G-Zoom

I have been working with Eric Anderson's G-Zoom for the last month now on a brand new Canon lens and it has performed flawlessly. Smooth zooming and focusing with the ability to adjust the zoom speed and focus tension on the unit itself. Its obvious that this was made by a fellow operator because a lot of thought has gone into it. Highly recommended.

Just thought I'd chime in here and second what Claus is saying about the G-Zoom. Really enjoying the unit and it performs very well. Love the cabling options to either use my BFD and M-One for focus or the option of plugging straight into a broadcast lens with an internal focus servo.

Anyone who isn't a huge fan of the Stanton zoom/focus (like me) I highly recommend the G-Zoom.

Also please note, Erik's customer service has been fantastic, which we all know is super important to us steadi freaks.

Cheers!

Bry

I have always been a fan of controllers that wrap around the gimbal. I recommended Erik's controller to Golf Channel for their new rig, and I would purchase it in a heartbeat for my personal rig. The zoom paddle has a good feel and operates very smoothly, no jerking at the start of a push or a pull. The focus wheel is conveniently under the gimbal where your index finger already sits, and also has some drag to it for a good feel. It's a direct interface with Canon's HDTV ENG lenses which have built in zoom AND focus servos, and it can always control your BFD if you encounter a Fuji or older Canon lens without the servo.

It's basically everything that I've wanted in a compact controller. Not to mention, Erik has must have a Blackberry tethered to his hip judging by the quick email responses (and signature tag).

Many Thanks to Claus, Bryan and Mike I really appreciate the kind words and always looking to make it better...the G-Zoom is always evolving.

Hi Erik,

I've heard very good things about your G-Zoom and have visited your web site a few times as well considering adding it as a backup, option or replacement to my Stanton. Two live ops I work and share jobs with own the G-Zoom have told me there are some durability challenges in their experience. "love it but..."

Without putting them or you on the spot too much can you tell me what if any problems/challenges you've had with regards to operation and/or the bracketry that attaches it to the gimbal? If so, what corrections / changes have you made?

Thanks!

Robert

Hello Robert

Thank you for your interest...well I am not so sure I follow on the points that you mention and i appreciate you not putting me on the spot...I have had some minor problems with the thumb springs a bad batch not being able to catch it until it went out into practical use but is/was corrected...on the gimbal clamp I had a batch of thin composite at the clamp point but is rectified. Thats about anything I can think of that I have had issues with...with anything you can only test so much until it goes out into the real world with all of the variables that you cant replicate on a workbench...I try and catch and fix things before they go out but some things do get through and I try and take care of it right away for the customer and I hope that I have. With any problem big or small that arises I determine the cause and make sure that it get fixed and the next unit that goes out has the update so it wont happen again. Its always evolving with every unit that goes out and i encourage the criticism it makes a better product.

Robert I hope I have answered your concerns if not you can absolutely contact me with any concerns you have at the number or e-mail below.

Thanks again

Erik Anderson

I'd also add that I've had one of Erik's G-Zooms for a while now and I echo the sentiments of the guys in this thread. Great piece of kit and outstanding customer service.

I did have one problem where my zoom rocker spring disintegrated. But Erik's communication was first rate, I sent it back and I had it back in the UK within around 10 days. Perfect!

Thanks Erik! I think those were the only two early comments I had heard about, bracket and thumb spring.

One last thing, what size gimbal handles does it fit or does it matter for your controller? I found that my Stanton clamp had to be widened out to fit my new rig.

I'll be in touch!

Thanks!

Robert
