Great reliable versatile wireless HD package with lots of accessories and backups.
This model is no longer produced but is still supported by Teradek. This is the latest model before they dropped this product line "replacing" it with the expensive, big, and heavy 4K line.
This 3000XT has been my personal setup for a couple of years, and was not sub-rented or loaned out. It all functions great as of the last job I used it on about a month ago.

    Sale includes:

    Bolt 3000XT TRANSMITTER HD-SDI w/mounting bracket
Bolt 3000XT RECEIVER Anton/Bauer Gold Mount w/antenna ARRAY PANEL

  3. "Given the aforementioned circumstances Chris, I find this a little hard to believe. Can you show some sort of working proof or photos of this alleged Epic run/stop cable of yours. If it works, I'll buy one. But given that the geniuses at Preston and C-motion can't devise a solution, please understand my skepticism."

In response to Richard James Lewis's comment quoted above, I can personally vouch for Chris Konash....

Chris made me a custom RED Epic/Scarlet cable that was EXACTLY what I ordered, delivered expeditiously, and works perfectly. I found him to be technically-knowledgable and very understanding of our crazy schedules. +1

  4. I bought the Shotsaver Steadi-dolly from Backstage, Inc. North Hollywood, Ca. Most versatile rig for variety of shooting situations. Works as a rickshaw, or dolly! Frame narrows for doorways or widens for stability. Interchangeable wheels for maneuverability, 20" wheels to go fast, balloon tires for sand or grass (I did a commercial on golf course rolling directly on the Green!) You can mount the rig and ride or use standing platform for step-offs. Shotsaver builds and breaks-down quickly and basic dolly fits into a Tuff-Bin trunk size case for shipping.

I've spent around $5,600.for everything w/ their Garfield mount. (except 20" wheels), I plan to get those next.

    Randy Nolen

I second everything that Randy said above—one of the best/most versatile tools in my kit. It's a really smart design, and with Backstage's stellar customer service that has been supporting me for years. I've also used it for crazy handheld shooting for running/chase sequences. It's great!

    P.S. Vote for Ron Baldwin

  5. Hey Alec, not that you can ever rely on this, but I thought most Epic/Scarlet cameras came from the rental houses with this breakout cable as a standard item? Or perhaps in lieu of another standard item for 30+ years, a leveling eyepiece?

I think I'm going to buy a 2nd cable, although a different version that doesn't require the breakout cable. I love how RED has again deviated from it's own non-standard. Good call guys!

  6. I've been successfully using Preston's Epic/Scarlet run/stop cable connected to the white BNC on the RED medusa-cable plugged into the SYNC port. Make sure you have the RED's menus setup correctly for the port to function as desired. The negative of this setup is that I am reliant on having an Epic BNC medusa-cable, and there are a crap-ton of extra cable bits to dress on the rig. Positive is that it doesn't eat up the port for other things, like wearing a clock-it full-time (as we have discovered we need to if we want to keep time-code).

  7. I'd like to hike it in a day, later in the summer when the snow is gone. I've hiked it twice, once with Mr. Baldwin, and we took a ton of gear and it was three days of slogging though the snow, post-holing most of the way—amazing workout! Apparently (this is a bit of a gamble) you can usually get multi-day permits the day-of at the ranger station on non-holiday weekends because of no-shows and cancelations. I'd be up for either, but hiking it lightweight in a day is appealing as it would be new and different. I know Tom has done both. It's about a 22-mile round-trip with over 6K in elevation change. It's a beautiful hike the whole way.

Tom and I have also been talking about Kilimanjaro, but we've never gotten it together—anyone else interested?

  8. anybody knows where Erwin got his newer "red monster" cart made?

    Thx

If you want to build Erwin's "Case Cart" I have the only other inner frame frame built

Have you built this one Eric? I'd like to see it in person. Last time I talked with Erwin he was not happy with this cart-version either. Shipped it once and as soon as a case got a little bent he said it would not fit together properly. Also said he spent a small fortune on it. Of course Erwin never goes small on this stuff!

  9. I have one of the original 5 prototypes of this cart that Erwin/Backstage designed. I love mine and it's held up well over 7+ years of shipping and truck ratchet-strap abuse. It almost always gets ogling and positive comments from ACs, sound guys, and VTR–it just does what it does well. I will say that one of the best things about this cart is the service behind it.

Backstage is AWESOME. Sig, Manolo, and their guys are great, and to this day if I wanted to change/fix something on this cart, or anything else that Backstage makes, they would happily accommodate, and that includes major changes that require welding and re-painting, etc. Can't say enough good things about having that kind of custom support. And they will make/modify it to your needs/liking before delivery. Say you didn't want that "shin-buster Ron Baldwin-style" handle on it. No problem, just tell them and they'll make you one without, or perhaps in a different style. Also worth mentioning, the Backstage design easily allows a custom shelf height/spacing. For example I have my top shelf just hight set enough above my lower shelf so that I can stack two 1650 Pelican cases on the bottom self. Will Arnot has (or had, he was one of the original 5) this cart, and being a tall fellow, he set a tall man's comfortable shelf height. Easy to do and easy to change.

