Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 I'm looking for a power cable for the Panavision Elaine 16MM camera. I have a Clipper 24 sled. I might have one made but I feel like this one job (low budget job) is the only time I'm going to see this camera. My sled is 3 pin lemo and I think the Elaine is a 2 pin lemo M/F 24 volt. Thanks in advance.
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 That's the same power cable as used on the Pana XL, so it's worth having for sure.
Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted November 15, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 Hi Chares, I spoke to Panavision and they said the Pana XL had 2 male and 1 female pins in the connector and the Elaine was 1 male and 1 female. Do you know anyone at Panavision Woodlandhills who I could call that is Steadicam friendly? Thanks for the reply I look into this a little more. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 I could be on crack but I can only remember using XL's with the small 2 conductor hermaphrodite connector as opposed to the large 3 conductor version found on the LW's (and Gold, Platinum etc.) Most Steadicam-savvy person I can think of at Panavision is Dominic--he was at Hollywood but I think he's at Woodland Hills now (anyone confirm)? In any event, it's not a Steadicam issue really as it's the same deal for studio mode. Looks like the Tiffen part is 250-0049.
Premium Members Chris Flurry Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 No Charles your not on crack, speaking as an assistant, the XL uses a smaller connector witch is identical to the Heater Power Cable used on the G, G-II and Platinum cameras. I can not speak as to the elaine as I have only worked with it once, a long time ago.
Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 Philip, Charles is right...give Dominic Aiello (sp) at Panavision Woodland Hills a call...(818) 316-1000. He'll be able to tell you what's what. Very steadicam savvy, and a great guy. Brooks Robinson PS I remember the Elaine being very heavy for a 16mm camera. Premium Members Matt Petrosky Posted November 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 The Elaine uses the same power connector as the XL (ie. the 2-pin Lemo, aka: Pana-24v heater cable). I'm pretty sure the Pan-Arri 35III uses this too. G, GII, Platinum, Star, LWII, etc. use the larger 3-pin power cable. Here is a picture of the Elaine on my PRO, and it is heavy for 16mm. Also, never a bad idea to double check these things with Panavision as this picture is a couple years old and they (Panavision) change things around from time to time. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted November 16, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 16, 2007 *sigh*...so I'm not on crack. Yay. Your Avatar looks like it's on crack, no head and running around and all. In fact I think it robbed my hous a few years ago. Can't find that extra post grip I used to have.... Premium Members Charles Papert Posted November 16, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 16, 2007 I have a an arrangement with the avatar, I leave him alone and he leaves me alone. However, there IS a weird nest-like thingie down in the garage, it keeps growing and occasionally I spot bits of camera gear in there. I'll root around for your handgrip when he's out for the day. So Philip, you all set there with the Elaine power cable??!
