New Steadicam Monitor

Hi Chris,

If you're looking for suggestions regarding the digital level, an off-board sensor would be desirable. The Transvideo monitor has an internal level sensor and an optional external sensor module (I believe from looking at it online). This would make it more like the current digital levels we are all used to using - Marell, XCS, Pro etc.

Thanks for building a great steadicam monitor, I can't wait to get one!

There will be a level box which will mount to the sled, to read the level of the rig, and not just the monitor. It will also be capable of driving an led bar, for the off chance that you do not want to use it with the Cinetronic monitor.

Just a reminder to those who are coming by Cinegear today to see the monitor, Robert Starling has been gracious enough to show the monitor for us, but he is actually hired by Angenieux to show their lenses. Please try to be a little discreet when you see Robert. Ask to see the lenses, which are great by the way, and politely ask if you can see them in the sun etc. This will help us out, and keep Angenieux from getting upset that people just want to see the monitor.

Hey guys Please Please Please when seeing Robert at Angineux today use a little docorum, We don't want to cause trouble for Robert at the booth. Tomorrow at the Stabilizer Gear Expo we can geek out all we want with the monitors but use today as a "the free taste of crack the crack dealer gives you"

Thanks and see everyone at the show today and the expo tomorrow!

Hi!

I'll second Alec- internal recorder would become obsolete very quickly. Remember when they used to do small tube TV-s with built-in VHS players? Weren't very useful as I remember. Maybe the first month when you bought them.

Let me know when you have the thinner version of 7'' Cinemonitor. Beer truck version is a bit too wide- you would have to walk with x-legs so you wouldn't bump into a monitor with your knees.

I would rather have a cube shape monitor.

And numbers for horizon- I'm also against.

So line me up in the que!

So far with the old Master monitor- beats all the LCD- until now.. :)

Ant, it's not an internal recorder, it's a bracket for a Blackmagic.

The present size is not a problem and it's actually smaller than the 8" Tiffen LCD

Master monitor being the best? Not by a longshot, bit the Pro and especially the TB-6 kill the master's monitor

Eric, I said: "beats all the LCD-s.." ;)

I haven´t seen the TB6 with my own eyes, but from what I´ve heard, it must be a great monitor. I don´t have a doubt that it beats the Master monitor.

Bracket for the recorder is great!

And thank you for trying to "unpluralize" my name into an ant, even though it does actually end with an "s". So there´s many of me :)

We will have the monitor available at the Stabilizer Gear Expo for those who want to get a more hands on look at it.

See he really is the crack dealer, you got your free taste yesterday, now you're gonna go back for more and then you're gonna have to pay.

LOL!

Great to see everyone this weekend and thanks for coming by the booth to see the new lens and also all the compliments on my XCS and Chris's new monitor.

For those of you who missed seeing the 7" flying yesterday afternoon you should really get over to see it today at the Stabilizer Expo.

It was quite interesting overall to see how each person chose to view the monitor and funny how some people contorted themselves into and beyond the most unorthodox and extreme viewing positions torture testing the viewing angles; angles you'd never even come close to during operating. Even staff and engineers from Tiffen, Sachtler and Glidecam came by to check it out... more than once!

One thing I'd like to address is that people seem to get stuck on the current size of the housing which in fact is no wider than a matte box. Remember, this housing is an EARLY PROTOTYPE they have machined to get themselves through their fast paced design and beta testing phase. I tried to make this clear from the beginning but I guess it doesn't stick.

Chris is picking up their first batch of new electronics boards later this week that have been designed to the size of the screen itself which will allow a much more streamlined final housing. The fact is though that the current size makes for a great balanced rig and an easy dynamic balance. It's actually much smaller than the Tiffen UltraBrite they used on the Ultra 2 for many years.

The Cinetronics guys are selling the current monitors and using every penny of their sales to fund and continue development for the next generation. They will also offer an affordable upgrade if you purchase now and put your screen into the new housing with the new boards for a small upgrade fee and turn it around in one day.

To be clear, I'm still beta-testing the monitors for them and what I can tell you is that they take the comments and suggestion from the beta-testers and literally make those changes in a matter of days. Chris also takes time to come out to visit on-set so he sees first hand what we're seeing.

All I ask is that you at least give these guys a fair look and a fair chance. It's pretty clear that most people who see these monitors are buying them on the spot and some of the veteran ops are buying them sight unseen.

If they're this good now in the beta phase I can't wait to see the incremental upgrades as their product line develops.

I don't get anything out of this other than a better monitor in the end. Eric bought two and paid for them and when I do get my final version all I can hope is for a little discount. At $4800 there's not a lot of wiggle room for these guys until they get into larger scale production.

Chris did offer to buy me a beer last night but I wouldn't let him. I'm a whore but not when it comes to my gear! Enjoy your buzz and don't forget to put the cap back on the Lisigav!

Robert

Question...and I am drunk to take this with a grain of salt...but what do you and Eric get out of this besides a fabulous monitor?

Hi Jamie,

Got my Cinetronic 6.5" three weeks ago. Only used it for 3 days now, all interior. Will be using it 5 days a week for 5 months starting in July, so I will post more feedback by the end of July.

I'm on the East coast , if a trip to Canada does it for you, I'm in Montreal. . .

My feedaback for now:

The thing is built like a tank, as you would expect and more.

Soft touch buttons that you feel "clicking" are great and simple to use.

Menus are the same as they were on my Boland (same layout and graphics) so I am in known territory .

Only one power input, I chose the 8 pin PRO connector. So I can't use it on any other device than my PRO sled(why would I?) , or I could make an adaptor cable if I wanted to use it somewhere else ( a 4 pin XLR to 8 pin LEMO kinda cable)

The Cinetronic yoke is a must, would not even consider the monitor without it. It's part of the balance solution I have been looking for (lower CG) .

Image is great indoors (bright and crisp) can't wait to try it outside.

Housing gets hot but not anywhere near what I was expecting.

Ran almost 4 hours on a fully charged Dionic HC 90. (i did play a lot with every settings, more and less brightness, backlit, so maybe the optimum settings will last longer when I leave it as is)

I have one dead pixel . Apparently it's "within manufacturer specs to sometime have one dead pixel" so I'm stuck with it , mind you I can't see it when the image comes up, it gets lost in the picture but it's painful to see nobody saw that when building the screen , if another dead pixel comes up , Chris can do something about it but no warranty for one lousy dead pixel.

So there you go for my first impressions, there is no comparison for steadicam use with anything on the market right now (brightness, viewing angle, design, mounting options).

Chris and his team made their homework and it shows on every aspect.

No regrets for now. This is the ultimate monitor in 2011.

Will update with more feedback ASAP.

Fly safe,

Frederic
