Archer 2

I'm wondering if someone out there has come up with a clever solution, or perhaps I'm doing it wrong:

 

How do you flip the monitor for when flying in low mode with the camera upright? I haven't tried pulling the monitor rods out of the bracket, since they're held in place by the locking screw for when folding it up or travel. As of lately, I've removed the screws holding the monitor to the monitor bracket, rotated the monitor to be upright when sled is inverted, and screwed it back in.

 

Requires smaller allen key and too much time, in my opinion. Anyone come up with a simpler solution?

If it's an Archer monitor, you can flip the image. Any monitor designed for Steadicam (or designed well) will have this function somewhere in the menu.

Forgot to mention, it's a Tiffen HD UltraBRITE monitor. I thought I went through all of the menus trying to locate a way to flip the image. I'll take another look.

According to the Ultra2 Manual, which talks about the HD UltraBrite 2, it's in the Utilities menu, under "Setup 4". It should be under "Image Orientation", if the manual is correct. See page 69 of the Ultra2 Manual here: http://www.steadicam.com/images/content/U2_OSD-Functions.pdf

I am very interested and close to purchasing an Archer 2 and I have read through this thread several times. I would like to hear from you guys on what your current experiences have been with the rig. What cameras has everyone successfully flown on the rig, what is the max 'camera' weight limit some of you have found for the rig, what configurations have you come up with to keep it within the limit... etc. This thread has been great, and I am just curious to hear some more stories as I get close to making my final decision.

I've been very pleased with my Archer 2. The heaviest package I've flown so far is a RED package with Red Pro Primes (which are heavy as $&!#), 7" on board monitor, Red Drive, one motor Bartech setup, LW mattebox, Decimator, and a million cables. I definitely was maxing out my g-40 arm on that. I wouldn't recommend anything heavier than that. It was a little scary.

 

If possible, I would reocommend trying the rig out for a day, just to get a feel for it. It's a great rig, but it's still a sizable investment, so it's smart to see if it's to your liking before buying.

Thanks for letting me know your experience. I had many opportunities with the Archer 2 at a recent Workshop in Maine. It was really one of my more favorite rigs and with my market it seems to be a great rig to get started with. The RED is the most utilized camera here in Nashville right now with the 5 & 7D close behind. There are a few 16mm and seldom 35mm jobs on occasion, but nothing larger than a 435. The Archer 2 seems to work great in the weight range I would predominately work with for a while.

You should look up Andy Dean in Memphis. He started with a ProVid, then a Master, and now an Archer 1 SE. He seems to love it and does a lot of Red work. He's also about the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Of course, you're aiming to compete with him :-)
