  1. First application of the Portahead 10 prototype for a short film. The system is designed to be used with a steadicam system as portable device and adds electronically stabilized roll and tilt while the pan acts manually with the steadicam. The weight of the 2-axis head is 3.6 kg and it is optimized for longer cameras at around 10 kg like the Arri Alexa series or Amira, Red one, Sony P1 or F55 with raw recorder. Shorter and lighter cameras can also be used as the motor output settings can be adjusted. Later there will also be an additional pan-motor in order to extend the system to a 3-axis stabilized head for crane, cablecam or car-to-car shots. www.portahead.de
  2. Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a steadicam Alexa plate to mount it directly to my zephyr but most companies told me that they made the plates for the "steadicam ultra" sled size. I want to see if anybody knows if the zephyr and the ultra have the same dovetail plate size, if not which plate do you advise for the zephyr? Many Thanks.
  3. I think they're about 300$? I have one I don't need anymore, only used a couple times. email dustinheindl@gmail.com
  4. Hello Everyone! After extensive research, I have come across this dovetail plate which stands out for me, to be the best option. Although expensive, I made the purchase. Very happy. 6. Camera Positioning Systems, a Canadian machine shop specializing in Libra head and camera accessory manufacturing, has built a fantastic mounting plate for Arri Alexa cameras. This plate is CNC machined from aluminum and anodized black. The underside is hollowed out to save weight, while still maintaining structural integrity. The plate is designed to mount directly into a Pro sled (or similar). It features a slight cutout in the bevel (pictured) on one side which acts as a safety on Pro rigs preventing the plate and camera from sliding off if loosened too much. This plate mounts directly into the Alexa camera body (no other plates required). It features a small captive brass button that slides into the cleat at the back of the camera to increase rigidity and reduce flexing of the camera fore and aft. Both the brass button and the mounting block at the front can be adjusted left to right in unison and locked in position to fine tune side-to-side positioning of the camera on the sled. This is crucial to dynamic balance and provides fast repeatable results for every build. Convenient captive screws mount into the camera body and are tightened with the handy 5/32" T Handle used for everything else on the Pro sled. These are 3D CAD designed and built in Canada. Camera Positioning Systems have been designing and manufacturing custom remote heads, accessories, plates, and brackets for many years now. Similar plates go for at least $650. If interested, please check out the online store for Camera Positioning Systems at http://www.cameragak.com where you can place an order. There are many other great and handy brackets and plates for sale there too. http://www.cameragak.com/products/61-ARRI-Alexa-Steadicam-Baseplate/
  7. Hello to the forum, I have been reading trough a lot of posts, so I will try not to be repetitive. I am a cinematography student from germany in his 5th year and just getting interested in the topic, have experience in handling all kind of cameras of course (35, 16, Red, Alexa, DSLR, BMCC, EX3 etc.) but no experience what so ever handling any kind of stabilizing equipment. I understand that I would be good to read some books, take a workshop (or several) to aquire some basic knowledge and getting closer to the topic. I am planing to do that (just ordered the Steadicam Operator's Handbook). But in the meantime, steadicam workshops in germany are a little rare, I love to research about a possible model for me to get in the future (I tend to do that with all my equipment as many others do, too i guess). So you understand, I would like to work my way into it smoothly, learn, do student projects, learn, not necessarily jump fully into it as a fulltime career plan (So, I know it is too early but I would like to ask your advise anyway). I would like to get some help about what things to consider..or better, which things to take more in consideration than others, not generally ("search button"). I will get more specific. First thing for me was the amount of weight I can fly and the money I think I could invest right now....that lead to (still thinking about it) the Zephyr. Some good comments about it in the forum. Although I'm convinced that new cameras in the future will tend to be lighter than the actual Alexa (Amira, F5/55, Epic, C500 and their successors) I feel uncomfortable about the actual Alexa reaching easily the limits of that system (going along with powering issues due to the electronics inside the pole of the Zephyr, right). Since there is no way to update the Zephyr I also understand that it is a system one would buy and then sell to update (good Idea or not, seems to sell quite well). Also, I don't like the fact that the Zephyr is made in the US which makes service and maintainance more complicated for me (If somebody knows how far the service of german distributor