FYI, mine is 130lbs. shipping weight, still within the realm of FedEx and UPS.

    Cheers,

    Matt

  10. 10 weeks on mine, starting yesterday.

    :-(

Check in regularly, they often get parts completed faster then expected. Also they may be ready to ship everything in a few weeks, excepting a DM-2 motor or something... obviously not a complete setup if that was included in your order, but you could get started, or get a DM-1x and DM-4, etc. Just depends what they are behind on.

  11. Here's something to think about. You aren't buying a follow focus for yourself, your buying it for your focus puller.

Ask the 1st's that you work with and see what they think, my guess is that they are going to say Preston.

I'd also add that you in live in LA, where the Preston is made. Howard and the gang have always been amazingly supportive to me and everyone else I know. Useful.

I personally love my HU3 (or I should say my ACs do since I never touch it).

In addition, if your jobs are anything like the ones I'm on in NY, there are usually two other Preston HU3 set-ups on set. Its great being able to mix & match parts. Frequently, my hand unit is not even used as I leave my MDR & motors on the Steadicam so when we go to Steadicam we just use the A/B Camera hand unit.

    YES and YES!

And I don't think it's a four-month lead time now, maybe four weeks, but call Preston, and if you are needing something quickly they can probably figure something out. And I'll add that while there are some ACs who may still prefer the HU2, the majority of ACs I work and talk with now like the HU3, it's been out for years, has proven itself, and they prefer it.

    My 2¢,

    Matt

  12. Your kit Is not a box rental. Box rental items are items that individuals bring to set that are under their sole control. Things like ads laptops etc. your kit is camera gear that is under the use and control of many hence the need for a coi

    Bryan,

Production will do waivers of "those rules" for the Steadicam & Sound Mixer for the reasons Eric said. Just ask.

YES!!! What Eric and Alec said:

Steadicam is simply NOT A BOX RENTAL. This distinction is an important one.

  13. Hey Walter!

Call Charlie at Master Cases. He has all the CAD drawings for Preston and other gear. He will do Pelicans or hard cases. It's really easy, just tell him what you have and he sets up the foam for it. Really nice foam work with hard and soft foam in all the right places and gorgeous routed edges and workmanship. Best of all he's very affordable!

818-896-9333. They open early and close about 4p PST. Ask for Charlie or Enrique.

    Highly recommended!

    Robert

Um yeah, what these guys said.

Charlie, Enrique, and Master Cases are the best -- best work, best service, and very fair pricing. I used to use other companies -- now no reason to for the many years that I've been using Master Cases. Tell them one of us recommended you--they have a ton of work and don't generally take cold-calls.

    Best,

    Matt

  14. Sal (who used to work for Otto & is now on his own) machined a very nice plate for Alexa that Otto provides. I wonder if he is able to make that now, or maybe the design belongs to Otto.

Matthias's plate looks interesting,as does the other one shown.

Matthias, I'd be interested in a plate,as yours seems lighter & shorter than the rest, which are 2 good things in my book. I have your original small plate, but it scares me with the codex on the back.

Can you confirm Janice's question about the kipp handle. Is it possible to make the bottom flat?

Thanks for your relentless R&D on this kind of stuff. It's very cool of you.

Mark, yes, Sal does as discussed in this thread (discusses a lot of mounting options). I own one of Sal's plates and a Baer-Bel CamTec plate. I like both of these independent options/solutions for two reasons: they are both dovetailed for a PRO DB, giving maximum fore-aft travel (front and back heavy cameras would both fly well) with the absolute lowest hight possible for mounting an Alexa (no height increase from stacking multiple plates, riser block, etc.) Second, like Matthias' plate, they both secure the Alexa at two mounting points, which most have found essential for stability and vibration elimination.

Folks, I know these plates are expensive, but the Alexa is (thankfully) here for awhile, and thankfully folks like Matthias, Sal, Greg, Markus, etc. have spent the time, energy, and money to give us not only solutions, but various quality options to fit our differing needs, likes, and demands. Cheers!

  15. Just unpacked my Fed Ex. post-306-0-98134900-1329366134_thumb.jpgIt basically is a male BNC. Another genius idea from Red. Like Tom said, there is a 0B 4p Lemo out of the Epic body that breaks out to 3 female BNC connectors. One of them being the on/off.

Nothing like having 1 small box that requires 4 other (at least) boxes to be attached to it to make it work. And the cables that are then relied on to connect those peripherals are always 100% reliable.

    CLASSIC!!!

  16. Update: I forgot to list that the turn-key Preston setup also comes with it's own:

    Pelican 1550 w/padded dividers

This really is a ready-to-go-and-shoot steadicam Preston system.

Also I took it to Preston to have them give it their blessing and confirm that all software and updates are current for this system. I'll see if I can get documentation from them, but anyone is welcome to call Preston for verification. This is a rock-solid working system that I am only selling because I need some of the features that the newer system has.

Also of note, in the photos above, both the DM-1 & DM-2 have the fat .5" gears, the system I'm selling actually has the normal .25" gears on both motors.

    Thanks,

    Matt
