Premium Members markdeblok Posted September 21, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 21, 2004 I've been playing around with my ultra to get a decent power at the top stage for power hungry (HD) videocamera's and finally came up with this. I've mounted one Lithium Ion batt. (14.4 v 95 Watt) on the battery mount and connected this to the 28 v entrance, (these batteries are charged up to 16.2). now here is the miracle, I still get 13.2 from the converter, this I only use for transmitters etc. I made a cable from the top stage 28 v output, this output in this set up now gives me the direct voltage as supplied by the Lhitium Ion batt, : camera is happy and all acc. are happy, there is a danger in this setup; you can not use this cable when you use a 28 v battery; this will give a 28 v voltage to your 12 to 16 v videocamera. This set up saves weight; you bring the camera battery down to your sled and you can monitor the power via the camera, most camera's can give you on screen info. System works again on 1 battery making it easy to know when you need a fresh one. So far it works. Feel free to try this set up, do not blame me if anything goes wrong ! mark de blok
LeighWanstead
Hi mark, Can you give me a model no you mentioned about 28v battery? How much is the 28v battery? How heavy? Where is online website that I can buy this battery? TIA Leigh

Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted September 22, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2004 Yes, what Mark is explaining is that, although the Ultra is supposed/designed to work on its original 28 volt batteries, it still works fine when you put a battery like the one he describes (14,4 volts nominal) on that same power input/battery bracket. His warning is this: the moment you have mounted the 12 volt HD camera, DO NOT USE the original 28 volt battery anymore as it will fry the camera! I hope this makes it clear. LeighWanstead
Sorry, I am wrong. I use my JVC gy-dv5000 and my battery is 15v, so I can't understand 28v battery logic. Regards Leigh
