  1. I have to side with Brad here..... It's not popular to take the WGA's side in the issue, and I'm not 100% convinced that the strike is all for the good, but there are several issues that have weighed heavily on my mind of late....... 1) If the argument is about emerging markets, and the talk has been about the AMPTP giving writers $250.00 per streaming segment, after a six month free period, then, I have to tell you, that is patently unfair. In reading all of the press releases from the WGA, AMPTP, IATSE, as well as LA Times, NY Times, and Variety, the AMPTP has been pretty stingy with its offers. Here is the crux of the problem; Yeah we don't have work now, and we might not be able to get our families their 52" Plasma this xmas, but I'd rather scrimp this season, and know that my contracts, which are based on the contracts of our Union brothers in the earlier contract negotiations, will be worth the paper they are printed on. In other words, I am not all together comfortable dissing the WGA outright. They might just be fighting the fight of our future............ Face it, those 52" plasmas will be connected to our computers in no time. We will be streaming media and downloading programming without a thought. Networks will be pretty forgotten, and production will be done by the six big companies, whose contracts with the Unions were forged early on, when streaming and downloading were in their infancy. In other words, think about the future when voting on the present. 2) I hate seeing the tit for tat rationale. "Well they don't support us, so why should we support them"...... Isn't that what producers want us to do? Fight amongst ourselves? Wasn't there a merger of the IATSE and NABET 15, in 1990, so that we didn't fight, and instead, unite? What about the merger between Locals 644, 659, and 666? Wouldn't it be a radical notion if all unions came together, like all producers do under the umbrella of the AMPTP , and negotiate the best reasonable contracts for as many members as possible? Call me crazy, or any thing else you might like, but that is the idea of unionism, at least in my mind. All I'm trying to impress upon you guys is that I believe that there is a lot more gray than there is black and white. There is more to it than just going back to work. And there is more to the issues than meets the eye at present. Just some thoughts. Have a great weekend. Jamie.
  2. Claus; I happen to have an extra case in my house that used to house my sled. I'd love to give it to you if you are interested and it works for you. Call me and let me know. Jamie 917 796-4217
  3. I have a used XCS Frame Line Generator if you are interested. Send me an email if you want to talk about it. Jamie.
  4. I have an Encore case (very much like the Anvil case) that might fit your needs that you can have for the cost of shipping. Get me the dimensions and I'll send you the particulars. If it fits your sled, its yours. All you might want to do is put some new foam in it. Let me know. Jamie.
  5. Rick; The Blackbird is a Hummingbird monitor made and distributed directly by Imp electronics, although I believe that Markertek now distributes them in the US. The only difference between the Hummingbird and the Blackbird is that the Blackbird has a Limo connector and a frameline generator. If you are referring to the monitor that Howard Smith has modified, I have no idea about what he did and what is available. I can tell you however that I have Greg's level and I have not experienced any problems between the monitor and the level related to Chroma, or anything else . Secondly, I can't believe that there is no Chroma/color adjustment on the monitor. Even the most rudimentary monitor has an adjustment for the amount of Chroma you desire in a specific setup. No chroma adjustment is almost like telling me that a monitor has no brightness or contrast adjustment. It seems to me that if you want and need an optimal image you have to have Chroma adjustment available somewhere on the monitor to help regulate the signal being sent to you from the source. What do you do if you want to look at an image in black and white?
  6. Mark/Rick; Why of course the monitor has a Chroma adjustment. At least the BlackBird does.. First of all turn the monitor on...... then 1) On the right side of the monitor is a button labeled Menu. Press Menu once 2) You should see Main Menu on the top of the new page. Underneath Main Menu you should see a series of options. Find "Image Setup". 3) Using the two buttons above the Menu Button, you can scroll either up or down. Scroll to "Image Setup". Once Image Setup is highlighted press the Menu Button again. 4) You are now on the Image Setup page. Scroll down to "Color" and then press Menu. 5) On the Color Page, you can either increase or decrease the Chroma (color intensity) by using the buttons above the Menu Button. 6) Once you are satisfied with the color press ESC until there are no more menu prompts, or go to the Exit command on each page and hit the Menu button until there are no more menu pages on the screen. I am normally a knuckle headed analog kinda guy (exception being my Mac), but I found these menus pretty easy. With a little familiarization, you should too. I really like this monitor. I hope this helps. Jamie.
