This system maybe universal, for whatever DSLR bodies may come in the future, but it certainly isn't the most elegant solution. I've worked extensively with the cage from Viewfactor.
This is cage is what makes a DSLR camera "production" ready and puts a box around the peg that a Camera Department can work with (Lemo power). Also it balances really well on a steadicam!
