I'm doing live events and would be transmitting for Record and IMAG. I haven't seen many discussions here on the forum regarding wireless.. please help! Thanks! It makes a fine confidence/video assist system, but its not really robust enough for live imag and recording at any broadcast level. They simply don't have the range for that application except maybe in a very small close range environment. Your likely going to need to get into the range of COFDM systems for that. Hmmm... i understand however that the IDX Camwave 5HD can also multi-cast to more than 1 receiver... so perhaps for a live event you can position 1 HD-SDI receiver up in the lighting rig, another 1 back at FOH, and a third receiver halfway down or something. That way its always withing range of a receiver. I believe its range is about 150'. I'll have to find out which supplier has these here in Toronto, Canada so i can get it brought into the shop for some testing. It is reliable and I've not needed multiple RX units yet. Don't forget on 9 out of 10 instances the vision control will be behind the stage / screen, so your RX won't be far away most of the event... Also you will need power options for your Flyer LE unless you're going to power TX off the camera. I've got an LE as a running rig and I am having mine adapted with a power breakout box. It gives a good bit about successful field experience with the Transvideo unit. It costs more than the Camwave but it looks like the signal is consistently better for live work. For the last few years I've had the meridian. before that I had the Modolus 3000, a system from Marell.. and right now im on a production where the Camewave has been "forced" upon me... Camewave is a good system, not a lot of break-up, good distance... but still, the Meridian is just better.. less break up and even better distance. More than that, my DP is extremely happy with it as well. I, like most of us, am always searching for the best wireless image I can get. The Meridian is really the only viable option we have. I've seen some good results from Hamlet's unit (HP Video) which was posted on the forum but haven't tested it myself. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted January 17, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2012 We had the Boxx (with outboard patch antenna setup) on Steadicam for a recent 5 camera shoot. The camera was roaming around the house, all over a 400 seat theater. We weren't recording off the unit, it was iso on each camera, but for viewing purposes the image was flawless. At one point I leaned over to the engineer and reminded him that camera 5 was wireless. "Holy s**t, I totally forgot" was his response. 'Nuff said.
