  1. Assist from George Paddock? I gave Mark your number, dude.
  2. Having a scale for Steadicam would be the true end. If you give them the lowest denominator, they will insist on it. At least now you can say no with true justifcation. The offer, David, was some form of weekly 1st year of a TV show, which airs on a Tueaday, but not on odd days, scale. The amount is not the point. There has to be some recocnition from the producers of the extra skill and effort involved in operating a Steadicam. It's not woth puting up with without it. And as more people say yes to this, then that will be the end of it too. We do need to stick together on this and stand firm. We also need the support of the DP's. They need to stand up for the people they want to work with. And like Charles has said I too have found myself making more than the DP on some television shows. This may breed a certain form of resentment which has led them to say to production "you find someone"
  3. Keith, I was offered the same job and passed as well. I'm sure they will find some asshole to do it. Maybe we all will be lucky enough to meet that person some day.
  4. MAZELTOV! Will she be named Nexus? Soon you will be even more tired than when I saw you shortly after Cinegear (is it possible?) You will be hoping for a 6 day week location job so you can get some rest. Best to both of you.
  5. Will, nice technical explanation regarding the Antlers. I've got one and never considered using it that way. Very useful info. Thanks. And good work on The Missing. Russell told me what a tough time it was.
  6. Come to think about it I did get a Cine Gear related solicitation for a product that would give me a longer and thicker Post. Over 3 times longer and with 25% more girth. Made from 100 % natural carbon fibers. I'm considering it.
  7. Dear Michael, I got the same solicitation in the mail and I can't say I was as upset as you. Just another piece of junk mail to toss in the circular file. Easier to do than sifting through some of the "junk" posts here. Believe me when I say I don't want my info sold to 3rd parties, but wasn't DV magazine an exhibitor at Cine Gear? I think they were and as such they receive a complete mailing list of all attendees which they are free to do with as they wish. Maybe when I get offers for penile enlargment and lower mortgage rates addressed to: freelance camera operator I'll change my tune.
  8. I'd probably just walk backwards on the left to right cross (rig out in front of my chest with the stage to my right) Odds are you would pause at your end spot and reverse the move a few cuts later. There's plenty of reference ,ie the stage, so you know where you are at all times while backing up. And you have a utility person wrangling cable to keep you from stepping on audience members if you stray. Which leads me to Buster's question. I have always been hardwired to the truck on these "live" events. The sports guys (think Olympics/Marathon) are usually the ones transmitting. Peter might know.
  9. Yeah, their customer service is quite lame. They copped some serious attitude when I questioned why that info was not included with the manual. Had it for about a year and while I don't do a whole lot of video I could not imagine doing it without one. Only had a zoom drift once. I did replace the screw with plastic knob on the gimbal handle with an allen head bolt. Uses the same wrench as the rest of the sled and it keeps the stanton control from shifting once you find the comfortable position.
  10. In Portland I would suggest a trip to Powell's Book Store, possibly the US's largest. Square block or 2. The Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle is not too be missed. If you have 6 months to kill you could try visiting every Starbucks in those cities.
  11. I had the same problem once. There is an adjustment pot located just above the zoom rocker button. Remove the 5/64 Allen Screw. Under it is the internal pot. Insert a plastic screwdriver. Turn it one way or the other until the zoom stops creeping. This will nil out the offset. Careful putting the allen screw back. If you go too far it may fall in. Stanton has a manual page devoted to this exact situation which they no longer feel they need to include with your payment of $1900??????
  12. feel free to grab the moving hand rail for a moment during transition if it is possible.
  13. Guys, this is supposed to be a "equipment classified" thread. Perhaps you could move this discussion over to the "useless bulshit for those who have nothing better to do" thread. (which I am afraid has become most of what is posted on this forum lately) Even Phil has gotten tired of it.
  14. If you leave the recorder at engineering and run fiber optic to the camera from there (since I have always been tethered to the big monitor when using the current generation of cameras) this camera will be a dream to fly. No longer will we be sadled with those HUGE HD zooms Panavision supplies and 3 feet of camera behind. Regular Primos + 13.5lbs sound pretty sweet to me. And with the fiber optic connection may come down-converted video for your monitor. Yes, still that awful strobing while looking through the viewfinder. Sadly, that's what comes with 24p.
  15. I believe you have to upload the picture on the web somewhere and then copy the URL onto a post here. Either the picture will come up or a link to it.
  16. Gee, my I-9 expired in 1992. Maybe that's why things have been slow lately.
  17. Howard, what activates the tally light? How much does it weigh?
  18. Mark Moore will be the op on it. Understand the script is more of the same. Couple of weeks out at tne desert and the rest st Universal. I may do some day playing on it and would be happy to have you come by if possible. Will keep you posted.
  19. Michael, if it is DSD vest then yes it should mostly ride on your hips, with a slight amount of tension on the shoulder straps to stabilize the vest. At least this is what works for me. The front mounted vests I had before were more of an even distribution between hips and shoulders. Your Steadicam arm should take out the bounce in your walk. Perhaps you should loosen your grip on the gymbal or allow your gimbal arm to float up and down a bit more. This reminds me of a joke: An old woman walks into a drug store and asks the pharmacist (think Jewish accent) "My husband has terrible dandruff, what should I give him?" He says "Give him Head and Shoulders". She says 'So, how do you give shoulders?"
  20. Fred, as usual, you rock. Guys, thanks for the warning, I was thinking of using it for prompter power but will go another route.
  21. Can anyone tell me the pin outs on the 12v Hirose output conector found on most Sony broadcast cameras? Is it a female or male? As I recall it is a 4-pin. Thanks in advance, Lawrence
  22. I looked at the Panasonic D-snap camera at Circuit City. Unfortuantely the display model did not have a memory card and I could not work through the record controls. It sure was light as a feather. Didn't seem like the monitor would rotate in a Steadicam user friendly position to be practical, at least in the way I would mount it to my PRO 2 sled. Also 20 minutes of MPEG 2 recording time did not seem like anywhere near enough. I believe it had an A/V input plug. Didn't even consider battery draw.
  23. you could buy a programable digital level from XCS (www.xcsinc.com) which would plug into the monitor out connector on the PRO 2 sled and then into your monitor. I'm sure Greg can add the proper connector for your Master monitor.