betz-tools goes, I would like to hear about that). It has a front mount. Opinions about front or back mount seam to depend a lot on personal taste? That lead me to swiss actioncam. They offer the Raptor system for a similar price. It flies more weight (up to 38lbs with additional spring set, suppose one can change them himself?). I understood that It has no electronics in the pole so you can run any kind of cable through it. It is modular and updatable. It has a back mount vest. It is made in Switzerland, just about 3 hours from my city. Then again, there is nothing to be found about that system in this forum (almost) or the entire Internet. I don't know to what extend it is considered professional. If somebody has some experience with that system I would love to hear about it (especially regarding my consideration points). Maybe some folks from europe know about or have tried it? So, I already hid some questions in the text:) I would like to know from you how important you value your brands being in the states for service. I supposed that the lack of information about the actioncam products is partly due to that (and It's pretty new?) I would like to know what you think how important is how much weight the system can fly in terms of qualitiy. I suppose that, although I can fly an all-equipt Alexa with the Actioncam Raptor, I will experience some limitations in comparison with bigger systems (Pro ect., you guys often recommand looking for a used "big" system instead of buying a cheap new one). I also spoke with a co-student who has owned a pilot, owns an archer know and told me to stay away from "no-names". Obviously there can be great differences in all parts of the system but how can I identify bad quality? Even trying it out I can't since I'm a newbee...and then maybe it's the workshop:) I would like to know if you think my considerations make sense or if I'm missing some big part of the picture. Thanks for listening.

  10. We have a spare Ultra II vest from an Ultra IIC sled that went with a Walter Klassen setup. It's in great condition. This has never seen a feature or extended production work. Worn maybe a dozen times to supplement some smaller sleds with a nicer vest. We don't own any big sleds now so this has no place with us and needs a new home. Here's a complete detailed review of it: The key block has a couple of small, very light spots on the metal from use (purely minor cosmetics). Couple of minor scuffs on the shoulder latches. No major frays in the fabric, all velcro is solid, the foam has no dents or deformations, and the main chest plate is flawless. This is a great vest for someone looking to save a little but get something in like-new shape. Please reference the photos to see any further details. Includes the bag (slightly dusty from being shelved but never used). Give us a ring or email with any questions: $4000 + Shipping we prefer Paypal but can accept any major credit card. 12. Full Steadicam Rig made by Tiffen Steadicam. This takes cameras that weight anything from approx. 5-20 lbs.... so that covers everything right through from any RED, Alexa, Sony F5, Phantom Flex.... even a Canon 5D with some additional weights added.... this has flown them all! I'm leaving the UK in May to head off and travel for a year or two so regrettably I'm having to sell this to help fund my travels. It comes with the official arm, sled, vest, flat monitor, low mode bracket, 2 x batteries and charger, additional weight plates for use with lighter cameras eg. the Canon 5D. It all packs into the flight-case which has wheels and a handle to pull it along with. I've not had it out of the box for a while due to a career change but will give it all a good clean up ready to package, it's got wear and tear that you'd expect for a piece of kit that has been well used but it's a robust strong bit of kit, a little piece of the plastic casing has cracked on the arm but this is purely cosmetic this is just a dust case, there's a little knock on the back of the monitor too but as I mentioned this is just wear and tear. Overall it's in lovely condition please come and see it and make me a sensible offer. The model is ProVid2.... was £20k new.... happy to let it go for sensible offers in the region of £5,000. This item is advertised across multiple sites so I reserve the right to end the auction early should it sell elsewhere. I'm based in Leeds, England. Please call me on +44(0)7843952755 for more information. Will post worldwide. Please note the Red Rock Micro rig with rails and Follow Focus, Canon 5D and lens seen in the pictures are not part of this sale!
  13. Hi all, I put a little video together with a few shots I did on a movie in 2012 with the Alexa. There's some slow moves, low mode and a crane step off in it which I'd like to show you. I already posted it on The Steadicam Group on facebook: https://www.facebook...51220513606629/ Here's the direct vimeo link: https://vimeo.com/57601874 Please let me hear what you think about the single shots! Best, Fabian
  14. What are the basic Steadicam accessories that you would expect the camera house (that is renting the Alexa to your production) to carry?
