Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted October 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 28, 2009 Jeff, et al-- I bought a set of the aluminum ET rods for my RED jobs this summer so I would be able to carry stuff and mount motors and not have to change out rods while converting to and from Steadicam mode. For my setup, I chose the 18" rods and found them to be long enough for any configuration we encountered and able to be minimalized when not needed at full extension. In the future, I would like a set of various sizes in carbon fiber just to save on overall load.

Do the carbon fiber rods flex too much? Definitely not the ones from RED then. They are steel, weigh a ton and for some reason the ones most people got with their cameras are about a mile long. IMHO the element technica ones are the way to go. They are chromed aluminum. Super light but are plenty stiff enough even for supporting zoom lenses, etc... They seem to be well made and wear resistant. That being said now that I have a lathe I think I am just going to turn some plain aluminum rods in various sizes. Not as pretty but the price is right. ~Jess

Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted August 17, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 17, 2010 There's a brand of 19mm carbon fiber rod with chamfered ends and a thicker schedule(or schedule). Super ridgid and no flex from motor torque. Has anyone seen this version before? Ramon www.ramonengle.com
