Dave Gish
Many questions: 1) How many in the NYC area want a beginner workshop? They say that if we get 6-9 people, they'll make it happen. 2) How applicable is the Flyer workshop for Pilot owners? Any issues I should be aware of? 3) Is there better way to see if folks are interested in a workshop?
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted February 12, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 12, 2008 If you could set up a Steadicam workshop in NYC (I'm assuming one of the Peter Abraham ones), I'd be absolutely in, so that's two right there. Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted February 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 1) can't help ya there 2) The Flyer workshop will work out great for a Pilot owner. Mention ahead of time that you you'd like to bring your rig and it shouldn't be a problem. 3) This isn't a bad start. Maybe you can post on Craig's List, or advertise at local film schools? Dave Gish
check out this websitehttp://www.on-campus-steadicam-workshops.com/index.shtml Adam Keith This just seems to mirror the regular steadicam workshop site, http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com/ which is where I learned that they will set up a workshop in a particular area if there is enough interest. Am I missing something here?
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted February 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 I really doubt you will have any problem getting enough people for a workshop in NYC. Talk to Peter Abraham. He is the guy who teaches the workshops and he actually lives in new york. ~Jess
Jeff Blugrind
I attended Peter's Flyer workshop in Las Vegas last month to learn the Pilot. He took time to help me adjust the Pilot vest and center post which are a bit different than the Flyer. Outside of setting up the vest and balancing, the Flyer instruction translates to the Pilot. Premium Members James Elias Posted February 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 I'd drop Peter an email... he may be using both the Flyer and the Pilot on the workshops. Thats what we intend to do here in the UK anyway. Best - James

Dave Gish
So far it looks like we have 4 people interested. Most interest is coming from the DVinfo thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=114755 There's also a thread on DVXuser: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=125282
Dave Gish
OK, so it looks like we have 7 people interested (5 on the DVinfo thread, and 2 on DVXuser). From what I can tell, if we have 6, 7 or 8, they will probably post a public workshop on their website for somtime this summer, and then wait to see if they get a full class of 9. But if we can get a group of 9 people, then they will hold a private workshop, probably much sooner. Since it's only been a week and we already seem to have 7 people interested, I would wait a little longer to see if we can get 9. In any case, I'll email the instructor again and see what he says. Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted February 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 18, 2008 Hi Folks, I will be instructing the New York Flyer / Pilot Workshop. Details still being arranged. Many kudos to Dave for creating such positive inertia !!!! Keep an eye on the Tiffen Steadicam Workshops web site for all of the details as soon as they are locked in place. Registration will be as per the usual route. Notice that both rigs are now shown in the name of the workshop. Because they are both lighter rigs, and their payload capacity overlaps to a degree, we have decided to couple them in the same 2-day intensive workshop. Looking forward to seeing you all there, Best, Peter Abraham Lead Instructor Director of Technical Services The Tiffen Company / Steadicam pabraham@tiffen.com http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com
Dave Gish
So there you have it, straight from the instructor. Be sure to check the link: http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com often over the next week or so. Once the workshop is posted, the first 9 to sign up will get in the class (first come first served). Dave Gish
OK, Just got an update on the NYC area workshop from Peter the instructor. He is looking at a Steadicam Workshop in the NY area in the next few months. Date to be announced within a day or so. ANYONE who wants in should email Peter at peter@thesteadicamworkshops.com to get on the list. That way, he can insure that the people expressing interest on these threads actually get in. Once he has 9 names, the workshop is closed.
