  4. So I got a crazy good deal on Flyer rig used... Huzzah! The only problem is the entire thing smells overwhelmingly of cigarette smoke! I'm trying every old wives trick in the book so if anyone finds this remotely interesting (or entertaining!) I can post about my methods if it works out. However, per my inital question, IF all of my efforts and spells and incantations fail- could I purchase a new Scout Vest, (probably a compact vest because I am a smaller framed girl anyway) and would the new vest be compatible with the rest of flyer rig? Thanks in advance! PS- if anyone out there is/was a smoker and has had this problem, it would be lovely to add some new ingedients to my list of possible concoctions!
  5. I'm a college student just starting off- everyone's heard that before, no? I rent out my school's Zephyr rig often and work on many thesis films with full F3 rigs that almost max out the rig. I also have a video production company with a few of my guys from school and we plan on moving out to LA to continue our company. Our company has a Dragon with nice lenses, and a bunch of lighting and grip equipment. The Dragon weighs a ton, which the Zephyr can't really handle. I've built up a decent reel with all of this footage I've accumulated over the past year or so of oping, and I'm looking to purchase my own rig but don't want to start small like most people do because I'm already beyond that. I need something that can fly the fully outfitted Dragon and even an Alexa because that's what some ad agencies in the area are using. It's taking a bit of convincing on my end for my folks to help me with this sort of investment. Basically, they want guarantees in an industry where guarantees are hard to make, especially at my point. I was wondering if people could share their advice and answer a few questions I have about things. Here they are: -What does the average steadicam op make a year? Without telling me what you personally make (because no one likes to do that, I completely get it), just throw me some numbers; Is it enough right out of school with a killer real to meet other expenses such as owning a car/place to live and eat? -If Im looking to fly a fully outfitted Dragon and even an Alexa because that's the stage that I'm at right now, then what equipment should I really be looking at that won't absolutely break my wallet like a $50k GPI Pro system? I really want to do front mount and like the feel of a larger post like the action cam and GPI systems. Should I mix and match components to build what I need and what would you suggest? -How in the fuck do I finance something like this right out of the gate without any guarantee I can make it back? What are some of your stories- surely not everyone has $50k lying around to finance the best rig right out of the gate- yet how can you compete with these jobs and in the industry if you aren't right up there with the big dogs? -Does getting a loan from your family as well as a loan from the bank and then going to different businesses/agencies and asking for upfront money really work? It seems to me that if you talk to an agency you don't know then they wouldn't want to give you money up front to do a job- it's basic business. Any stories from people who have successfully done this? The problem is I don't have anyone I know in the industry to ask these questions to- questions that I really need to know in order to go into the field because I really love the job and the creativity it brings. I love how everyone on set knows you by the end of the shoot and you feel like you accomplished some huge feat at the end- which might actually be true haha. Can anyone lend me a few minutes with a response to one or some of these questions and help me out? Thanks. -Brendan
  6. Hello guys,
I’m selling my beloved steadicam set. Several decisions and other job opportunities are forcing me to sell my rig, with pain in my hear. It has never been rented and always well taken care of. Items are located in Belgium, but I’m willing to ship worldwide. Everything (and more) you need to start going! I’d prefer to sell it as one package, but splitting is an option if there are several people interested. I paid a little over 62 000 USD for this. Every reasonable offer is considered! More photos can be found at this link: http://checkthis.com/pir7 Some items in the description are not in the pictures but are included in the sale! 12. Ahoyhoy, Looking to sell my Easyrig 3 Cinema with a 700N Shock Absorber. The 700N can hold camera weights up to 40 lbs (according to the manual). The largest set up I've put on this rig was a Panavision GII with a 1000' mag on the back. The rig performed perfectly well. Overall, this Easyrig is in excellent condition. Almost brand new condition. Probably been used 6-7 times total. Comes with the original carrying case, aks pouch, safety strap, manual booklet and a DVD manual. The rig originally sold for $3,500.00. I'm looking to get $2,800.00 OBO (plus S&H). I'm located out of North Carolina so East Coasters, I'm willing to work out a hand-off to save money on shipping. Feel free to PM me or email me: aaron.gantt@gmail.com
  13. Hello everyone. Looking to sell my Steadicam Zephyr. I've had it for just about a year now and it has served me very well. I finished upgrading my gear about two months ago so I'm ready to say goodbye to this one... 12v/HD Sled Zephyr Arm (w/ bag) Compact Zephyr Vest HD Monitor (w/ plexiglass shield) Docking bracket Batteries (2x Gold Mount Switronix) Dual Charger Sled Power Cables BNC Cable F-Bracket (for low-mode) Low-Mode Bracket Merlin weights (for additional weight when working with lighter cameras) Original DVD and Manual Zephyr Sled to XLR 4-pin cable Carrying case for the whole deal (and it has wheels for your back!) Everything is in damn good condition. Very few and very minor scratches, purely cosmetic. Had the gimbal serviced about 9 months ago by Tiffen; works perfectly. The Switronix batteries surprised me with how long they last. I'm looking to get $7,500.00 (+shipping) OBO. I'm located in Winston-Salem, NC and am willing to work out a hand-off for East-Coast residence if you want to save a little cash on shipping. Please feel free to PM me or email me (aaron.gantt@gmail.com) if you have any further questions.