  7. On several occasions, when I was doing a crane walk off or walk on, I have used a single K6 gyro on the post. I like the results and everyone else seemed pretty happy too. Antlers are a great tool too, but just watch out for the actors heads. Jamie.
  8. Jamie; It is a good idea to hold on to it. I did a shot on Criminal Intent walking down the isle of a bus with my back mounted vest and it was almost impossible. I was virtually sideways, with the rig out in front of me. The vest took most of the weight and put it in its proper places (not my lower back), but the sheer torque and clumsiness of the shot made it absolutely no fun at all. Not to mention that it took longer than anyone wanted just to figure out how to fit in to the space. That is what you get for not getting any scouts or information before the shot....... Keep the vest. Jamie.
  9. The Docking rings have been sold, but I found another thing that I would love to get out of the basement besides the case....... 1)I have an XCS Gimbal Sleeve that fits a 1.5" post. I don't need it as I have a 2" post, and I would love to see someone take it off of my hands. So if you are thinking about buying a fantastic Gimbal (the XCS Gimbal that is) and would like to save hundreds of dollars ( I believe the value of the sleeve alone is around $1000), give me a call and make some sort of reasonable offer or trade. I am more than open to listen to pretty much anything...... And take the sled case while you are at it.!!!!!!!!! here is the description of it if you are interested....... 2) I recently changed my sled case because when I went to my 2" post, with my Jerry Rig, the sled became too long for the case. So I (and my wife) would love to get the old case out of my house. It is a Encore ATA case, made with 5/16" framing, with fiber glass covering, two heavy duty latches, and 5 handles (two on each of the long sides, and one on top). The dimensions are 30 3/4" long, 26 1/4 wide and 10 1/4 INSIDE DIMENSIONS. Its is most definitely used, but in very good shape. The case has 1" foam all around the inside. I have no idea what to ask for the case, but I am more than happy to hear all offers, including trades for old Pelican cases. I live in NYC, so I think that anything outside of the metro region isn't a great idea due to shipping. The case is in good condition, and I would love to find it a new home. As I said, the sled is too small for me, but will fit a PRO sized sled just fine. I just want to find new homes for these things. Nice warm homes that will love and cherish them........... Ahem...........You know what I mean. Feel free to give me a call at 917 796-4217, or email me through the forum Thanks and stay warm; Jamie.
  10. I've got several things that I would love to get out of my basement. They are sitting around gathering dust...... 1) If you are thinking about getting a new style Gorelock docking bracket (Gorelock 2) or if you already have one and need extra docking rings for a super post or a second sled, I have two docking rings for a 1.5" post. I am more than happy to sell them as 2 for the price of one, or $85.00 for the both, OR best offer. 11. TJ; I have to agree that the lack of a US distributor is a little disconcerting, but on the other hand, IMP has been more than happy to accommodate my needs and questions. Other than the distributorship, the monitor has worked wonderfully, and is a pleasure to work with. Jamie.
  12. Not only has Jerry been humping the beast for 30 years, he has been teaching, and teaching well for quite some time. Not to mention that when I was down in New Orleans on a movie, several months before Katrina, Jerry was more than kind enough to lend me his Bartech when my went down. I was reminded at that moment, that this is a pretty great community of people, mostly out to help each other. Sure we argue and disagree, but in a pinch, we generally are out there ready to help. Thanks again Jerry and congratulations. Jamie.
  13. I own a Hummingbird Blackbird and I am very pleased with its performance. It's similar to the MK-V version in that it has a frame line generator, is very bright, and has a PRO connector. It does not have the Analog style knobs and no heater. The cost however is very good relative to a TB-6 and to MK-V's version of the Hummingbird. Contact IMP electronics if you are interested in seeing one in comparison to the MK-V version. I hope this is helpful. Jamie
  14. There was an extension module available on ebay, but my bidding finger wasn't fast enough. As a result, I am still in the market for an Anton Bauer extension module, if anyone has one available that is. Thanks; Jamie
  15. At 3 months old, I would get in touch with Tiffen and find out what their solution is. The solution should be a long term one, and shouldn't really cost you anything by virtue of the fact that the arm is 3 months old!!! Not to sound too much like a consumer advocate, any time you spend several thousands of dollars on a product, the reliability of that product should be long lasting and the service should be willing and on going, as I am hopeful Tiffen's will be. The arm should provide you with great quiet operation for many years, and Tiffen should be proactive with their solutions. I look forward to hearing about what happens both with the arm and Tiffen's response to the problem. Jamie.
