  4. Hey, I got a shooting coming up in 5 days with the Alexa XT, it's my first time to fly an Alexa XT on my zephyr and I'm a bit worried. I will receive the 2nd battery hanger, the steady-Alexa plate and the 24V cable in a couple of days. The setup will include the camera, an Arri Master Prime Lens and a bartech wireless follow focus. Anyone has a previous experience with this cam on this rig? Will I be able to fly it in Low mode (hips level) or no chance? I'm planning to power up the Bartech from the sled also. Any advice is much appreciated. Many Thanks, Christopher

  15. Hi Guys n Gals, I have previously been using a hdge n podge glidecam for a fair while to reasonable success for my own things and then moved onto a 1st gen Steadicam Flyer. I have now got myself a Steadicam Zephyr and I am keen to increase my skills. I have the Steadicam operators hand book, read it through a bunch, don't do enough practice as I might. So I am keen to improve but want to aslo do it the most efficent way possible. Not trying to be lazy but I just don't have a lot of spare time. I love doing steadicam, I don't aim to be a steadicam op for other peoples productions, really just my own. My day job is I run a small production company in Sydney with a few employees. We mainly make corporate videos and TVCs. Last year in colaboration with some industry friends we made our first feature and we are keen to do more. This is what I'd like to be able to be a decent steadicam op for, our own low budget features. Most often the feedback I see is to do a workshop. I'd love to, thing is after speaking to Brett from Tiffen I get the impression that there is not much chance of a workshop in Sydney. So... 1. I bumped into a Steadicam Op at Lemac recently and got chatting. Is it a good Idea to hire some one like him to come and give a day lesson? Is there any pitfalls with that idea that I havent thought of & how do you determine who will be good at teaching you? 2. Are there any workshops going on in Sydney that I have not found yet that you peeps know about? 3. Any tips for improving other than Workshops, The hand book, and keep practicing? What I currently have trouble with: Offten I have a slight side to side wobble trying to keep the frame centered. Getting dynamic ballance I find very frustrating and some times elusive. A sense that I could be set up better/I am making simple mistakes I am unawear of. I feel that the glidecam route of learning has imbued me with bad habbits or areas of miss information. Any advice is appreciated. I have read through alot of post on this forum so happy to be pointed in the direction of something I have missed. Nat J

  17. Hey everyone, I am new to this arena. I just want to establish that. I tend to ask a lot of questions, sometimes annoying questions about obvious things. These questions may seem obvious to a seasoned operator but this is how I learn, by asking dumb questions. Like this: How does an unestablished operator become a better operator? I thought this meant purchasing a smaller, affordable rig like a Pilot or Scout to practice with? I don't mean to purchase such a rig and then go directly to work on big shows. But that is what it seems like. This is a professional's forum and I appreciate being welcome to interact with all of the seasoned pros in this wonderful community. But how am I supposed to learn from you without asking obvious questions? To be taken seriously and not damage my fragile reputation, do I need to take out a loan from the bank and spend $30K - $50K on a real rig like the Ultra 2 or MK1?? Even though I have no experience whatsoever? That is the vibe I seem to be getting. When I mention the Pilot or Zephyr, if I sound like an amateur, it is because I am just that. I am just getting started on union shows as a grip trying to make a living and support my daughter. The Steadicam dream is very real for me but I am a little confused about how to approach these matters without seeming amateurish? Yes, I plan on taking a workshop. Yes, I know this is professional gear and the gear is a tool in which we use to perform a craft, so it must be the right tool. But I have to start somewhere, right? I have been reading a lot of posts for about a month now, and most of the what I am reading is buy a real rig, even though you have no experience operating. So I am supposed to invest $30K - $50K on a tool of which I have no experience to even be taken seriously on this forum? I am just trying to get to know you all better. Please forgive me for asking dumb questions. This is how I learn from you. : )
  18. Hello guys! I am selling my beloved Zephyr. I'm a cinematographer based in Berlin, Germany. I tried to learn the craft for one year but realized that I just don't have the time and dedication that it takes. So I had to be honest with myself, I'm letting my rig go to a person who can make more use of it. When I bought it, it was one year old and had little use (another cinematographer:). I used it for one year, only for (ocasional:S) practising and one short film project. The HD-monitor, the V-Mount Battery and charger, the Low Mode Bracket and the Custom Gimbal Grip I bought new myself and they are only one year old in total. The package I'm selling includes: Zephyr Sled System Camera Mounting Dovetail Plate 1/4-20 Camera Mounting Screw 3/8-16 Camera Mounting Screw 2 Section Post System Low Friction Gimbal Custom Gimbal Grip by Frederic Sturm Zephyr Arm System 7“ FM-073SCH 1100nit Bon HD monitor with bracket and cables (HDMI and SDI input, Auto/Manual Flip, False Color, Vectorscope, Waveform, Focus assist, Audio Meter, Pixel to Pixel, H/V Level Meters, great monitor!!) 12V V-Battery Mount Original SD monitor Zephyr with cables Counter Weights (x4) Middle Counter Weights (x4) Docking Bracket Low Mode Bracket Amercian Grip Stand (no Sandbags needed) BNC to RCA Adaptor RCA to BNC Adaptor 7" BNC Video Cable 12 Volt Power Cable Operating Manual Hard Case w/ Wheels Decimator Version 2 with cables Global Media Pro Li190BS V-Mount Battery (190Wh, Power Limit 105W, can be separated into two traveling-friendly 95Wh parts) Global Media SCA2S 2-channel V-Mount Charger custom made weight plate (to use the Zephyr with a light DSLR) custom made hard mount for rigging a car etc I paid 7400 Euros for the basic one year old SD Zephyr, the V-Mount Battery and charger is 650 new, the monitor 1900, custom Grip+weight plate+Low Mode Bracket+hard mount = 10300 Euros. I am asking 9000 Euros for the whole package! It comes with everyting that is needed to start out. If you don't have it already, I can also throw in the Steadicam Operator's Handbook. Since I`ve only had bad experiences with shipping sensitive equipment, I would like to sell this inside germany or at least europe and organize a personal handover. If you need any info or more photos, feel free to ask.

