  1. Hi all; 2) 4 pin xlr to 4 pin lemo cables for canatrans power 2) 3 pin xlr to 4 pin lemo cables for canatrans power 1) hirose to 4 pin lemo cable for canatrans power (forgotten what used the hirose) 1) like new gorlock docking bracket 1.5 in center post. Works fine. I took it apart years ago to do something, of course didn't get back to it and here it sits. The blue spud fits on a typical stand. It's been ages so you have to figure out if it's missing something. Taking any offers, after a week or two highest offers get them. Buyer pays shipping. Thanks, Janice
  2. Hi all; I see on Facebook we have lost another of the original greats of Steadicam, Derrick Whitehouse. Derrick worked at Cinema Products in the early days of Steadicam; I'm sure made them, repaired them and probably was responsible for many parts and certainly helped get it all going. After he left CP he bought a lot of their old inventory and also was a reseller of rigs for operators and those he owned. Nice man and always willing to help with a question or a part. He was a big help to us all over the decades. RIP Derrick. Janice
  3. Hi all; I just found Kubox.com. Fed ex has them and while not cheap are substantial, reuseable, heavy duty boxes that I see could be bought as needed and they store flat. I could see a spare one available instantly when needed. Janice.
  4. Hi all; Back to the top, had a deal then the buyer chases another vest but doesn't have the courtesy to let me know. Wonderful for them. Please, if you're going to buy something be courteous. Janice Love to sell it ASAP.
  5. Charles; Welcome and look into the archives, this question has been asked and answered scores of times. Take a workshop, week long ones are best. Figure out who the major manufacturers are and look them up on websites. I'm sure you don't have the money to invest in the rig you really want, none of us did, so we did what you are doing, we took baby steps. Start with a workshop and the Steadicam op handbook. Good luck. Janice
  6. Hi all; Here is a refurbished vest. Sound condition, new pads, new straps and Velcro. New hardware wherever it needed it. Full-sized socket block and previous owner put in some new plastic and took off the breakaway safety feature. Its a good vest and has the pull forward tightening feature on the right side which means you can tighten it much snugger to your middle much easier than with the original Velcro. It will fit lots of body sizes and has many options for sizing. Like to sell it in the US. $1400.00 buyer pays shipping and insurance. Janice Steadijan(at)Hotmail.com or PM me. we need to talk at some point if you're interested.
  7. Chris; Sure you can do all that but what you're really left with is a post, a few cables and a gimbal. Sometimes it's just not worth it. I'd start with a new post of some sort with HD wiring already in it, then put all the rest together as you get money and parts, new or used. When you're done you'd have a pretty darn new sled instead of a revamped old/older one. Good luck. Janice
  8. My guess is that this is a railroad bridge and they won't allocate money (probably a lot) to change the height substantially (involves grading ahead and after etc.; all of which makes this tiny little bridge expensive and so signage is simpler solution. The truck damage isn't on their dime, hey we put up lots of signs!! It's inspected as needed and because it keeps meeting structural measures it stays!! All those rental truck/RV crashes are novices who don't read the signs. Amazing video. (I live near two similar situations and semis coming off an expressway find the bridge at the bottom unmakable so more than weekly one gets pealed back and stuck.) Janice
  9. Hi all; I found this a handy fix for a fastex buckle at the local outdoor store.
  10. Beau; It's whomever you can get to pay, sometimes they fink out and won't pay then it's your insurance. Maybe you can get them to cover lost wages but really really unlikely. So yes you can have lost wage insurance but do you want to pay for it? Just like if your store caught on fire you're out of business tomorrow til it gets fixed. No definitive answers and this thread is getting twisted, let's go back to its title. Also a seldom occurring event so that's another factor. Janice
  11. Hi all; As I finally look to upgrade the 4k cameras seem to have HD-SDI outputs. So my question is, any compatibility issues with current LCD monitors and 4k cameras? Like everyone when I finally make a purchase I'm trying to avoid it being obsolete soon. Janice
  12. Mark; Since you haven't taken a workshop and know how they work you'll have to rely on instincts on how to teach. 1) make an outline so you stay on track on what you want to cover and don't loose track of both time and topics you want to cover. 2) practice describing things because saying it to someone else is different when you have to say it. 3) allow time to go back over things you see need clarified (when you screw up saying it the first time). 4) showing a lot of videos is not the best way to go so keep them little or none at all. Good luck. Janice
  13. Sam; Take a break. If there is input on your subject it will happen, or right here. You maybe doing your own cause harm by the dialogue that is on-going. Good luck and as they say in Frozen "let it go" for a while Janice
  14. Sam; So far your topic is of interest to some people, get more interest. Whether it turns into a topic who knows. To throw up your hands at its futility is up to you. Maybe you're trying to get more responses or truly done I'm not sure. I wish you well with your project but it's time for further discussion not just a sub heading as the answer. Step back for a moment, you've put so much personal investment in this maybe you're missing some stuff. We only wish you success and having a separate forum is not the only path to input and help. You're a smart man, look at many options and come to this idea of yours in many ways. Janice
