I just heard this moment that he passed away this morning. I hate to be the one to announce this, I only knew of him by reputation and feel very sorry for his families loss. Known him for many years and worked along side him several times. He was a pioneer in the Steadicam world, a great operator, and this is a great loss. He was immensely talented and totally fearless. It was an IMAX film, and Jeff must have been in his 50's. The sight of Jeff sprinting down the himalayan mountain side at an altitude of 10,000 ft carrying an IMAX camera will stay with me forever. My heartfelt condolences to his family. It's hard to believe it's true. Jeff and I had been friends and had worked together for almost 10 years. He was always full of spirit, energy and enthusiasm till the very end. I smile when I think of the many times Jeff would call me after a job and tell me with such vigor and joy how great the job was and how he maneuvered this incredible shot and everyone was thrilled. I could feel his smile and happiness through the phone's receiver and knew Jeff was so excited he had done another great job and was pleased with his own work. That made ME smile too. Jeff was one of my first clients when I was working at Smith, Gosnell, Nicholson. It was easy to like him with his hearty laugh and energy and his passion for life. That never changed. Jeff was one of the pioneers in this field and talked about projects he had worked on in the past and how the industry had changed. He had a keen wit and understanding of the business and so much more. He was also very concerned about the world and how IT was changing. We talked about that a number of times. He cared a great deal about humanity and the world we all lived in together. I will always feel proud to call Jeff my friend and client and I thank him for the years we had a chance to laugh, joke, work and negotiate together. He will always be missed not only by his family but by me and his fellow steadicam operators. He was very special and a wonderful man who I feel privileged to have known. God bless you Jeff. As mentioned in earlier posts, Jeff was a most unique and gifted individual. Relentlessly optimistic, and fearless in his passion for Steadicam. I will always remember Jeff as truly one of the most kind and generous people I have met in this business. Jeff saved my butt on several occasions, as I'm sure he did for many others. They guy who bungee jumped down the side of a cruise ship with the rig in in lo mode. The guy who ran up the Mayan pyramid pulled by a counterweight going down the other side. I'm broken hearted. Jeff I can proudly say was true friend. It is hard to be sad as when I think of him all I can see is his smile and hear his laff. Jeff and I have been friends for years, and this year we worked together on my stand at NAB and Cinegear. We had such a great time together, he was one of the most child like people I know. (as in young at heart and mind) And a wonderful friend. Always a sparkel in his eyes and a big grin. Jeff was a true poineer in every sense of the word..... Miss you mate! In retrospect , I realize that those two occasions made me contemplate my own mortality more than anything for a long time. I’ve known them and admired them both, for more than twenty years now, never thinking for a moment that we might not live forever… Rest In Peace Jeff.
