  1. Hi James, I spoke with Philippe over the phone this afternoon and I know he is super busy, he received a big order for his Clip-one and he is making them while also preparing for the IBC, he have seen the messages here and told me I could reply on his behalf as your question is exactly the one I asked the second time I tested the SledX. So that's what we did, we put the MIMIC sensor on the SledX and controlled a MoVI M15 this way, just to see what would happen. It did work, it was a very interesting experience, but the MIMIC has quite a lot of latency and it can drift, because of the technology it uses The SledX is intended to control a Gyro-Stabilized remote head, such as Brushless Gimbals (MoVI, RONIN), with almost no latency and zero drifting. with a completely different technology compared to the MIMIC. But I can't say much more about that. But don't hesitate to ask more questions to Philippe here, he will be able to give you answers soon enough. What I can say is that the SledX is a little marvel, it's impressive how it can manage to actively and perfectly stabilize itself and at the same time understand your gentle controls over its Central Post. As you test it out you understand that a lot of care have been put into making sure how natural its feeling is. Philippe will have the SledX prototype with him at IBC! K.
  2. Super cool... Have you seen the special edition blue hand unit Cmotion did for one of their customers?: K.
  3. Hello Shawn, welcome in Hell! (the new, frozen over one) Food for thought: - Who Needs Sleep? - 12on/12off I remember a Music Video on which the producer stopped the shooting because I almost tripped over and crashed while running in a forest full speed in low-mode, we were shooting for 32 hours... [Edit] Here it is, just found it on YouTube, there is only two non-Steadicam setups: The "I almost crashed" shot is at 2:42, the bumps that the director kept as the ending shot where already a clue that I was too tired to keep going. K.
  4. Best footwork practice? Just dance ! Dance like nobody's watching: ;) K. (Seriously)
  5. They are too busy posting snide remarks on their new playground: Steadicam groups on Facebook... And as they think they are so right about everything in the whole friggin universe they don't feel necessary to defend themselves! K.
  6. Hi Kevin, There is a smart device from PLC Electronic Solutions, it's simply called the "C300 On/Off Cable" but it's actually an electronic that will use the trigger coming from your ARRI camera run cable plugged into it and will convert it to the LANC signal needed for a Canon C300 or a C500 or any other camera or recorder using this protocol, such as all the cameras from Blackmagic (Production Camera 4K, Cinema Camera & Pocket Cinema Camera) and also onboard recorders like the AJA Ki Pro Mini. The fact that it uses the ARRI camera Start/Stop cable we already own makes it compatible with all remote systems, be it a Preston or a Bartech, etc. Cool ! Here is the page about this product : PLC Electronic Solutions C300 On/Off Cable K.
  7. Something like the Airfloater ? Manufactured by Cartoni, here is it's page on Cartoni's website : Cartoni - Airfloater It also has a dedicated website : Airfloater.com K.
  8. Here is a long awaited and an absolute must watch, it is the making-of shot during the rehearsals of "La Traviata" in Paris in the early summer of 2000. This program was filmed live and broadcasted in Mondovision June 3, the DOP was Mr Vittorio Storaro. It is a fantastic opportunity to have a close look at the work of two "Steadicam Living Masters", Garrett Brown and Valentin Monge : Shot and edited by Martin Monge and Christine Keller. K.
  9. Garrett's topic is back online and Tim Tyler, the owner of this forum, is asking for your opinion, here is the link : SteadicamForum - Immoderation K.
  10. The Canon C300 has a SD video output, no need for a downconverter to use it with your SD monitor. You have to go into the camera's settings to get it from the "SYNC OUT" BNC port. Here's the part about it in the camera's manual : You can download the manual here : EOS C300 Brochures & Manuals
  11. Well, when I asked about a MDR that would work with the WCU-4 on ARRI's booth at IBC the ARRI guy said there were none and that none were planned for now, but if You know the reference of such existing MDR and about a smaller upcoming MDR that works with it let us know, I don't work for ARRI and can only relay the replies I got to my questions from people actually working for that company. The WCU-4's build quality is great and I was with two operators and friends who are in the market for a FI+Z system so we asked about the use on other cameras than the ones from ARRI with integrated radio capabilities. We were disappointed and I didn't see why it wouldn't work with an existing or a new dedicated ARRI MDR but that is the reply I got. They were emphasizing the fact that with the WCU-4 You will be able to change settings on the ALEXA Plus/Studio like sensitivity, color balance, frame rate, etc. K.
  12. Hi Jim, It's for the handset only, from what I have been told by an ARRI rep, the WCU-4 is mostly a FI+Z (and camera functions) remote designed for the ALEXA Plus and the ALEXA Studio, both cameras being equiped with the radio receiving and motors controling option. There is no standalone receiver to be paired with that handset planned for now. K.
  13. Hi Adam, As a start I suggest that You remove one of the two batteries on the Penelope, with one battery You will get plenty enough of running time, and better yet, if You have the 12 volts 4 pins XLR power cable for the Zephyr then remove the other battery too and power the camera from your sled's battery, that way it will be much easier to balance the rig and there's even a chance that You are not going to be overloading it at all. (I don't know the exact numbers for the Penelope without batteries and for the Zephyr but on my PRO removing one of the two batteries of the Penelope is one of my simple pleasures, but I don't remove both as I would consider it pure laziness... also I am always aiming at a preferred camera weight and too light is too light) Enjoy shooting on film! K.
  14. By witnessing your horrible attitude here it seems to me that that's actually a good thing!
  15. Hi all, I am looking for a TB-6 or PRO monitor in good shape as a back-up. I know many of you guys are going the LCD way with Transvideos and Cinetronics so let me know if you want to find a new home for your CRT. Please contact me thru the forum's Private Messages or using my e-mail address, that you can find in my signature here below. Thanks in advance. K.
