Rich, my guess would be the additional wires are for battery data - remaining life, current draw, etc. Just a guess though.

Jhon, it's a fairly easy task - switching the type of battery. The most difficult part will be the mounting of the battery itself. You'll need to modify the current bracket, or make a new one entirely that will now support the Gold mount. Even that is a relatively simple task. Any machine shop should be able to help you out and it shouldn't cost very much.

The wiring is fairly simple. If it's anything like my old Master Series, and anything like the other Master Series sleds I've seen, there will be two wires coming out of the sled, connecting to the battery plate. One is red, the other is either white or black. The red one will be + and the white/black one will be -. If you buy a Gold Mount plate from a camera shop, it should also have two wires coming out of it: red and black. Red is +, black is -. Connect (solder is best) red to red and black to black (or white). That's it.

I should disclaim, if you're really uncomfortable with wiring, maybe find someone near you to help. Someone at a local camera house, or fellow camera operator, or camera assistant. Someone will know. Also, not knowing your sled specifically, if it has been modified in the past by anybody, the colors I mentioned above could be different.

Good luck!
