Steadicam Zephyr

Does anybody have any idea at all about price and/or release date for the UK? I am about to buy either a Pilot / Flyer LE / Zephyr!

Hi Andrew

Release date for the Zephyr is likely to be quite some time (IBC??) and a price is yet to be fixed. It's probably a a good idea to call either James or myself (once I have ceased to be an airline refugee in California) at the Bicester number 0870 100 1220 to discuss camera compatibility etc.

Hi Robin,

I bet it is hard being stranded in California! B) B) I can think of worse places to be! I have a bit (well a lot) of a plumbing issue at the moment so I am waiting to see what happens with that before purchasing thousands of pounds of camera gear. With a bit of luck I will be able to ring James or yourself later this week or early next. I went on the recent 2 day workshop with James (which was excellent) and am looking forward to getting back in a rig again! :D :D

Andrew.

Yikes!! Sep?? That is a super long wait. I was hoping for Jun/Jul. Robin, any feel of the pricing? If its like USD10,000 I'll have to go for the Flyer L so I hope not to wait and get disappointed later on. Thanks.

If anyone still has questions about the Zephyr, I've had some opportunities to really play with it now, I might be able to give some useful info. I don't know how much it will cost, and I don't know when it is coming out. I have given a list of suggestions for the production version. It may be that not all of those suggestions are possible to do and keep the cost down. Only the easy ones I felt were absolutely necessary, the rest were just desires.

All in all, it's a great rig. More rigid top stage and bottom stage than a Flyer. Fore-Aft is adjustable without unlocking the dovetail. Plenty of power ports. Composite as well as HD-SDI through the sled. Pilot/Merlin weights can be used to help balance the light monitors. DB is a breeze, and you get to keep great pan inertia to boot. It has a dovetail on the bottom that can be used for resting the rig or attaching something.

Great improvement over the Flyer, depending on price I will probably highly recommend it.

This seems to be a small clip of the Tango in use by Jerry. But this time in combination with the new Zephyr Sled.

Funny aspect is that Jerry is using his U2 vest and a 'G' arm.. :

Cheers, Erik

Little monitor half way down the jib.....

The addition of that monitor is fantastic. Having operated the Tango briefly both with and without that monitor, I can vouch that it is a welcome addition. Because of the possible positions for the camera, the regular monitor is often not easily viewable. Having a 2nd monitor right down on the Tango, where you're looking often so as to avoid hitting anyone or anything anyway, really picks up the slack.

I know this is an old thread, but to anyone interested, in the past couple days, Tiffen (finally!) posted the Zephyr price list on their website.

I got to use one of the prototypes at a recent Steadicam workshop in Austin...I'm a noob, but I really liked this rig.

Finally

It is finally a reality.

Please more info, photos, videos, reviews the new system.

I want that platform

I like the price point... A little upset how I just picked up a flyer like 2 months ago because I figured it the zephyr would be priced over 10k... If the tango addon is under 3k I may have to sell the flyer.

Yeah, bummer, it happens. I received my 2nd Gen Flyer 2 months before the Flyer LE was released. Look at it the way I did, you got a good rig without having to wait 2 more months for the next thing!

Happy Flying!

Yea, to be honest it isn't that big of a deal. Doing my work with the flyer and love it. I am just very intrigued by tango.

I think the Tango add-on is a little more than $3000. Since in UK money a Zephyr setup (inc arm and vest) is around £7000 and a Tango/Zephyr combination is more like £16000. I make that a difference of £9000 or $13000 for the Tango and not $3000.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Just came back from the IBC. Spoke to the Tiffen guys, James mentioned: The Tango setup is about 12000 uk pounds. That's the Zephyr Sled + Tango. You still need a arm like the G40, 50 or 70! It seems that a combination with the Zephyr arm is not 'possible' ..

But also here 'correct me if iam wrong'
