Premium Members Michael Fuchs Posted February 20, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 20, 2010 I don't do much teleprompter work and have a 7 inch monitor and israeli arm ready for that when needed. But when talent needs to look directly into the lens, the prompter guy has to provide you with one of his--at least in this case. The amusing part was figuring out how to get a rod close enough to the focus ring. Not ideal but kind of funny. On the opposite side was a mafer clamped to the prompter gear with a 2 pound weight sandwiched in to help counter the focus setup. EX 3 with fujinon superwide zoom. Rig was obviously not in a very "sweet" ergonomic setup by any means and of course I was asked to walk super slow. eeehh :\
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 oh man! I feel for you...I'm glad I never have to fly "thru the glass" style prompters. My attitude is this: if Robert Starling can get away with a 7" LCD above the lens on Lopez Tonight, you client's can deal with it..

My attitude is this: if Robert Starling can get away with a 7" LCD above the lens on Lopez Tonight, you client's can deal with it.. Mike, I'm sure you meant Rob Vuona on Lopez Tonight, and yes Tore and I both use a 7" prompter on that show and pretty much all shows for that matter. Although there have been the odd times on a couple different shows where the director wants me closer to the talent at the wider end of the lens and the prompter on the top of the lens creates an eye line that is above the lens. For that there is an 8" through the glass prompter that I use it's light and mostly made of plastic and aluminum. Call "On Air Prompting" speak to Sharon . . . . (818) 406-2582 Otherwise, stick to the 7" above the lens, I fly mine almost touching the lens just above the iris ring. Good luck and just say NO to that ridiculous 12" concoction you where flying
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 Haha yes, the other Rob! I've designed a couple brackets to work off 60mm rods that will put my prompter panel right on top of the lens shade. We haven't gotten to test it in action yet.. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 What do you think about this guy Rob: http://www.autoscript.tv/product-MiniScript-1047 Golf Channel wants to get 2 of them for above and below the lens; 1 for PGM, 1 for Prompter. At 1lb each, I'm mildly impressed! Do you think it will be big enough? Keep in mind, it's impossible to get more than 20ft away from someone in our studio, although on occasion I'll come in thru set pieces with some wild moves.. Premium Members JobScholtze Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 Sorry to say, but that setup is just plain stupid. No way i would accept that. Overhere we have 2 compagnys that has a steadicam friendly setup. ( wich i helped making it ) Its a 7 inch lcd with a mirror. Very lightweigt. 99% of the time we feed the prompter with a transmitter. I just velcro a small reciever and were done. I get a great DB within 2 minuts. Its light, did i mention that. I have some detail pics if your intressed. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 I've been looking for a while for an off-the-shelf lightweight through-the-lens prompter that mounts off the Arri-style 60mm minirods rather than requiring a whole bracketing system. Has anyone seen one yet? Seems pretty obvious to me (rods are already oriented to the center of the lens, so no major adjustments should be necessary). Premium Members JobScholtze Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 Thats the one we use charles. It just slides up my 15mm rods. Its very easy. I'll try to dug up some pics for you. Anyway, Its thisUNIT wich we have modified with something like this. With some different sizes of rods and some space to go front/after on the rods, this works like a dream for me.( btw, we also have changed the lcd to a panasonic one, wich is a couple of lbs lighter. But the one advertised works great though. ) Best
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 thanks Job. That's the closest I've seen although it would be nice if it didn't require making a custom bracket and swapping out LCD displays etc...! what is the final weight for your system? We shaved of a couple of lbs, but not much. Its pretty light already. That custom bracket is just minuts work. Its just to make your live easyer. I build it under a minute. I think i am at 5.5lbs.
