Richard James Lewis
Could someone please inform me of the possibilities of using XCS plates with the Betz top stage? Are they available "un keyed", and with the end stops like the on the Betz or Tiffen style plates? Is anyone using this setup? Thanks in advance. Rick. Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted January 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 I think the Baer-bel plates are great - give Joe a call and see if he has any. They're bomb-proof and come with the motor rods / attachments for them, and the new ones have non-slip material built into the tops of them. They do the trick nicely :)
Richard James Lewis
Yeah, I had a look last time, and he only had the short ones. I have 2 plates at the moment, but I'm looking for something a bit more butch, and the XCS look like they would be ideal. I've sent Greg a message. With the excellent reputation of XCS machining, it would be easy to just get two totally identical plates and have the Betz stage set up to clamp solidly on them. Currently one of my plates clamps slightly better than the other. Cheers guys. I?ll let you know how I get on. Rick. I think the Baer-bel plates are great - give Joe a call and see if he has any. Premium Members Benjamin Treplin Posted January 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 The XCS plates work with the Betz Tools top stage. The plates have threads at the bottom so you can add a small allen screw to each end as a stop. I can only second what has been said about Greg his products and his service on the forum Hope this helps.

I mix and match my plates, they all fit on the Betz with the added screws on the ends for a safety catch. I use PRO, old CP, Betz and XCS plates. Richard James Lewis
Thanks guys. My only other concern was the surface area on the right side of the plate. With the dovetail being machined out, and keyed for use with PRO or CP stages etc, is there enough contact area with the offside of the Betz stage to make a really solid clamp? I presume that the only part making contact would be a few mm above the lip where the plate returns to its regular thickness above the keyed area? Does that make sense? If it works, I guess it works, but I haven?t quite got my head around it. Cheers, Rick. Could someone please inform me of the possibilities of using XCS plates with the Betz top stage?
