  1. I'm one of the NY OPs that compared arms a few years ago. I was in the market for a new arm. I need a few items so I was hoping i didn't have to buy PRO arm, but I was considering it heavily. I was trying to get my hands on a g70 arm. then one day a used g-70 comes up on the forum, $15500. The next day i get the invite to the private arm event. Long story short we all decided that the Prices were accurate for the gear. The PRO ARM was a little better, say 4 grand better. But the Big thing I want to point out here is the G-70 and PRO arm were WAY better then the Ultra/ master and 3A arms we were comparing them to. The 3A arm was mine and it is the nicest 3A arm I'd ever used and many other ops have said the same. The only instance that the arms didn't perform equally well was , at what point did the arm stop removing our movement. We tested this by walking in place and slowing down until the sled rose and fell with us. The PRO ARM worked a little longer. This is the reason people see there steps sooner with a g-70 arm than a PRO ARM. But it was only a small difference. Lets remember, part of our jobs as operators is to recommend the proper equipment for the shot, if it should be a slow dolly get the camera on the dolly. After the side by side we all talked about my impending purchase. Well, I found the money fast and bought the g-70 arm. I've used the G-70 arm for the last few years with great success. A few months ago I was on a Big TV show and the DP came up to me and said "It's a little floaty." I said, "good or bad Floaty." "I think I can see your steps," he replied. This was the first anyone had mentioned it or I had seen it. It was subtle, but definitely there. The design of the shot was perfect of showing THE ISSUE. So like any Professional would do, I panicked. Well first I got the shot with as little bounce as possible. Then I panicked. Then I called TIFFEN and emailed Garrett. Garrett called me with in 10 minutes of me pressing SEND. We talked. I set up the upgrade with Tiffen. They supplied a PHANTOM arm for me to use. It took about a week and $2500 for me to get my arm back. It's GREAT, so smooth. Next time I get a chance I'm going to get together with my PRO arm buddies and do another comparison. They have to be so so close now. There was a few weeks I waited for a loaner arm to be available. I don't want anyone to think that Tiffen dropped everything to take care of me. We all talked and worked out a schedule. I feel they took good care of me. Do I wish is was cheaper. Yes. Would I spend the money again know the difference. Yes, I Would. As for the g-50, I've never use one, tested on, or seen one. so I have nothing to say in that regard. I hope everyone, can come to a solution that makes everyone happy. I know Tiffen, Garret, Jerry, Larry etc, have all put in many hours for R&D to make this upgrade possible. I for one couldn't expect it to be free. Good luck everyone. Oh Yeah, the Full disclosure thing. I have never bought an Item from tiffen. I've never worked for them or be offer anything to support them. All the New Items, I've purchased from PRO, XCS. I have blue Eye and like to take long walks of short piers.
  2. You need a lot of practice, an AC, and a follow focus system. You can rent them for the shoots or buy a BFD and motor from bartech engineering. you can try to find one used in on this site. You should take the SOA workshop to learn how to use you steadicam correctly. as far as a lenses that will keep everything in focus you would have to use a 10mm to a 16mm lenses on a 5D, but there will be some wide angle distortion(fisheye) in the image. it's definitely a look that has been used to great effect in music videos. like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHHT7dTmw8U there are explicit lyrics to be forewarned. good luck, Aaron
  3. Chirs, Your questions really have to do with directing. I suggest you take a directing class and read as many books as you can on the subject. Their is not a 100% recipe for which camera support to use in any given circummstance. There are Rules of thumb. you have to learn them by doing and by observation. Everytime you watch a movie or tv show try to figure out how the shot was done. Then think about why the DP, Director and Operator choose to do it that way. You will find that many people will do shots the same way, but the great films/TV shows uses the camera support, lighting, angles, shot sequencing, art direction that support the story and actors perfectly. BUT do Practice, do every shot the director asks you to do that is safe. Try to learn from their choices. I went ot NYU to study cinematography because I loved it. While I was there I studied Directing, Sound design, psychology, physics, Mythology and poetry, to name a few. Get a broad base of knowledge. It all come into play in our business. Good Luck, Aaron
  4. I don't know if the ergo handle fits on a 3A gimbal. My guess is it does not. I've got an email out o Greg Bubb. I'l let you all know what i find out. If anyone reading this knows please post. thanks, Aaron
  5. This is the original ergo handle from XCS. It's the longer version. $900. it is the left hand one for goofy operators. I'm buying the smaller one because I switched arms. This will help any op using a 3A, EFP, masters, Ultra arm is giving you more room to operate in Low Mode. I love it. It eliminates the need for a J bracket. XCS gimbal sleeve for 1.5 in center post, ei pro, 3a, etc $400 This is the sleeve only. you would need a XCS Gimbal to use it. Greg make a great gimbal. XCS TB-6 also for sale It all works as it should. Thanks, Aaron

  9. I'm selling my trusted and loved TB-6 Dual with frame line generator monitor serial number 161. It's been a great monitor with great service by Greg Bubb at XCS. The monitor is in great condition. it was recently serviced by Greg. He put in new buttons and magic dust that will keep one of the best monitors ever made running flawlessly for years to come.(That is not a warranty, just an opinion based on the history of this brand of monitors) Most are familiar with this monitor, if you are not: It is great in low light and bright light. Better than any other monitor. It is SD It has multiple pages of dual frame lines, so you can have multiple cameras saved in the menu and just toggle from one to another. you can zoom the image you can squeeze or unsqueeze the image both left and right and up and down. it has peaking. Basically it is awesome, maybe I should buy it... The blue that you see in the picture is from Ptouch labels of my personal info that I pulled off for the picture. I'll clean it all off nicely before shipping. Thanks for looking, Aaron Medick Contact me though this board or the below methods 917-714-3686 aaronmedick(AT)mac.com

  11. Anybody in NY want a 12lb steal bar with a tapped 3/4 whole and 1/4 20 pass threw? I used it to practice. I bought a weight cage to deal with the DSLRs so this is taking up space. I'll drop it off to you in NYC for $50.

  13. I have no experience with the Panasonic, But the Nano Flash is a great product. If you work as a DP you can take advantage of being able to record at better quality than many cameras with it. It's on my list of must haves.
  14. Robert if you know how it was please PM me. I'd hate to recommend/meet/ know the person.