  15. Kris; As I thought of my list, what it could be very useful for and a lot of cool shots is aboard ship. Shoot like mad; then pop it off to a chaise lounge, no stand, remove the camera with a quick release shoot a bunch and come back when needed. The pilot is perfect, especially with the changes you've made. Good luck. Janice
  16. Kris; The pilot is a good choice but here is what I think will be the issues. 1) no way to go "handheld" quickly with the rest of the gear just laying somewhere I unattended. Obviously no docking stand handy to get access to because he has no help. 2) vest is going to get really hot really fast, maybe even take out most of the pads and even make it like a drum base vest that can be lifted off the shoulders when needed 3) no way to deal with lens changes because hands are already busy or a small backpack of gear is just too much over the steadicam vest 4) personally some very simple mono pod into to camera and grabbing post at the CG offers both smoother shots and it can extend to become a makeshift tripod on demand. Backpack of small parts and batteries and other parts can then be worn. 5) focus easier because lots of bright sun 6) make sure someone conforms the steadicam monitor to the camera output or exposure off the pilot will make for doubt and constant checking and a big distraction when shooting. I'm sure I'm missing some details to get him some more practice and make better shots; no help in a constant shooting environment makes this very hard. Can some shipboard helper attend and then he can easy switch between equipment and not be an island without help? Maybe in exchange he can teach the helper steadicam? Janice
  17. Bruce; Good info to know; I didn't expect Steadicam to be able to have input in post. Thanks and I just figured everyone just had their video assist and the final product to compare, nothing so good as the edit stations. Your work is amazing. Janice
  18. Hi all; When I go to the theater I'm just astounded at how perfect every shot is. They're precise and perfect almost without fail. I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken their video assist copy of a shot and split screened it with the final version? It's just amazing to me that the filmmaking/image capture has progressed so far. Simple or complex shots; crane, tripod, dolly, steadicam are so perfect I'm just in disbelief, at how good they are. It's a tribute to everyone's skills. Janice
  19. Sam; Round up support and talk to Tim Tyler. Good Luck. Janice
  20. Sam; Cinematography.com seems to be the place and maybe it can be developed into its own subcategory? Maybe an opportunity for you to start a forum and be the hands down expert in the field of at least be the place where everyone goes. Manufacturers, etc will pay for some level of a support forum if you can attract the interest in this tremendously growing field. Lastly maybe paired with drones it could have a wide enough reach? Nothing happens overnight but finding a niche could work in ways you never see coming? Janice
  21. Tony; I don't know any of that and I hope you have a relationship with a CPA already. Being a few days before April 15 and with all CPAs swamped right now I'm not sure how many good ones would take your call now? Good luck and start with IRS.gov with questions or Google too? Janice
  22. Hi all; Brett and the others are correct it used to be the norm to have a system. Now it's about the dexterity to work with whatever you're presented with. Yes now lots of options exist and as brett and others have said they just want It all to seemlessly work with whomever is getting the rental. Now it's about the dexerity to deal with those options and important point DONT SLOW DOWN PRODUCTION while you do it. So hence the topic each as trying figure out what they should/must buy to make production happy. Janice
  23. I'd go with Alec, best to have one. My concerns; 1) Can "their" system hang off the camera and not make my setup crazy (crazier)? 2) if their MDR has to sit on my rig do I have the bracket for it and is it easy to attach? 3). In a situation where it won't sit on the camera and it's suddenly on my system do I have a power cable to power it off my rig, rental units usually don't. So now do I have to have lots of different power cables for the various systems I might encounter? 4). At some point in your career the stress moment (pucker moment) is just not worth that and I'd rather have my own system if none of that other stuff works for me in the time they give me to set up and walk on. This especially applies to the day player, who isn't there in the set up and knows all the exact details and may be on the bubble to gain their confidence. 5) can you conjole the AC who is worried about his/her butt to make changes for you? Seldom do I find they will. They are looking out for their own interests and if it takes time to reconfigure from you and it makes them appear slower then they will opt for themselves. Sorry just an observation, not a slam. I've talked to many ops over the years who don't have a system and want to rent one for an upcoming job and I ask about powering it off the rig and of course rental houses never have cable and then question of powering FF off camera and they may or may not know or have to ask. Now logically they should buy the $200 cable and have it shipped in overnight but that kills their day rate for a one day job and it shows up at 10:30 am; they're four letter word, screwed. All considerations not many want to pay for. It's also a fire drill the day before and it kills/impairs whether they can just say yes to a job that calls. Can you work tomorrow? XYZ info, perfect, I've got all the stuff, where do you need me? My motto for decades, "if FF isn't working neither am i". Buy a system of some sort when your shoots start getting important on your career path. Janice