  16. Got to say that mine was back to me in about 1 1/2 weeks from Cramped Attic and it works just fine. I know it's just prolonging the inevitable purchase of something else, but at least I can save my pennies while my 3000 keeps going. Jamie.
  17. Will; Brilliant. A really well thought out insight, perfectly voiced!! Jamie.
  18. I am not a moderator, nor do I ever plan on being one. I think that I have opinions that are at least in my mind valuable to others, and I want to maintain my subjective voice. It seems to me that a moderator's position is to moderate and not to voice opinion. If a moderator voices an opinion, he or she cannot properly moderate, their bias showing through. I have read the Alien posts with great interest for a long time now, from the time Lynn Nicholson was deeply involved with his project to present. I have witnessed much of the tumult and tempest and I am very aware of how sensitive the subject is to many people. While I think that anyone who wants to voice their opinion regarding the Alien, or any other product for that matter has the right to, as long as that opinion is presented responsibly , I'm not sure that name calling is a proper approach. I'm not here to protect or defend MK-V or anyone associated with MK-V. To suggest that we not listen to Manufacturer's 'droids' in reference to the discussion about the Alien, begs the question as to who the 'droid in question is. It seems to me that the inference is directed at MK-V, and not all manufacturers, and as a moderator, I for one wouldn't use the term in this instance, and for that matter at any time in this manner. It kind of shows your bias, and as I said, it seems to me that a moderator should at least present a impartial face. Just my opinion. Now can we please speak nicely........
  19. Philip; I don't know what Tiffen is charging for the monitor, but I can highly recommend the IMP Blackbird. It is very bright, great for outdoor work and is weighted very well. I have been using it for about 2 years now and I don't have any complaints, and the price isn't bad for a daylight viewable monitor with framelines. You should also look at the Transvideo high brightness monitors. They are very light in weight, but I have been told that their pciture is good outside, and you can compensate for the lack of heft by adding a battery back on to back of the monitor. Both of these monitors would need a down converter when shooting HD, which shouldn't present a problem. I am personally avoiding HD monitors for now. Jamie
  20. Janice; Unless his numbers have changed, they are: 323 938-5659 (w) 310 621-4763 (m) How it the rig doing? Jamie
  21. I'm trying to get rid of things that I most probably won't use again (New Year's resolution). So here are some things to start with. 2 - 1.5" docking rings for a Gorlock docking bracket. They were made by Jerry Hill, and they worked just fine when I had a 1.5" post. So if you are thinking about buying a Gorlock docking bracket and you want to save a little cash buy these. They are $42.50 each, which is 1/2 the listed price 1- 1.5" PRO post clamp gyro mount. I just can't seem to stretch it around my 2" post, so if you have 2 K4 gyros, and want to put the second one on your post, or are thinking about getting a gyro or two, this could be a good deal. I am selling this for $200.00, which is also 1/2 the listed price. If interested, you can email me silverodt@earthlink.net Have a wonderful and happy New Year. Jamie.
  22. Erwin; That should be a New Year's resolution for all of us. Recycle. Thank you for mentioning it and have a great New Year. Peace.
  23. One more thing: Make sure that the receiver is working properly. Take all of the other RF devices off the of the rig or at least turn them off and test to see the range of the receivers. If they seem to have very little range (if the light turns red when you are not too far away from the rig), it might mean that they need to be looked at by Jim. If there is a problem, it's usually fixed with great care and very quickly.
  24. The Klassen vest bag has been sold, but I still have the gyro clamp if anyone is interested. Jamie.
  25. Dan; All of those options seem like good choices, with the exception of the throw out option. If you think that you are going to need them in the future for recelling then keep them. I for one believe that you can never have too many batteries in good condition. I also live in New York, where in the past it has gotten very cold, and battery life has diminished quickly. Trimpacs are great for director's monitors, or powering a receiver. If you have Gyros, they can be used to get them going while you are in the docking stand. Iguess from my perspective, if the technology isn't obsolete to you, then the batteries should be kept for recelling or giving away to an up and coming guy needing to save a buck here and there. Just my 2 cents. Jamie.
