  1. You can get a pop rivet gun at Home Depot...an easy fix. They also have the replacement clasp (it's a flush mount picture hanger -- $2). Broke one back in the day and Cinema Products charged me $40...for the identical clasp I later found at Home Depot
  2. That tube of Lisigav lasted me my whole career...which was over years ago
  3. I took it the same way Janice did and I would have said the same thing. I don't think I have heard of anyone here having chest pains from steadicam (especially one that light) but I may be, and most often am, wrong. I only tried a pilot once and after schlepping a typical rig for so many years it was so light (lighter than some of my winter jackets) that I hardly knew it was there. Not sure the vest was able to be cranked tight enough to hurt my ribs. Once the problem is diagnosed maybe try loosening the vest straps?
  4. Tell your doc that you basically work on a construction site, carrying heavy stuff, climbing ladders, on your feet all day, long hours etc... Helped get my doc in at least the same ballpark and he added an extra week of recovery
  5. Alec, glad you use non-flammable lube -- the "after" cigarette would just not be the same while on fire
  6. It is bad enough undercutting guys one doesn't know (or take a few minutes to contact) but to knowingly do this to guys in this community is sad. The producers will just laughing at you...and pocket the change while you not only work for peanuts but also piss off the other ops who you will need to save your butt one day. Transparency and communication is key -- and since it's so easy to do both today it really shows ignorance or bad character when his happens
  7. Yup...she makes nice stuff. Wasn't aware she sold them herself
  8. Every time I see pics like that last one I get a sick feeling in my stomach.
  9. Have you seen the prices of used arms?! Do you really think you can simply copy the design, and cover all the materials with some trial and error in there for less? just buy right the first time and you are done and flying right away.
  10. Do you have any pictures of this being used? can't quite wrap my head around how it would work. Seems very interesting though.
  11. Alec has raised this point many times...one cannot stress the importance of posting here vs Facebook enough. Sometimes it is maybe more convenient or quicker to just post up on fb but there it is temporary...here it is archived and can always be accessed. Now that I got that off my chest, I am going to log onto fb and troll the steadicam group
  12. Tim Moynahan is here on the forum and his company Rock Steady Gear makes the same stuff and will get it to you in half the time Modular51 will take
  13. Just hit "new content" and it brought me here. Communication is our business...not our policy
  14. I think Terry West still has one of those sleds in his garage? Motor in the bottom, driveshaft runs through post to camera. Good times! Nice Charles!
  15. Alex -- the pad support helps so much, but even with it I occasionally remove the camera (like the last pic I posted), then it is pretty bullet proof and can really take a beating. 25+ lbs vibrating on the top really wreaks havoc on newer sleds. I was not as concerned with this when I had my pro1 (daddy misses you) as the post went straight to the dbox and there were no threads to destroy. Bigger tires can smooth out the ride but like I said, if it's a rough ride I always take it off and carry it. Cheap insurance. Sandro -- the cart is a modded backstage shot saver dolly (I actually bought it from Alex!) that I can use as a cart or transform into a rickshaw/camera platform. It is almost the same footprint as a Yeager Jr for size comparisons. I am not in the manufacturing biz but can send you info/pics so you can make your own.
  16. Wasn't sure if you were talking about the Fracol foot/landing pad or the pad attached to the docking post that the whole rig sits on. If it's the latter I made it out of some grip parts I had sitting around in my garage. That and the Fracol attachment save my gear me thinks
  17. Thanks for the heads up about this James. Will investigate further. Here is a picture for this interested:
  18. They make some solid stuff, that's for sure . Looks like their dock ring merely replaces the stock pro one right? It is really cool but how does this strengthen the threads?
  19. Sorry to hear about your sled. That is exactly what I am afraid of. Even when one is careful there is a good deal of vibration getting to the rig. I always lower the sled onto a pad to move it. If it's gonna be a bumpy ride I just pop the camera off (or carry the sled) so there isn't 30 lbs of torque beating the poop outta the threads. The little platform I made can attach to the stand when I use it+wheels so there is a smoother ride there also.
  20. NY is definitely tough on all gear...but the cobblestone incident was courtesy of a clueless assistant at Greystone Mansion in LA. If it was with a newer pro docked via the post locking collar me thinks serious damage might have been caused. I feel far more comfy knowing the rig is safe and stupid-proof on a nice cushy cart
