The beginning of a new 'radical option' [I personally tried it at Lynn's Las Vegas appartment (1999), before Howard Smith did ;)] Glidecam produced the 1st Body-Mounted System for cameras 10 lbs and under. (1998) Cinema Products/Steadicam Bankrupt (2000) Sachtler Artemis (formerly know as the 'Eclipse' system, developed by Curt Schaller of the company 'Move' Stabilizers) was announced at NAB 3 years prior (2001). Thanks Felix! As Lisa mentioned, it could be a combination of a few things; case in point. That being said. Rule #1 if there is 'play' in any of the components, that is 100% not-good and should be addressed asap. As an Operator, always verify that each component is 'Play-Free', by applying torsion to each joint, and hand testing. "visually" test, looking for movement or 'play' "listen' for 'play' - "clicking sounds, etc" are an indication of movement, while torsion is applied "feel" for 'play' - vibrations can also indicate 'play' At the end of the day all working parts should be in 'fixed' positions. ....AND always verify that the Gimbal of the Sled is Concentric and calibrated, which is best tested with 'Slow' Drop Time (i.e 5 to 7+ seconds - depending how sensitive you want the Vertical Axis to be during this test) I do NOT recommend Neutral Balance for Gimbal testing.
