  1. Thought this was a cool open with Neil Patrick Harris, mostly a one'r on steadicam starts at about a minute in. Nice job mr John Perry, your horizon is sick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKZsve7S8GA Found some behind scenes footage too: http://youtu.be/aGfKFuj1c-U Now i'm going to go practice ;) CE
  2. I went to the fox website and found this behind the scenes video clip, but it wasn't very informative about the operating. http://www.fox.com/dance/clips/tags/behind_the_scenes/35135043855
  3. Are you kidding me with this shot!!!!! Unreal. First of all, great job on it, but secondly I love that the director had the balls to do that. 3 minutes live without a cut on one of the best dance shows on television, amazing. Anyone know specifics about this shot? https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CeHPCQRvcw4#at=168 I've watched it 10 times already. What's up with the guy in the gorilla suit? CE
  4. Anybody catch the "oner" tonight on American Idol? Paula Abduls "Straight Up", first song out of the gate at the top of the show, all on Steadicam, no cuts, and live. Cannot imagine the pressure. How do you live guys get so good at pulling your own focus and zooming at the same time. Awesome lens work. Kudos to John Perry! CE
  5. Hi John, You got a nice shout out on air tonight by the host! Nice work, that was a very long shot. Can't wait to see it in person next week with the Atlas in action! I'm bringing my checkbook. Thanks again for the invite. CE
  6. Wow, thanks for the offer John. That could be fun, but if all you guys show up I will have to rent a catering truck! I will give you a call to see what we can set up. An Atlas arm with a Phantom sled...interesting combo! Andrew thanks for your feedback also. I've been hearing the same things from other users. It will be a hard decision indeed, but i'm tring to scrape up some extra cash. CE
  7. I will be in LA next week Aug 28-30 and would love to demo an Atlas arm while i'm there. Will any of you atlas owner guys be around those days? I will come to where ever you are. Drinks and dinner are on me! CE
  8. Thanks again everyone for the insight so I can make an informed decision. The good low prices on used G50's is making it a difficult choice. John I thought you only demo'd the Atlas, I didn't know you bought one, so that says a lot. One last question for the guys who bought it..did you also buy gray springs or did you just use the blues and blacks that you already owned. Alec i see your point about not having gray springs, but since most of what I fly are lighter weight cameras, I think 2 grays with a 45 pound capacity should cover everything for me (except 3D). Like you said John I could keep my EFP arm for those occasional heavy cameras, then everything will be covered. So what springs are you guys using with the Atlas? CE
  9. Thanks for the replies. Yes I am well aware of Pro's excellent reputation. Eric and Robert, did you guys actually buy an atlas arm or did you just demo it? If you did not buy one, why not? CE
  10. Hello forum, I'm in the market for a different arm (I currently have a used efp) and never could afford a big pro arm or a G70. My efp arm looks like it's been through a lot and has some "rough" spots in it, and so I think it's about time for a change. I could get a used G50, which i see several for sale here at really good prices, but with the Atlas's new price under $12k it might be a good affordable option to get me started in the pro line. Most of my shoots are for regional tv with lighter cameras that, based on the weight chart, I think the atlas arm can handle like the Varicam, an occasional alexa, red one and red epic, and lots of live broadcast cameras. I've already tried out a G50, but now I wanted to hear from some people who actually own and have used the Atlas alot. It's one thing to demo it for a few minutes, but has it been tested over time yet? I'd like to hear from actual atlas owners on how it really handles, and if I would see a big difference from the efp arm to the pro atlas arm, or any other strengths or weaknesses I should know of. So speak up...Who out there actually owns one and can give some insight? Feel free to PM me if you dont want it public..just trying to get some good inside info before I make a decision. Thanks to all, CE
  11. Thanks for the advice Mark. I'm mostly concerned if the EFP can hold the weight of a fully loaded Alexa or RED One. I've seen the efp training video, and the rig is in good shape for the price (everything is under 10 thousand dollars) and includes just about everything except a zoom focus device. I would love to get my hands on a Stanton handle since thats what the top tv guys use but I called Jimmy Jib and they dont make them anymore. Hopefully I can find a used one.
  12. Hello forum...I mostly do small time shoots for regional television using a company owned crappy glidecam, but I know of a used Steadicam EFP for sale at a decent price and was thinking of going for it. Anybody have pros or cons of using an EFP rig for tv shoots? Will this sled support a Alexa camera if it comes up? CE
  13. Just watched the Miss USA pageant from NBC last night. John Perry kicked ass once again! Loved the 360 bikini butt shots ;) John did you use the new Pro arm Atlas on this one? Wireless or tethered? CE
  14. Don't forget about Frank Rush too, they are all awesome! Hey Rob, for the Oscars are you doing the red carpet show for E? How many steadicams are they using and what model are the rigs? CE
  15. I saw some fantastic operating on tonights American Idol during the Vegas rounds. Does anyone know what kind of zoom/focus control John Perry uses? His control of the lens's focal length within a move is amazing, which is one thing i'm trying to work on. I've tried the gimbal mounted G-zoom but it's hard to hold my index finger on the focus knob for any length of time because it's too far from the zoom rocker and my hand cramps up. Are there any other zoom/focus options for live tv guys? CE
