  1. Hiya - looking for something like an LX or older (cheaper) Master vest if anyone has one for sale - or a pre-loved Pro. Let me know if you have one lying around or are thinking of upgrading!
  2. Hi all, I'm leaving the world of cinema and so am selling the remainder of my rig. The sled is an Archer 2, the earlier folding design, upgraded early last year at Optical Support with a Volt gimbal, which works amazingly well. Along with the sled come an american docking stand, v-lock accessory mount, balance weights, low mode and camera handle brackets, a monitor upgrade to an older model Transvideo 6” SBL Cinemonitor, a Volt docking bracket, and plenty of accessory cables and tools, as well as a Peli Storm iM2950 to keep it in. The arm is a stock G50 x in good condition in it's own padded Manfrotto bag with rain covers. I'm the second owner of both these items; they have been well maintained and honestly not used particularly often. SLED and accessories priced at £20,000 G50X arm priced at £6000 No VAT payable. I'm also selling: IDX VL-4S Charger and 8x IDX Steadicam PowerCube 98Wh V-lock batteries, bought in 2013 and again not often used, still hold a charge well. £1400 Mitchell tripod / scaffold mount socket block, indestructible: £500 25lb / 11kg practise cage: £400 2x IDX 73Wh v-locks and a IDX VL-2X Charger: £400 Steadicam original archer 2 case: £300, or free to anyone who buys both arm and sled and wants it (it needs alteration to fit the sled with the bigger volt gimbal, and only fits the arm when disassembled, I rarely used it). Steadimate arm to gimbal adapter: £300 Spare monitor, Marshall V-LCD70XP-3GSDI: £100 or free if you're buying the sled and want it. Open to offers if you want multiple items, or better yet, the whole lot. Arm and sled will be dropped off at Optical Support for a service at my expense, buyer can inspect there, and pick up there or arrange shipping at their expense AFTER a sale has completed. 3. Hi Ian, that is an extremely cool project and I wish you all the best but you may not find that anyone here is able to help you - most steadicam systems are purely physical, relying on masses in balance and inertia rather than motors and electronics. There are certainly systems that have motorised components but those of us who use them are mainly operators rather than engineers! There are a few people who might have some helpful knowledge - I hope they read this and chip in because it's a fun project and I'd love to hear what they have to say - but in case that doesn't happen, I'm going to suggest you hit up the racing drone enthusiast forums because those guys are all about tiny, fast IMUs with custom programming and ludicrous motors (as a start, I built a drone myself with a NAZE 32 flight controller and I know that thing had an option to make it act as a gimbal controller - that is, detect pitch/yaw/roll and send appropriate signals to motors to compensate). Good luck!
  4. I'm an A2 / G50x user and it's never let me down; it'll take a varicam 35 and reasonably big lenses with no problem. For a thorough discussion of real-world builds people have flown see http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=16238
  5. Hi Mark, I have one that I don't use often, where are you based?
  6. G50 arm for sale, upgraded to X in 2015 and used rarely since then, fantastic condition. I bought this recently and have never used it; I was planning to put together a rig from separate pieces but am selling as I've found the perfect full rig. Bag, spare parts and alternate arm post ends included. Looking for £7k, I don't have to charge VAT but buyer pays shipping and any applicable taxes. Get in touch if you are interested!
  7. Hi all, Selling my Aero 30 rig (V-lok) with steadistand and low-mode bracket. Owned by me from new for 6 months so still under Tiffen UK warranty. Gimbal recently serviced at their office in Pinewood. Selling as I'm moving up in the world! Looking for £4000 Sterling, I don't have to charge VAT but buyer is responsible for shipping and taxes if applicable. Great first rig (it was mine), works fantastically with C300, FS7, smaller RED builds and Alexa Mini. Get in touch if you have any questions!
  8. Hiya folks, looking for an archer 2 - ideally the newer SP but not a deal-breaker. Based in the UK but happy to talk shipping. Drop me a line!
  9. I'm interested - have sent you a PM!
  10. Zoran, you misunderstand me. My arm was under tension as I had a Ronin and FS7 mounted on it, and it was at the normal (vertical) angle for tensioning such that the tensioning knobs were turning freely. The 'angle' I'm talking about is because the centre of mass was further away horizontally from my body than normal for a sled setup. Good info regarding the bearing though, thanks! Good luck with the shoot Tom, let us know how you get on!
  11. I've just got back from a shoot where we used a Ronin on my Aero 30 arm with a steadimate, carrying an FS7. Honestly, I hated it, it damagd my arm (not enough to kill the rest of the shoot thankfully, and i'm still under warranty and already have a loaner will it's fixed!) and after one setup I insisted that we just use my steadicam set up normally for the rest of the shots. Frankly, it's not really all that great a setup: the arm will take some of the weight off your arms, but you're still holding all that weight way out in front of you - not sure about which Movi you will be using but the Ronin is quite long so you have to lean back a bunch to balance. I felt substantially more strained than I did when I was just using my sled normally with the same camera package. Additionally, the steadicam arm will stick out waay to one side and therefore make it harder for you to maneuver - we were on a small set and I was clashing with lightstands that would not have been in the way with a normal setup. While I was tensioning the arm one of the bearings in the tension guide rail (not sure what the official name for this part is) broke - I suspect because the angle the arm was at was much more extreme than when you're normally tensioning for a sled - the weight was much further from my body than normal. So be careful! Finally, you should ask what I did - what does a gimbal get you over a steadicam? They are harder to balance, harder to hold, more batteries to worry about, and way more likely to do unpredictable things mid-shot like judder or just stop working. We had to turn the ronin off and on again constantly! Gimbals are possibly better at maintaining a level horizon while panning with the lens tilted up or down, but for moving backwards and forwards, sideways, booming and rotating around a subject, I think a trad steadicam setup is superior. Anyway I'm pretty new to all this (Hi forum, by the way!) so I hope more experienced operators will chime in - I'm really interested in this topic too and maybe there are ways of doing things that I have missed.