  14. Hi, I'm a film student wanting to buy a cheap but good steadicam as well as if it would be better to buy a rig or perhaps both. I want a steadicam to improve the look and feel of my short films, as well as wanting to learn how to use the basics with basic equipment before i move onto more professional equipment. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

  17. Full Steadicam Rig for sale made by Tiffen Steadicam. This takes cameras that weight anything from approx. 5-20 lbs.... so that covers everything right through from any RED, Alexa, Sony F5, Phantom Flex.... even a Canon 5D with some additional weights added.... this has flown them all! I'm leaving the UK in May to head off and travel for a year or two so regrettably I'm having to sell this to help fund my travels. It comes with the official arm, sled, vest, flat monitor, low mode bracket, 2 x batteries and charger, additional weight plates for use with lighter cameras eg. the Canon 5D. It all packs into the flight-case which has wheels and a handle to pull it along with. I've not had it out of the box for a while due to a career change but will give it all a good clean up ready to package, it's got wear and tear that you'd expect for a piece of kit that has been well used but it's a robust strong bit of kit, a little piece of the plastic casing has cracked on the arm but this is purely cosmetic this is just a dust case, there's a little knock on the back of the monitor too but as I mentioned this is just wear and tear. Overall it's in lovely condition please come and see it and make me a sensible offer. The model is ProVid2.... was over £20,000 new.... happy to let it go for sensible offers in the region of £5,000. I'm based in Leeds, England. Please call me on +44(0)7843952755 for more information. Will post worldwide. Please note the Red Rock Micro rig with rails and Follow Focus, Canon 5D and lens seen in the pictures are not part of this sale! Please get in touch with any questions - happy to help.
  18. Ok, well the time has come to let my first rig float out the door and into the hands of someone else! For sale is my Glidecam Gold rig (SLED) with NP1 base. The sled is 10yrs old but hasn't been used for 5 1/2 years. It's been living in it's case since I upgraded the sled to a 2inch version. It's still in good condition and functions perfectly. The gimbal is in perfect condition. Only modification is the rubber grip I added. Sled comes with two LCDs, the original Panasonic plus a spare L7 Pro as a backup. (I preferred the Panasonic but the L7 was there just incase) Also included are 11 Lithium NP1 batteries. (10 pictured) 6 of these are brand new with barely any use. Charger is NOT included. Jerry Hill balacing bracket included PLUS a Mag Dock bracket for another stand or if you have a Magliner etc. ($1000 in those two mounts alone!) A Marell Digital level is also included with the sled plus associated cables. Brand new GOLD wedge plate. Custom road case. Wet weather covers. Sled has 12/24 volt power, loads of 12v/video out lemo connectors. It's a workhorse and earnt me a good living in my first years of operating. I had some heavy loads on the old girl back in the day. This would be a great starter rig for someone getting into the game or upgrading from a small light weight system. I'd be thrilled to see it go to a younger operator starting out. I was lucky to have lots of help when I started out so if I can help answer any questions it would be my pleasure. I have been keeping the rig as a back up but I think it's time to let her go for someone else to play with. NOTE - This rig is wired for a SD composite signal. I spoke with the guys at Glidecam and for less than $1700 they will totally rewire the rig for HD-SDI. If you'd rather just use a down converter then you'll save yourself a few bucks. If you'd like to learn more about it, check this link for the full blurb! http://www.glidecam.com/product-gold-sled.php This sled sells for $16,000 and that's with out the extra gear included above. Sad to see her go! Sled is based in LA. Price $5000. Email me if you'd like more details or you have questions. I have approx 25 photos I can email through. leigh@loosecannon.com.au
  19. Looking for a full rig (arm, vest and sled) for 10-12k, large enough to fly an Alexa, for example. Thanks!
  20. Hey all, I thought some independet filmmakers, DPs and Ops might find this interesting. It's a rig still in design that "incorporate steadicam, boom camera (for high shots), a glide track (for smooth pan and push shots), a shoulder mount, and a tripod all into one compact, low cost product." Check out the designer's website here http://www.grantparr....com/indieshot/ I'm curious to see what some more engineers and experienced operators might think. Keep it steady baby! SamCam
  21. Hello, I own my own rig, and am looking for an insurance policy that will cover any lost, damaged or stolen equipment. At the moment I have fractured atlas insurance, which I previously got before the steadicam, which covers production and equipment, but I want to be sure that my equipment is covered and I may be needing to find another provider. On the other boards I've been hearing about W.P Dolle LLC, and was wondering if anyone knows what the price points are and how much monthly one would need to pay (ball park estimate), for insurance. Thank you for your time and interest in my issue. -Candace
