Premium Members Dan Coplan Posted May 6, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2010 Someone asked me today about my opinion regarding digital motors compared to analog motors to which I replied, "Hunh?". Can someone educate me on this topic? Dan
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted May 6, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2010 With analogue a standard focus motor will not function well as a zoom motor(and vise versa) because they have different encoders. The focus has a position sensor while the zoom has a speed sensor. You can get motors that contain both they are more expensive and don't seem to be very common. A digital motor will function as either. There are also issues with using analogue motors with 3D as they have to be perfectly matched in order to drive the two lenses in sync. Doesn't seem to be an issue with digital motors. If you are just pulling focus they will both get the job done just as well it really just depends on what your chosen focus system requires. ~Jess
