Another thought on the Archer2 design...

I decided to go with the V-mount battery plates. I know, the AB is more sturdy, but I find the V-mount much easier to release and grab the battery with one hand. Plus, there's a lot of RED jobs out there so being able to accept RED batteries on my rig is nice.

Anyway, the problem I'm having is when I want to undersling the battery plates so they are mounted vertically but below the bottom dovetail. In this position, the v-mount is upside down and with a slight brush up against your knee, there goes your battery either smashing into the ground or your toes.

I tried removing the battery plates and inverting them, but the hole patterns don't match up this way. Any other thoughts to get around this, guys?

Also, anyone know if the AB plates can be purchased separately so I can swap them out as needed depending on battery situations?

Hello.

If you want to change to Ab mount, it's possible to get a converter-plate from AB to V-Lock.

I Think the company Hawk-Woods do this converter.

Hey Charles.

If I understood James correct, he already has the V-lock on his Archer - and as I know, there isn't a V-Lock->AB converter - only the other way - Sorry If I had you confused.

I meant that if James would change to the Anton Bauer Mount - and still wanted the option to use V-lock - this was the best solution.

BTW James - I have two AB Mounts lying around, that I don't use (It came off - from our two Panasonic HPX2100 Camcorders when we changed it to V-Lock) I will sell it to you cheap.

Sorry about the sales-text in this thread - I didn't want to open a new topic for it..

No problem Thomas. I misunderstood. BTW, what does the extrsa switches do on that AB plate you posted?

OK Charles.

The switch on the bottom is for automatic light control.

But I think its no problem to disconnect.

There is some internal Panasonic wireing for the camera-lamp AB connector on the side on this plate.

Actually there is a V-lock->AB adapter as well as being one the other way around. Can't seem to find it at the moment and don't know how readily available they are but I know they exist as I have used them to power Sony cameras from AB batteries.

Jess, Sony the makers of the V-mount to AB adapter has them for sale. I saw it on an on-line store. Can't remember where. Damn!, I knew I should have bookmarked the site.. I suggest you give them a call. Anton makes the reverse AB to V-mount. It's on B&H website.

A question:

I'm ordering cables for my A2, and am confused about the SMB connectors. To go from the sled to a camera, for example, I need male BNC to female SMB, right? Now for the fun, are we talking SMB 50 ohm, SMB 75 OHM, or mini-SMB 75 ohm?

Thanks!

Those SMB things on the RED are awful. Mercifully, 9 out of 10 examples over here now are fitted with the Element Technica BNC breakout box. I always check beforehand, and if it isn't, make sure they send a load of those SMB to female BNC inch-long tails with the camera. Then just attach a normal BNC into that.

75 ohm sounds right, Chris...

Yall are really carrying a cable with that stupid stupid connector on it? I know I am being stubborn but a damn BNC connector to output video is one thing that should come with the damn camera package. I wish they hadn't put the damn hdmi connector on there so all the low budget types wouldn't think it was a good solution for monitoring.

p.s. yes I know I really should have one too. grrr

Ah, but SMB 75 OHM, or mini-SMB 75 ohm? The devil is in the detail. Are these plugs really so bad, apart from the obvious fact that we have to buy the bloody things? ;)

Chris

That's one step too far for my Mancunian brain, sadly, Chris! I've got as far as SMA connectors for antennae but SMB is where my knowledge of the things stops. They're dire things, they really are. If the 'holy grail' Element Technica BNC box isn't present, those inch long cables I described that terminate in a female BNC are an absolute nightmare. Very fragile, and for reasons unknown decide to just give up and die whenever they feel like it - not neccesserily because they're strained, either. I hate them with a passion.

See you in December for your workshop, by the way. Looking forward to it!

Hi all !

Thanks for all those topics, I learn a lot reading you all. I am the operator of a new A2 and I am preparing a movie for television.

I am wondering if I can fly a Panasonic 2700/Pro 35/Ultra Prime and Titan+downconverter for director and also Aladin Focus and aperture device with an A2 with a G40 (I think not) or a 3A Gold arm ? I do have the arm post for 3A arm to A2 yoke.

Thanks for your answers,

Jérôme CARLES

I'm wondering if someone out there has come up with a clever solution, or perhaps I'm doing it wrong:

How do you flip the monitor for when flying in low mode with the camera upright? I haven't tried pulling the monitor rods out of the bracket, since they're held in place by the locking screw for when folding it up or travel. As of lately, I've removed the screws holding the monitor to the monitor bracket, rotated the monitor to be upright when sled is inverted, and screwed it back in.

Requires smaller allen key and too much time, in my opinion. Anyone come up with a simpler solution?
