Single take steadicam feature to be shot on RED

As far as I know, the Red only recognizes Red batteries. You can easily have a life meter added to your rig or you can go by the bars on the battery itself.... Although, it doesn't really matter does it? If your doing a 'oner' you will either have enough juice or you will not?

Maybe a bit off topic, but IDX Elite batteries and an Element Technica IDX battery plate & cable will pass battery info to a RED. Just remember to set the Elite battery to SMBus data protocol.

And if you have an ET plate that has a "RED/IDX" switch on it and an older ET power cable, you're sure the IDX Elite is set correctly and you don't see percents...ignore the switch labels try the other setting.

I shouldn't be surprised any more by the lengths you guys are willing to go to in sharing your expertise, but this thread - regardless of what anyone thinks about the task in question - has been extraordinary. Cookies all round.

I tried enabling cookies in my browser, but still no luck. Shall I send you my postal address?

I still can't open the cookie package!

You can use other batteries than a RED Li-Ion.

In fact, Anton/Bauer makes a great handle replacement/battery mount/drive mount system that allows using your A/B products with lots of versatility and rigidity. See their website for details. I used one last summer on a feature and found it to be fantastic.

Hi Tanner

This is a fun read.... sorry to pick up so late you are probably in RuskaVille already where there are no completion bonds needed!!!! ehehhhhhh

I say get a Flyer le which will support 19lb forget the lens get a Birger n Canon EOS zoom like the 17/55 2.8 with the new Birger lens mount n zoom to save weight. If Eric isnt ready with the zoom yet, even a prototype?, then Bartech or the motor control which uses the I phone, for the zoom still only one motor. and you will have zoom/focus/iris. Power with 160WH Lithium Ion for the monitor n down converter Power the RED. on second 160 WH plus batt. They do make a few larger batts also? see China Batt makers. Use this batt if it tests out for 100 min run time which I doubt it will. If that won't last then with a cable looped down and going over to your back on a harness where the asst can hot swap the batts. In that case use the other batt spot to hang the mag on the bottom of the rig. 100 minutes of concentrated shooting is a very long time. We have shot some doco. on the flyer, being in rig all day, Even this light a rig will be a killer...but this will get it down where it is physically possible for a normal person . Remember you probably will need a number of takes to get this, so don't let yourself get used up on day 1.

*The I phone control is not ideal for zoom but the receiver is very small and light.

Eric at Birger Engineering has the EOS mount for lighter smaller Canon still lenses with wireless remote.

You will need a custom power cable with a hot swap box, a longer mag cable run down the front, and some bracket for batt mount to mag and for the

down converter power up the front from the batt tap out. Terry West could make you a nice set of cables?

will the RED even run that long while recording without over heating... cause you know the fan will be off for sound?!? If not then you gotta set the fan on continuos run as if shooting MOS and let your sound department know this so they are prepared to hear it. But with flying walls and all, they WILL be ADRing.

So you gotta figure out also the tempature threshold for 2hour of constant recording... as if you haven't heard this before... TEST, TEST and TEST again!

Yeah, over heating is definitely on my mind too. I've had those problems even on shorter takes around 10 minutes or so. But I don't know what the ambient temperature is going to be, that will play a factor. Anyways, as you said Alfeo, test test test. For sounds sake, I hope we can figure something out.
