Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted March 30, 2011 Author Moderators Report Share Posted March 30, 2011 Hi Everyone I have just been informed that the plug is a Tajimi 8-pin, just like Fujinon 8-pin lens but a size smaller.Sony don't you love them . Andrew Stone
I would like to know if it is possible to use the 8 pin plug on the back of the new sony F3 Camera for remote Start/Stop ?Has anyone tried it ? A few of us F3 owners are trying to do the same thing. It should work Louis. The Sony paint box control designed for this has a run/stop button on it. I 'm going to pass this info on to someone who is going to do up the cable and test it out. Will report back if they get to it first. -Andrew Edited April 1, 2011 by Andrew Stone
Andrew Stone
Update... Someone believes it isn't the Tajimi connector. From an F3 forum on DVinfo... it's not the Tajimi as the key is in the wrong place. It might be the Hirose MXR...

Hi Andrew How did you go with that Run /stop cable for the F3 Did you get it working with your BFD/Preston Louis
Andrew Stone
Hi Louis, Between NAB and work not involving Steadicam, I haven't had the time to delve into any further than getting a bit further on the connector. The most likely candidate is Hirose MXR-8P connector. Here is an order page with a schematic attached. The Sony rep I talked too actually wasn't much help. There is someone else that is supposed to be working on a cable but i think he, similarly, has been distracted by other things. I will give him a nudge. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted August 14, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 14, 2011 Bear in mind that there will be more and more shoots with F3's using outboard recorders as the S-log upgrade becomes more common. So a cable that controls the camera will not be a "one-size-fits-all".
Andrew Stone
Ramon I've hit a dead end with this one. Here is the proper connector (verified on camera) but no one, I am aware of, has been able to fashion a simple start/stop cable with it yet. -Andrew
Premium Members Michael Hauer Posted August 15, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 15, 2011 If you are using the F3 with the nanoflash and not recording onto SxS cards can u run/stop the camera remotely? If so is there a way to use the runstop on the bartech or do you need a proprietary remote for the nanoflash?
Andrew Stone
Excellent idea Michael. I contacted Convergent Design through another forum here is the info... Below is a schematic of the pin assignment for the NanoFlash remote plug. Here is a reply from Dan Keaton of Convergent Design on creating and using a run/stop cable with the nanoFlash... Pin 4 to Ground, either Pin 7 or Pin 8 will activate our Start/Stop circuit. If you are in Trigger|Remote or Trigger Remote and Record, then 1. Press Once to Record 2. Press and Hold for 1 second or so, then Release to Stop Recording. If you are in Trigger|Remote Level 1. Maintain Contact, Pin 4 to Pin 7 or 8 to Record 2. Open the circuit to stop recording. A good solution for those of us who have a nanoFlash, not so great though if you show up on a shoot and the production wants you to use the internal recorder in the F3 in a conventional manner. -Andrew
Andrew Stone
Ramon a bit more info on why it appears to be a dead end using the paint box control connector (labelled "REMOTE") on the back of the F3. It appears that the communication that turns the Sony on and off in record mode is not simply closing a circuit in the REMOTE connector. Apparently, there is some kind of serial communication going on so using a "relay" approach will not work... at least this is the information gleaned thus far. I cannot get definitive information, nor have the others I know who have been attempting to find a solution for this. -Andrew
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted August 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 17, 2011 Sony Blows! So sick and tired of their shit being non industry standards. Dammit! Stupid Sony. .............i feel better.
Jackson Yeung
I have had great success with the included DV-remote control, and velcro-ing it to the top of the preston / bartech. =) haha
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 22, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2011 Anyone know if its using some variation of LANC control? If so shouldnt be too hard to come up with a bartech to LANC start/stop circuit. I could wire up a bartech to IR remte circuit but then I would have to power the damn thing. If there seems to be much of a market I can make up a run of little micro controller boxes to handle such stupid cameras. -Jess
