Apologies if this has already been posted, but I searched and couldn't find it. Also this is a new YouTube posting as of yesterday.

Pretty sick (as in awesome) music video. As crew members and steadicam operators we can all appreciate the amount of time and energy that it would take to pull this off as well as they did.

Hopefully the operator is on this forum and will discuss the experience a bit, it would be fun to hear about.

Watch it full screen and around the 2:30 mark you can see the operator's reflection in the large silver ball. I am sure this was an intentional tip of the hat to a job well done from the band to the operator. Well done!

Enjoy,

Matt

Amazing video very well done. Having said that I doubt the reflection was a tip of the hat to the op. Just lucky for him. I find when it comes to design, people like shiny reflective things, much to my dismay when I'm trying to keep my reflection out.

Thanks for pointing this out, and kudos to the op.

AWESOME! Thanks Matt for posting.

Yup, Matt. I just saw this clip this morning, and logged on for the first time in a long while to see if I could find out who operated it. Kudos to all involved in that clip. It was unreal.

I was just sent this link with a great interview showing some behind the scenes footage, and info about how they did it.

Totally bitchin video! what a great concept. I wonder what camera they flew? Its refreshing to see a music video that has a great concept and not your average yo yo yo in da club played out crap. Done too many of those. This video reminds me of old MTV 80's stuff.

Behold, the award goes to Mic Waugh from Arizona. Dermott Downs shot it and I am waiting to find out what camera they used. Or maybe Mic will speak up. It may be the only thing you need on your reel my friend, well done.

Here's what WAS my favorite one-shot steadicam video of all time:

here's a quote from an interview about it today:

"We did actually shoot it in long, single takes. We only made it all the way through three times. But the truth is, one part, where we come down a waterfall, the action got a little behind, and three times, we actually got all the way through, the camera guy only got it once," Kulash explained. "So there is a bit of an edit in there. One edit. The machine did run all the way through each time, though, which is important."

Yeah Lucas... is a great video but I dont think its one take. I think there is a lot of edits. ?

I have the Gondry dvd where they show some BTS and talk about it. No edits.

FYI we can now embed videos in our messages, like that :

The code for it in the forum should be edited as it lacks the ability to go full screen, also to get a bigger display area in the message as it's really small right now, I can show how to Tim Tyler if he wants.

Hey guys glad you liked video. Sorry for jumping in late. Just returned from Nepal on gig for the last month (no steadi just operating...thank god!). I gaurantee I got it everytime. We shot over 3 days and had 1 16hr day that we actually got it the first time but the band was absolutely wiped off. They looked like they were about as thrilled as getting a root canal thru the whole thing. The second time we got it was one they used, not my best though due to damn machine. I almost got killed by Donkey Kong barrel after ping pong balls because of box being in barrel track (PA not quick enough to grab so he left it...thanks, I had to kick out of way.) Then by oil drum at end of shot that popped up different then the other 85 times we tried it. Just about took out my legs and I almost missed the end!!!!! Could you imagine missing the end after all that. The third time we got it the TV didn't blow and the bowling ball just missed it's target so Dan (band memeber) kicked the trigger for hammers and what not at the end. I'm actually emailing producer to see why I'm the fall guy:-( "Camera guy didn't get it"...come on man! Damian Kulsah is a great guy and creative genuis behind all you see here. We got it three times, band got it twice, machine got it twice but camera got it thirce baby!
