Preston battery question

I have 2 bad HU2 batteries. 1 has broken ears ($100 fix & 3 weeks from Preston), and 1 needs to be recelled ($125 from Preston). I'm considering switching to the Sony M style batteries instead of being subject to $450 for replacements batteries, or above stated repair costs. The price isn't bad, but the turnaround is the problem.

I know Cramped Attic has a mount for the M Style batteries. A couple of questions:

1) Does anyone who has Cramped Attic's mod have feedback about running time, mounting slickness, etc...

2) Are there any other options other than Cramped Attic?

Thanks,

Mark

I got this one:

I thought it was the one from David at cramped attic but is a different company. It works very well, as does the one made by David Hable (I think his was first?) -- as far as triggering the low voltage light...I am not sure that actually ever worked. No biggie though, the Sony batts have meters on them and they last forever. The adapter, two batteries and a little charger was about $400. A pretty good deal me thinks.

Mark;

1) Is there no one you can "borrow" a battery from for a week or two while yours are recelled/fixed? Someone out there has got to have a couple they could loan you.

2) Batteries plus, the local batteries place is worth a shot. They recelled my Preston battery pack very quickly and cheaper than Preston a while back. (Mine were the older system but maybe they can help you. Worth a google search and an ask.)

3) Cramped attic mod is good, but like you said its the time frame.

If I had one you could use it, sorry.

Someone pony up a battery for him.

Good luck.

Gents--

I built up my own from the Cramped Attic part, and some pieces cut from an old PCS battery case, about a year before the Omnishot made it to market. Very pleased all around. Fully charged Sony M series batteries last around 8 to 10 hours depending on how the ACs run the PCS handunit.

Thanks for the info. Geez, if I just looked to the right of my screen, the answer was right in front of me. I am ordering the Omnishot today. I like Cramped Attics gear, but Omnishot doesn't require any special mount. Plus it looks cool, which is important to some (like me).

Best,

Mark
