone who needs an assistant for a job where i can learn the techniques? Or give me a days training, i cant pay a lot, but i will certainly offer a beer and lunch!

I understand i am probably asking a lot, but this line of work is what i want to pursue in the future. So any advice or training would be most welcome!

    Thanks again

    George
