Premium Members Nic Owens Posted January 29, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 29, 2010 Hey Everyone, I just bought my first rig, a master series, and I want to mount a cinemonitor 3 on it but it really throws the rig out of balance. My mate told me the way to fix the issue is to take the backing plate off one of the batteries, get a v-lock mount and join them together. That way lower weight v-lock batteries will balance the cine 3. Just wondering if anyone has experience of doing this themselves, and how they went about it (wiring, screws used, etc). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Nic
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted January 30, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 30, 2010 Hi Nic, You should not do as you were posted. It's simple; just replace the Master battery adapter with a V-mount or AB adapter. You might need to drill 4 holes to attach the new adapter. Wiring is also simple; red is + and black is -. 2nd option: Install a V-mount battery on your Cine3; power the monitor from that battery. Ken. Premium Members Nic Owens Posted January 30, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 30, 2010 Thanks so much Ken, that's genius! First thing monday morning I'm gonna get my hands on the V-lock and change the rig. Cheers, Nic.
Premium Members Ants Martin Vahur Posted March 12, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2011 Hi! I just settled in on this topic instead of starting a new one. Does anyone know if there is a possibility to get from somewhere a adaptor plate for Steadicam Master Series to mount V-lock batteries? I don't want to rebuild the base but be able to use my own Master batteries and in need swap to a V-lock (provided by production). I am on a feature film shoot in Finland, working with Arri Alexa in sub-zero conditions and I have 4 Master batteries (my own) and 6 onboard V-lock batteries (from the camera rental). Been using them both simultaneously when we have had loads of steadicam shots, but would like to send all the batteries to the base of my steadicam to get a bit weight off. Without the onboard battery on the camera (powered from steadicam) Alexa balances really nicely- with BFD, Modulus 3000, Cinetape, Decimator. Thanks and hope it was all clear.. :P Ants Martin from Estonia P.S. Love the Alexa's power system (and the camera altogether)- Can swap from onboard to steadicam power or to 24V block battery without swithcing off the camera. And even during between the takes we can put the onboard battery on the camera to save steadicam batteries.
Premium Members Nic Owens Posted March 12, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2011 Hi Ants, The way I did it was sacrificed one of my master series batteries by taking the mounting plate from it and screwing it together with an IDX v-lock plate and connecting the appropriate wires. It works really well, it just means you lose the use of one of your master batteries. Alternately, you could contact Tiffen and see if they'll sell you one of the master battery backing plates. Good luck with it! Nic
Premium Members Norbert von der Heidt Posted March 12, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2011 Hi Nic There's also one other option which I did for my Master. Get a dovetail plate from Tiffen and attach it to the V-Lock plate, then just join it to the front dovetail on the lower housing, there should be power connection points just above. Because it mounts a fair bit in front of the post axis, it's weight will help with the lightweight of the CinemonitorIII.
