Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted August 15, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 15, 2014 DC Converter Box. I'm ordering two now. One to use on my Director's monitor hand held bracket. The other as a catch-all with some extra open wire cables. Neat ! Peter Abraham, S.O.C.

Premium Members Afton Grant Posted August 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2014 Sounds awesome. Just curious why you chose the connectors you did. I'm sure they're cheaper than a Lemo, and possibly take up less space inside the box, but they don't have the most reliable reputation. I'd be willing to pay a little more to have the better quality connections - even if that meant a slightly larger box.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2014 Hey Afton, Cost is the biggest issue. I like these connectors much more than other connectors in their price range. They're high quality, light weight, and they are weather proof when mated. Having said that, I can make (and have made) a version with 2-pin Lemo connectors in the same enclosure. That brings the price up to $110 for the regulator. plus the input/output cables are more expensive, bringing the overall cost of ownership up. I may list a Lemo version on the site as an alternative if you think the cost isn't prohibitive. Thanks Alan
Premium Members James Davis Posted August 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2014 I'd be interested in a lemo version too
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 17, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 17, 2014 If I add a Lemo option, what Lemo connectors would be best? There could be the problem of an AC using a Lemo to USB meant for the Dynamo for another device. Let's say the plug a USB power device directly into an Alexa 12v out without the dynamo. Should I use a Lemo connector that isn't common? That could mean you have to buy more expensive Lemo cables. Alan
Premium Members Walter F. Rodriguez Posted August 18, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 I agree that someone could get confused, even though I had you make me the 2 pin Lemo version. I already owned the cables I wanted to use which is why I chose that connector.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 19, 2014 I could use a Lemo FFA.0S.302 to avoid accidents from happening. Would those interested in a Lemo version specifically want the standard FGG.0B.302 connectors, or would another connector suffice?
Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted August 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 19, 2014 Hey Alan, What about going with an old standard that most people already have laying around... i.e. Modulus or Canatrans. Most owners still have them and a bunch of cables to accompany, that is if they hadn't unloaded them. Just a thought, that's what I did to my Decimator... -Alfeo "hate buying more cables" Dixon
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 20, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2014 So what do you find more important in a Lemo version: the robustness of the connector, or compatibility with existing cables?
Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted August 20, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2014 Compatibility. Anything to avoid investing in yet ANOTHER species of cables !!!
Premium Members Michael Desiderio Posted August 20, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2014 I like the proprietary connectors...keeps ya out of trouble no matter who is touching the camera
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted August 20, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2014 If you decide to use an already common cable, use it with the same specks than what already exist. Not like the 2 pin lemo used both for Bartech and Teradeck Bold with REVERSE POLARITY! Almost fried my BDF because of a adventurous AC. Another option is to offer an open lead version or to be customized per order.
