Things have progressed slowly, as they always do. We have the software for the new controller pretty much finished. The framelines and bubble level are done, just tidying up some other features. The controller boards have arrived, and are having the components soldered. Hopefully if testing goes well, we will have the first prototypes in October. The new housing has been drawn up, and looks very good so far. We will have some more info for everyone soon.

Hi every one.

Thanks Chris and every one in the contribution of developing a tool so important for us.

About the digital level, will it have diferents styles?

Also a on screen battery level display would be great(battery icon), with the option to select the low battery voltage warning.

What about software upgrade? Could we send you back the unit in the future for adding new features?

Thanks.

Gorka

The new monitor has just one bubble level style for now, but you can change the size, placement and color of it. We will look into the battery level display. Since the monitor will take such a wide range of power, this may take some work. The new monitor will be software upgradable via USB.

Jens, in a nutshell, 4:3 is an obsolete aspect ration to me! I only want 16:9 in my life. That said, there are a lot of arguments for the 6.5" - when a level is available you'll be able to put it outside the picture area (assuming you have a 16:9 signal), but my TB-6 is 16:9 and I saw no reason to move away from that. Plus, I actually like the increased picture area of the 7" (and the housing is the same size).

AND to add to Alec's observations of 4:3 vs 16:9, when putting a 16:9 image into a 4:3 monitor, the 16:9 image becomes smaller to accommodate the narrower monitor size.

So unless 4:3 is the medium of choice in your neck of the woods, 16:9 seems to me to be the best way to use all of your monitor's screen size..

Just my 2¢.

Jamie,

I don't agree. On super35 hd cameras the 4:3 monitor is the preferred aspect ratio. The reason is when outputting the full frame you have the largest 16x9 image possible with your out of camera frame top and bottom overscan and camera data displayed. It also keeps the bubble level out of the camera frame. That's why I suggest that people doing shows with an Alexa or the forthcoming Sony F65 buy the 4:3 monitor
