  1. Hi, I'd like to hear people's thoughts and experiences working with a Master (Broadcast) sled, and if you guys think it's 'still got it' compared to modern sleds? I'm still looking at upgrade options and have been considering a used Archer2 with G50x arm, but a Master with upgraded G70 is available for a similar price (both with LX vests). The sled has been upgraded with HD-SDI already so should be ready to fly modern cameras. I'm just a little concerned about the apparent lack of flexibility of the monitor and battery mounts and the short post? The G70 arm would allow me to upgrade to a modern 'big rig' sled in the future but just concerned that the old sled design may have some compromises compared to a modern one while I'm working with it? I've not yet had a look and test of either of them but doing some background research at the moment ;) Cheers guys will get there in the end! rups
  2. Does anyone happen to know the measurements for the Tiffen Steadicam Merlin Arm post? What size would it fit?
  3. Is there a cheap even offbrand heavy duty Arm and Vest stabilization system for 20lbs and up? Anything at all less than thousands and thousands of dollars.
  4. Hi all, Does anyone have or know of a spare 1.5" post please? I'd like to replace the original post on my EFP but it's not worth buying a new post for, so hoped one of you helpful chaps & chappesses might have one around somewhere! If one of you know of or have a post that might suit do drop me a PM or email john@fryfilm.com Thank you all!
  5. I had the Merlin2 arm and vest. Turns out my rig is too heavy. It weighs in at (cut down) around 24 lbs. Full rig weight can be anywhere between 24-30 depending. Scale accuracy aside im looking to get one that will work with my rig. I primarily do live events so on the go. I use my two DSLRs as secondary cameras so I just want something I can use to quickly take my rig off a tripod and transfer to the steadicam for quick movement shots, or simply place on the sled and support the entire time. I've done some research. Looking at the pricing it seems there isnt anything for less than $5,000 or so that will work with my primary camera. Not sure if anyone knows, however is there a way to buy just a heavy duty sled and not all the extra bells and whistles. I already have a Marshall broadcast monitor and hookups so thats not an issue I dont need all that extra stuff I really just need a quality steadicam that is smooth for heavier weights. Option one aside, there is also the option of using a smaller stabilizer with one of the DSLRs. Thats fine, however that brings to mind the question of using a sled or using a curve. Going again, barebones with the Merlin or a different route perhaps the new Steadicam Solo (although im concerned about durability with that one. Not sure of the pros and cons of either. The curve ones I believe may have more sway in the wind so a sled might be better. Alot of my work is outdoors. That being said, looking for advice thanks in advance.
  6. I am looking to buy only the sled. No arm or vest needed. Neither do I need the monitor I already have a Marshall HD monitor. Anyone wishing to unload just the sled feel free to respond. Looking for at least a Zephyr in terms of weight handling thanks!
  7. For Sale my original Master Series Steadicam Vest. Yes, it's old. Yes, it needs TLC But, if your just starting out and need a good vest, and don't mind putting some work into things, this is a good choice. It needs a socket block and some creative work on the webbing. Years ago I replaced the leather with plastic and webbing to make it lighter and quieter. Padding is good I'm asking $1000 obo Mike 818-207-8156
  8. Currently shooting a few indies right now and was looking into buying an on-board/field monitor for myself. I would preferably want to go with something that gives good light outside, so i'm assuming i'll need something with a good amount of nits. I've heard TVLogic carries a sun bright monitor, but haven't checked one out before. Anyone have experience with this? Also, has anyone heard of Bon monitors? I hear they carry outdoor monitors as well? Thanks!
  9. I have a Pilot and I'm looking for tips on running. Basically the main issue I see is that as soon as I start moving at a relatively quick pace, I start seeing vertical jiggles in the video. I've narrowed down the issue to the vibrations transferring from either my left hand on the gimble/post, or to my right hand on the handle (most likely the latter). Running at high(er) speeds makes it more difficult to keep the camera/post in control which makes me have the tendency to try to keep it in control, resulting in more contact/gripping of the handle. I also look at my feet control and rather than taking large strides like one would normally do while running, I take smaller controlled steps. The main problem is that it becomes difficult to reach the high speed I want and it gets really tiring. So just looking for tips on what works for you. Now I am in no way comparing stabilizers/technique here... but I recently watched a parkour video based on the Assassin's Creed video game. It was shot on Glidecam 4000 with a RED and no vest, so you can imagine the sheer weight the camera op had to hold during each shot. Now what intrigued me was how he was able to film high speed running scenes with nary any jiggles like what I'm seeing -- and I'm not even running as fast as him.

  11. Hey Everyone, I recently got my hands on an old Steadicam ProVid. Its in great condition and I'd love to start using it but all the cameras I'm using are just too light. And I'm mainly flying the F35 and old Red Ones! Whats the best way to add some weight to the rig? Thanks!
  12. Looking to sell my Steadicam Zephyr. Have had it for just over 2 years. I have it serviced every 6 months and it is in perfect working condition. It has been great to me as a starting rig, but starting to get onto bigger jobs now and am trying to upgrade to a larger rig. Bought it for $13,000 was hoping to sell for $8,000. Also had the Steadicam Zephyr V upgrade installed for live television production. Will post pictures if anybody is interested. If interested please contact me, my info is below. Thank You. Thanks, Sean Flannery spflanne@gmail.com (310) 848-4852
  13. Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a steadicam Alexa plate to mount it directly to my zephyr but most companies told me that they made the plates for the "steadicam ultra" sled size. I want to see if anybody knows if the zephyr and the ultra have the same dovetail plate size, if not which plate do you advise for the zephyr? Many Thanks.
