Just wanted to get some advice on building my first "bigger" rig

I know some people fly Artemis here in Germany and they say it compares to all the top line rigs on the market. Reason for them is that the maufacturer is based in Germany and also support is. Good reason I find.

Check for Markus Bernhard as well. I fly my second BaerBel sled and he has made numerous improvements on the sled that make it a good choice too. I guess Daniel Stilling will give you further info about it or just call Markus. Try used Masters for a good bang for the buck on used equipment.

The Red can be stripped down if the production provides you with the neccessary items. You will need downconversion HD-SDI to composite for most of the monitors. I attached a photo with my Red beeing almost too lite for my Masters arm. It sits on a BaerBel rig by the way.

Hi Jade!

I've taken a workshop in Germany wig Sachtler to get to know the Artemis System and I really liked the cine HD a lot. After taking another workshop with Tiffen close to your Hometown Atlanta I must say I tend to taking the Ultra 2 more than the Artemis HD. Both Systems are pretty much the same when it comes to payload of the arm or operating and some of the adjustment features if the Artemis are really great but for me although I am from Germany and could get much faster service for the Artemis, the Ultra 2 makes more sense when I comes to upgrading the system. Right know I can only afford the Ultra 2c version and will make upgrades like the motorized stage later on. The Artemis system is pretty much done the way it is exept for the fact that you have to buy an additional post for super high or lowmode. That possibility already comes with the ultra 2c. So for me it just makes more sense getting the Ultra 2c and having to send it to London for service is ok for me. I don't know if you have Sachtler service in the US but I remember Curt (the guy who designed the Artemis) saying something about that. The price is also pretty much the same for both systems since you have to add batteries and other accesories to both of them.

I hope I could help a bit. If you have further question just write me back.

Best

Markus

I know nothing about the Atemis sleds (I do love their tilting monitor bracket!) but as Eric said -- buy local. As far as the Artemis not being mentioned, I'm guessing few here in the US are familiar with it so it's not considered one of the "big three".

I'm sure you've read the other threads by now...customer service plays nearly as big a role as the gear itself!