  20. I recently flew an Epic on a Zephyr and had some serious shaking issues. The rented rig didn't come with enough weights to properly keep the bottom end heavy, so we fitted a circular 5lb weight to the post and it worked perfectly in all of our tests. We had two Steadicam shots that day, and the first, a low-mode shot following the hand of a character went flawlessly, but the second shot had one issue that may have ruined the shot. The shot was a high angle (tilted ~30 degrees) running shot for about ten yards to a lock off, a few booms, then a walk in to a lock off. The entirety of the second half was perfect, but the running had some terrible shaking throughout it. If they were just footsteps, I would have understood and learned from my mistake, but they were consistent throughout the movement, not just when I stepped. The ground was awful; our location was an ally in complete disrepair. It looked like it had never seen a full, even state in the history of the city, and was instead patched with lazy pothole fills. This didn't stop the first shot from being completed as planned, though. We did 27 takes of this shot and the problem was in each take, but we had a hard out fast approaching, and nothing immediately stood out when I docked. While watching dailies the 1st AC suggested that it was something in the build on top and took responsibility, however, I want to be sure so that this doesn't happen again. Issues that I think may have caused this: -weight on the bottom of the sled possibly being loose -loose parts on the camera -operation issues (what could have caused constant shakes from operation? trying to hold the angle?) -uneven ground I really appreciate any advice anybody can give me about this. This is the best shot I have of the build from our tests; I don't know if this is going to be enough to tell what's wrong..

  22. Hey all, I'm selling my 6 months old Steadicam Zephyr. It's in excellent condition, almost brand new but I'm selling it since I'm going to upgrade to a bigger rig and need the money. It comes with all its accessories including the second battery hanger for 24v power option. Message me if interested to send you the photos and the price. Cheers, Chris
  23. Anyone tried this setup? I have an upcoming shoot with an Amira setup with CP2's, C-motion running one motor and video link. With the Amira body being approx. 4.1kgs, the CP2's weighing about 1 kgs each, with batteries and accessories I would probably be pushing 10kgs. I can consider losing the mattebox to lower the weight, but I thought I'd check with you guys if any of you have experience with this setup, or if you think it's simply a bad idea to even try. I can alternatively access an Epic which I know for sure I can fly on the Zephyr, but would be interested in trying to rig up the Amira, if possible of course. Also I'm assuming I would have to run power off the camera battery unless I can power the Amira with 12V from the Zephyr. Any thoughts?
  24. In browsing through my Zephyr's monitor (model MSC-200565, HD 7" 800 nits) manuals, I've come across a monitor setting I haven't seen before on other monitors: Colour Temperature. The setting is explained in two sections: And also: Now, my question... in what situations would I be using this setting? Am I setting it to match the ambient light? If so, when am I supposed to be in 9300K light?
  25. Anyone know anyone with a Zephyr to rent out in the GTA? We have insurance! Thanks!
