  1. I'm not an attorney, but I'm not sure that's always the case. I believe it depends on the laws in the state you're in as well as whether you did steadicam or just conventional operating. Are you positive that this is the case in CA Jess?
  2. I drive in LA everyday...so, you know, that's pretty near death. Oh, and this one time, I was out drinking with BJ, and we almost died. Pretty standard. Oh, and I saw Ron's splinter! OMG! I rubbed some Lisigav on it. Poor Ron.
  3. I shot a project with it recently (no steadicam). It's OK. The viewfinder and monitor are absolute garbage. It's the same old story with hand holding it...not great. For what it is, the footage looked pretty good.
  4. We had it for testing on a show the other day, and I was thinking the exact same thing about the Arri base plate. Also, in the picture above the camera seems to be completely stripped. There can very easily be 3 or four more pieces added to the body even before you add the assistants accessories. I'm not too worried about having to add weight to it. The body itself is shockingly heavy as well.
  5. I've been burned every single time I've worked deferred. The first time the movie actually made money and I had a contract signed that stating that I got 5 gross points on the back end. When I saw the movie on sale at Best Buy I promptly called the producer. Shockingly, his number was disconnected and no one who worked on the movie ever heard from him again. But at least I learned my lesson, and now I'll do a favor for a friend, but I'd never do a deferred job unless I was just considering it a freebie.
  6. I'm looking for the battery plate that works with Master Series batteries. More specifically, I'm looking for the little plastic (delrin?) piece that attaches to the back of the plate. Anyone have one they're willing to part with? PM me or call me at 310-562-5652 if you do. Thanks.
  7. I used to have some back problems related to a snowboarding accident that happened years ago, but since I started steadicam 11 years ago I've had much less pain and stiffness. I have experienced issues related to handheld though, which is much harder on the body in my opinion.
  8. These are the ones I like: My link I normally buy them at REI, but sometimes you can find a better deal by searching the net.
  9. I'll second Jess's suggestion. All I wear are Smart Wool socks. They stay dry and are very comfortable.
  10. I don't know the story, but I'm assuming you said that it was a brilliant idea.
  11. Wow, he made some really embarrassing mistakes.
  12. Bummer, the video has been removed. I really wanted to see it after reading all the responses. Anyone have another link?
  13. So it looks like I'll be flying the 7D next week. I'm getting a prep day, which is great, but I'm (sadly) fairly clueless about these cameras. I've read a fair amount here that should be helpful, but I'm hoping to get any other tips that will help me not look like a complete idiot. Thoughts?
  14. I'm curious why you guys are powering that camera off your rigs. It's a little infolithium battery right? It can't be much more than a few ounces. Why spend the time and money making a cable for that camera?
  15. Hmmmm, I wish I'd read that a long time ago! I just keep going until I run into something and stop...is that wrong?
  16. Of course anyone working in the film industry is forbidden from trading. I'm sure the studios won't be trading through subsidiaries...they're ethics are too high.
  17. I didn't really mean to imply anything. Just wondering if your search for a weight plate meant that you expected to be needing it on your show next season.
  18. Thanks for the good info and pictures guys. I'm not sure which rig it is at this point. Someone knows, but I haven't heard yet. We're possibly testing a new rig from Germany as well. I guess I'll find out all the details on Monday. BJ, I'm still on that movie right now but the days have been switched around a bit and I happen to have Mon. and Tues. off.
  19. I'm a 3D virgin, but I'm gonna pop my cherry next week on a test shoot with an SI2K/Element Technica rig. I'll prep on Monday and shoot on Tuesday. Is there any pre-prep I should do in the meantime? Anything to look out for or anything I need to know? I've yet to see the rig, but from what I understand it's quite reasonable weight wise, although I'm guessing it will have a pretty high profile and may be a bit unwieldy. It's a beam splitter rig and not side by side. Any thoughts about this rig in particular or 3D in general would be appreciated. And don't worry, I'll have a healthy supply of Lisigav on the day and reservations at Jumbos Tues. night.
  20. I just used it a couple weeks ago and it was great. But I can see where the six wheeler might be a little more stable.
  21. There was a Panahead for sale either here or at cinematography.com. I don't remember what the price was.
  22. Since we're talking about shoes, lets talk laces. I've been wearing Merrells for a long time and my favorite has been the Merrell Chameleon Stretch partially because of the lacing system. I have finicky feet and I like to adjust the tightness of my shoes many times throughout the day depending if I'm sitting on a dolly, doing steadicam, relaxing at lunch, etc, so these are perfect for me. I recently bought the Merrell Pivot to try out something new. So far so good. Is anyone else wearing shoes with these types of laces? I know Merrell isn't the only brand with laces like that.
