  5. http://letushelix.com/ I got a chance to check this out a little at NAB. Seems pretty cool, but it wasn't working 100% at the time. It actually looks like the same concept as the Lynn Axis. Looks like it has a Steadicam Dovetail built in for roll axis correction, and it has industry standard connections.
  6. Hi All, I recently got my hands on a couple of "mystery" gimbals, and I'm wondering if any of you guys would be able to identify them by what they look like. They're no brand name labels, or marks or serials on them, but I'll share some pictures, and some details below... This gimbal is for a 1.5" post, has a six-inch gimbal grip with a blue anodized quick release latch. The handle is pretty long, about 7 inches. The outer bearing ring is actually silver, although it looks black in this pic. It's missing some trunion caps, as you can see in the pics, which expose the trunion bearings...i'd like to get some caps for it, but I don't know what brand this is. Don't even know if it supposed to have caps. The yoke action is smooth and fast, as are the trunion bearings. The pan bearing is smooth, but "noisy"...kind of hard to describe...it spins freely, but you can feel friction transmitted through the grip, and it makes the kind of sound a lazy susan might make when you spin it?...might it help to know the make of the gimbal so I can properly clean/lube the bearings? Or maybe it's shot? This gimbal is also for a 1.5" Post -- the grip is 4" long or so, and has a kipping handle on the bottom for a lock. The locking part can be unscrewed from the grip itself. The handle looks like your standard size handle, and is textured with an aggressive knurling. No rubber O-ring. but there is a space for one. The trunion caps are sqared off, and without spanner tool holes. You basically just twist them off. I took the gimbal apart, and on the pan bearing, there are some manufacturing marks as follows : JAPAN/KOYO/6809Z...I'm assuming this is the make and model of said bearing...perhaps a good clue to what make and manufacturer this gimbal may be? This seems to be the better of the two, as all movement is silky smooth and silent. ...and that's all I got! Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to look through. Let me know if you have any questions or comments! Beau

  9. Hi all, I am new to the forums and keen to hear feedback from steadicam operators all over on something I produced this summer. I am a beta/product tester for Vitec Videocom and as part of a Kickstarter project I have launched I was lucky enough to have Curt Schaller operate the prototype SMX 20 'Artemis Trinity' on my pitch film. It has been getting some good and bad feedback, all of which I understand, but I wanted to hear from actual operators in the industry. As a DoP I have my issues with the end product that we created but I think it's still a really decent effort given the ambitious one-shot nature of it. The Artemis Trinity has actually now been adapted to iron out the imperfections that are visible on my pitch film, but I'd love to know what others think of the prototype's efforts. Any and all feedback is great, and I will actually pass it on to Sachtler. Please check out the pitch film here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulcook/magpie Thank you for your time.
  10. Selling my Swedish Chameleon Newton Gimbal with 32bit Board. The Newton has some big advantages compared to other gimbals like one-arm design (no problems with swaping medias or batteries) very huge variety of possible camera sizes (F5 or FS700 is no problem at all, where other gimbals are waaaay to short), Manfrotto style dovetails (you can take out the camera via quick release of the newton and place it on any manfrotto base or put the newton on a manfrotto tripod/quick release with the manfrotto style dovetail shape of the pan motor) and triming via screws instead of freestyle sliding on rods. no limits in rotation. good for on-steadicam mounting. used, but in excellent condition. it comes with hardcase, handles, 2 batteries, dovetails and camera screws. new 5.000 Euro asking for 3500 Euro + shipping i will post some more pics later. Karsten
  11. Hey there, Since I didn't want to crash the Ultra 2 centering party thread, I thought I'd start my own and hope people can help me over here as well. I have the Archer 1 which has for some reason decided it wants to go off level both in tilt and in roll after I static balance and then rotate through 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Since there are no adjusting screws on the yoke like on the Archer 2 or U2 gimbal, the UK factory is too far away for a quick fixing and my steadicam repair guy's workshop is currently closed, I'm a bit clueless as to what I could do until my next shoot tomorrow evening. Any ideas anyone? Thanks a bunch!

  13. Hi everyone, Let me quickly introduce me: I am the co-founder of a small hardware startup, based in Berlin, Germany and we have developed the compact full 3-axis-camera stabilizer LUUV for action cams, smartphones and digital compact cams. We recently shot a video with a hula hoop dancer to show what the stabilizer is capable of. We think that the result might be very interesting for you all with so much experience in this field since it was shot in a few hours without spending money or time on filming with further equipment. Looking forward to your feedback! Toger
  14. Hi all, I've got an MK-V V2 gimbal that is in need of some servicing. I've got noticeable pan friction and cleaning/re-lubing did not help. Anyhow, I'm looking for someone in the US that is able to service that gimbal. Karen at MK-V said there was a place in the US that services them, but I can't seem to find the info and I haven't heard back from Karen. Thanks! ~Mark

  16. Hard mounting a gimbal to a vehicle usually results in shake footage due to vibrations from the road. This vibration isolator helps remove those vibrations by suspending the gimbal on bent wire rope assemblies. More info can be found here: http://www.stratus-productions.com/cinema-vibration-dampener

  21. 3a gimbal for sale - it's the one Joe Lawry had for sale last year (http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=18070&hl=%2Bjoe+%2Blawry+%2Bgimbal) I've had it as a back up but no longer in need - £600+shipping. Would like to offload it fairly quickly - messages on here or adam (at) bigmess.co.uk I'm in the UK - London to be specific... Cheers!
  22. Setting up my Zephyr for some at home practice yesterday, I discovered an odd and unsettling sensation in the gimbal. It appears that something has worked loose in the connection between the yoke of the gimbal and collar around the post, to the point where I can freely slide the collar back and forth about a 1/16" between the two points of the yoke. There's no other play to speak of; it's a perfect horizontal slide. Everything else feels fine, but of course if I have the rig pointing along the same line as the two points in the yoke and start a tilt, it will suddenly slide forward or back by a fraction of an inch, and there goes my balance. I popped a few covers off to have a closer look, as shown in the picture, but I'm not really sure where to go from here, or even if I should go any farther, if this is something better left to factory service. Tried Dan Ikeda at Tiffen, no answer yet though. I'd welcome any advice, including "Put the allen keys down and back away slowly before you wreck your gimbal." Thanks, Tom
