  1. I'm looking for an American 1 or 2-riser stand with 6" or 8" wheels.
  2. http://webpages.charter.net/bartech/access.html I'm really just looking for the rod clamps. I have a complete Bartech kit, except for that piece.
  3. I'm in the market for a new arm and I (briefly) tested out a PRO and an Artemis arm. However, there is one thing I'm not used to and I was hoping someone could shed some light upon. When the arm (either arm) reaches the bottom of it's boom range, it just stops. The stop isn't feathered out by the spring reaching the end of it's range. There is no change in the force required to push it further. That isn't something I'm used to, so it's very strange to me. I'm used to an arm that pushes back at the end (even when properly set up). I'm curious about everyone's opinions on this. Is that just something that you get used to? Does hitting the bottom every hurt/ruin your shot? Do any other operators share my preference resistance at the end of the boom range?
  4. Let me rephrase: He is NOT calling to give you a chance to save your job. He is calling because he RESPECTS you and the work Steadicam Operators do and wants to know why the MOVI won't cut it. (Remember we're in the future, it's not necessarily the first time the equipment is being used.)
  5. A Producer calls you about a job. He wants to use either the MOVI M20 or YOU on Steadicam. He says the MOVI will "save them money", "let them work faster", and "the DP is happy" because now he can operate remotely via the monitor. However, he is calling to give you a chance to save your job. What do you tell him? What makes steadicam so much better? For the sake of argument, let's assume a few things: 1. This is the future and that the equipment actually exists and works as advertised. (Just go with it) 2. The camera+AKS balances on your rig and the MOVI 3. You don't just tell the guy "Good Luck with that"
  6. Take your height and divide it in half. Measure the distance from the "widest" part of your hips to the floor. They should be equal. Proportion Diagram: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maw727nrkd1r4c2rvo3_1280.png
  7. You're definitely right, but a hovercraft sure beats wading in the water with your monitor and batteries underwater.
  8. Has anyone mounted their rig on a hovercraft before? Just imagine a shots going over a pond... lordy.
  9. Oh No! I just meant run a power cable from the battery to the monitor. Mark, thank you. Great information. Time to start saving up.
  10. I'm considering making some upgrades to my Flyer. To start, I think I'd like a better monitor. Here is the cable at the bottom of my sled ] What is the name of this 9-pin cable? Can I convert this to BNC only? (Powering off the Anton Bauer Dtap from the V-Mount) Do I have any real options for upgrading? I really appreciate the experts sharing their knowledge. Additional Photos I'll take my answer off the air.
  11. Afton- My main difficulty comes from the exit, the initial lock off, and cramped locations where I can't maintain good technique. Thanks for the great advice though. I'm saving up for the class now. Used to be in Boston(born and raised), now I'm in LA. -- Jamie Northrup Steadicam Flyer Operator Los Angeles, used to be Boston
  12. First time poster, long time reader. I've noticed that the shots I have the hardest time operating (losing horizon) are those that involve circling a subject or approaching a subject and then doing a curve around them. Like so: This makes complete sense to me because obviously the direction of the rig is constantly changing and, because an object in motion stays in motion, I need constant pressure on the post not to lose the horizon. It is my understanding of physics that if I were operating with a 0 sec. drop time a circular path would not be of a challenge, although operating would be trickier. However, because I've a 2 sec. drop time my center of mass is lowered to the tips of my fingers and thus introduces the difficulty. Any tips on operating this shot? And the lock-off? I'll take my answer off the air. -- Jamie Northrup Steadicam Flyer Operator Los Angeles
